“You can do it. I know you can.” This was my first time in heels in six months. I was still shaky, even with Riley holding my hand. I slid forward and didn’t trip. “See! You will be able to do this by the shoot. It won’t be a problem.” Alice said. “Yes it will.” I got off the heels and sat down. I looked at the small but still noticeable scar. “If you still keep putting that cream on the scar it will go away.” Alice said critical. Recently, to earn a little money I had been doing some acting in small indie films. It was working, slowly but surely. “I still can’t believe I am sending in University Applications soon.” I sighed. “We aren’t, well the majority of us aren’t.” She smiled. Carlisle was going to allow her to apply to OCAD for design, her designs were being noticed and people wanted them. “I already have your outfits picked out and everything.” She sped upstairs and down in a flash. Everything was spread out in front of me. There was a pair of Gucci heels, black pleated dress pants. A grey tank top with a little bit of style and then a frilled sweater. “You are going to be so beautiful.” I looked at myself and then at Riley. “Please come with me.” Of course.” He picked me up and spun me again. “Easy with the shoes.” Alice warned. He took me by the waist. “I hope you don’t mind me stealing my girlfriend.” He said to her. “No, you have a good afternoon. Sleep for the next week.”
My week went by slowly, painfully. Something just didn’t seem right. Alice was stressed, Emmett had gone to Jasper National Park and Carlisle was working more. I sat on the floor and stared out the window at the snow. I hadn’t seen Dallas in six months, he was still on tour and it was getting hard. I stared at my arms. They were clean and I really didn’t want to mess this up. I wanted Riley or somebody to show up soon. I was alone again and no longer liked it. I started to sing to myself. “In better days I’ve been known to listen. I go to waste all my time is missing. I’m mapping out my ending, its never going to happen now. Life is always condescending, with everyone backing down. You pray to stars that help you get by and all at once you forget to try. I’d go there if you let me, they’re never gonna find me now. My life is always empty, and in and out of town, your not coming back for me. Its if we’ll never be. Im so used to being wrong so put me where I belong, where I belong. I get back to you, God Knows I try but I still lose. And I get back to you, these days run by. But I still lose. Angels say they can make you suffer, give and take like a vicious lover. When all this loses meaning, you’ll never want it back somehow. Awake but still I’m dreaming and never waking up. You’re not coming back for me, these things they will never be. I’m so used to being wrong so put me where I belong, belong. I get back to you, God know I try but I still lose and I’ll get back to you as these days run by. I still lose, lose. Alone, Where I’m not alone.” I smiled a little. “Well someone has a beautiful voice and a good choice of music.” It was Leah. “Thanks. You never come here. Missing Dallas?” Leah nodded. “We both are.” I said solemn. “He’ll be home in seven days. Home for your birthday. Then he is gone again.” I looked at Leah. “I wish he was home longer.” I sighed. “You and me both. Do you know how hard it is to go without someone sleeping with you for months on end? Not having someone there to comfort you after you have a nightmare.” She sat down beside me. “Kind of, though the situations are different.” I looked at her face, it had changed since I last saw her. She looked older. “Have you ever heard the song The Scientist by Coldplay?” Leah shook her head. “Well, it’s a beautiful song. We could go to the Cullen’s so I could play it for you. It will probably make you fall asleep.” Her eyes lit up at the thought of someone playing for her. She had been a b*tch to me ever since I met her husband but I didn’t want to see her like this. She deserved to be happy. I would find a way to make amends with her and this might just be it. “Wanna take the Mini?” “Sure.” I helped her up off the floor.
We drove to the Cullen’s empty house. They were hunting and allowed me to go there whenever I liked. I grabbed the set of the keys out of the artificial plant. I unlocked the door. “They allow you in here?” I turned around and looked at her. “I haven’t burnt the place down yet, have I?” I continued my journey to the living room and sat down on the bench. “Come sit down.” I signalled her to come and sit. She sat on the floor. “You can sit on the bench.” She refused. I pulled her up to sit with me. I began to play for her, my fingers gently glided across the keys. I put her hands under mine. “You’re going to play.” She may be older then I but sometimes I felt like it was the opposite. Her fingers pressed on the keys as I led her. She seemed happy yet upset. I finished and took her hands off the keys and placed them on her lap. I smiled at her and she smiled back. I was lucky she hadn’t reached for my throat yet. Only Dallas had done something like that with her. It was risky, like playing with fire. I didn’t get burnt. I rarely ever did. It hurt sometimes but was worth it. This was one of those times. Did she want me to play more? If she did, I would do it. “Can you? Can you?” “Play more? Sure.”
I ran up to my semi permanent home, the guest room. I began to search for my guitar to play. It was lying on my bed. A note lay on my guitar. “I was figuring you were going to need it for Leah, so I dug it out for you. C.” He wiped the dust off of it and everything. “Thanks Carlisle.” I looked up at the ceiling. I carried the guitar downstairs. I considered bringing up the fact that it was Dallas’ but didn’t. I began to play Cemeteries of London for her. I just hummed the lyrics. “Sing.” She said. I sang for her. I finished. “You do have a good voice. He didn’t lie to me.” My iPod went off in my pocket. It was him oddly enough. “It’s him.” I commented while shrugging my shoulders. I answered. “Hey you.” He said to me. He looked surprised. “I called you like a million times on your cell.” I pulled my cell out. “It was only three times Dal.” I placed it on the Piano. “I was playing for someone.” I showed him a small smile. “Well then I guess it’s acceptable.” He joked. “In fact I believe that the special someone wants to talk to you.” I gave Leah a look to ask her. She nodded and a smile grew on her face. “Well here she is.” I handed the iPod to her. I touched her shoulder gently and left the room. I heard her begin to laugh, she was better. “Thank you God.” I said.
I sat on the counter in the kitchen and waited for Leah to finish talking to Dallas. I hoped that the Cullen’s would return to the house soon. I considered leaving but I didn’t want to risk Leah going through my stuff, though I really didn’t have anything to hide. She was finished and came into the kitchen. She was crying. “He said he would be here for your birthday but would go back touring the next day. I tried to convince him to stay longer but he said no. I’m sorry.” She started to walk away. “Leah!” I partially yelled. “He may not be here for long but at least he’s coming.” “He’s coming for you, not for me. I don’t think you get that. He wants to record a few songs with you and I told him no. That’s why he wanted to stay longer.” She walked onto the porch. I called him back. “I’ll record,” I said to him. “Just so you will stay longer. Leah wants to be with you.” His eyes popped out of his head. “Well that was quick.” ‘I want to see her happy again.” I returned the look. “Alright kid, see you soon.” “Ya, see you soon.” Now it was nothing but a waiting game to see if he actually stayed true to his word.
