OK, so this is the new lovely. Its a lot of dialouge so be warned. I have two possible titles. Broken or Torn. Nicole has said Broken (thanks for the first opinion girly, appreciated it!) but I want to hear from others too :) Let me know below.
Don’t aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.-David Frost
I looked over at Riley and smiled. We were almost there. Then, traffic. Riley hit his head against the head rest. I rubbed his shoulders. “Soon love, it’s the DVP, we were bound to hit this sooner or later.” It looked like we were going to be here for about half an hour, traffic was at a stand still. “I really regret driving now. I wish we took everything up last week with our parents.” He was right, I was partially regretting not bringing all of my clothing up last week but I didn’t know if I would be alone. I would be finding that out today. I heard my phone ring, it was my Mom. I picked up. “Hey, where are you guys?” She asked. “Stuck on the DVP, where else do you think we would be at rush hour?” I heard Dan laugh in the background, “Now that we are on that topic, where are you?” “We’re sitting at the Second Cup in the Student Centre. It’s lovely!” The last thing she said was in a high British accent. “Has our son suffered from road rage yet?” Deb inquired from a distance. “Surprisingly no. Me however, yes.” I heard her mumble something to Dan but I couldn’t understand it. “Look, we’ll see you in two hours, love you two.” I growled into the phone but she hung up. “Mom?” I growled yet again. “Jeez, maybe you did need that coffee or more sleep.” I looked at the sign coming up. “Let’s get off of this thing before I shoot someone…”
He looked at me, merged into the right lane and cut off at Front Street. “Is this better?” He asked. “Yes.” I sighed. He turned on the Sync system. “Find directions to Trinity College.” He commanded. “Getting directions to Trinity College, Toronto Ontario.” The directions popped up on the screen. “Select route.” “Route A.” ‘Selecting Route A.” We followed the directions up University and passed Osgoode. “One day.” I sighed. We pulled up to the front of Trinity. It was overwhelming. This was officially my home for the next four years of my life. I began to get out of the car but my feet seemed to not be at all co-ordinated with my head. I tripped on the curb, fell flat on my face and felt completely humiliated. My pride went from my normal, low level to nothing. Someone was standing over me with their hand out to me. I looked up. I saw this girl with dark, almost russet colour skin and black hair and these green eyes that were unmistakeable. “Come on I don’t bite.” I took her hand and she pulled me up. “I’m Veronica but most of my friends call me Ronnie. I just moved here from Puerto Rico and I have absolutely no idea about how to get around here.” Her voice was peppy and sweet. “Well where are you going? That is my first question.” Riley started to unpack the boxes from the back of the car. “Um, love, I need a little help here.” I called his Dad.
“Hey, so we’re here. Just wanted to let you know. Bye.” I hung up. I realized that Ronnie was still standing there. “I’m going to St. Hilda’s College.” She was going to St. Hilda’s, I was in Trinity. This was a good step. I actually knew someone here besides my boyfriend. “Babe, aren’t you going to introduce me to your new friend here?” I took her by the wrists and dragged her over. “Riley this is Veronica but you can call her Riley.” He was for once cordial. He shook her hand, said hello and gave her his cell number. He even turned the charm on and kissed her hand. She blushed. I saw my Mom and Riley’s parents coming up the way. “Are those your parents?” She asked. “Ya.” She looked like she had nothing. It seemed like her parents sent her here with just the clothes on her back. “So, did you both survive driving to Toronto?” Dan joked. “Yes we did but barely made it. Sarah was going nuts near the end.” Riley commented. “Who’s stuff are you unloading?” Deb looked over at her son. “Mainly Sarah’s right now.” I smiled and showed my teeth. Deb placed her hand on my shoulder. That meant help him. Ronnie stood there helpless watching our families. I unloaded a few of his things and placed them on the ground. “Oh! Mom, I want you to meet Ronnie, she just moved her from Puerto Rico.” My Mom gave her a warm welcome as did Deb and Dan. They seemed overwhelmingly happy. Perhaps it was because they were getting rid of their third and final son. I then realized that Deb was holding onto Ronnie, hugging her. She was smiling. She then nodded and said sure. Riley dropped the boxes. “That’s the last of it.” He was sweating profusely. “Not like anyone cares.” He continued.
“So what’s up?” “Well, Ronnie doesn’t really have a place to go during the holidays so she will come to Alberta with us.” Great, I’ve officially made Deb like another female. Dan and Deb came with us to the Porters desk to sign in. The woman who was in her mid to late sixties looked up at us. “Can I help you?” She pushed her glasses to the tip of her nose. “Yes, we’re first years here to pick up her keys. We’re staying here at Trinity.” Riley told the woman. “What are your names?” “Riley O’Hara and Sarah Potts.” She turned on her computer. “Ah, the Blue Bears. Welcome.” “These are your keys. Sarah you are on your own and Riley you are rooming with Michael Meehan.” “Damn.” Riley said under his breath. “What did you say, Mr. O’Hara?” Riley was already off on a bad foot. This could be a bad four years of his life. “Nothing, Ma’am.” Ronnie slowly came in with my mom. I was happy to see my parents and Riley’s had already taken a liking to her. She had come here with nothing but at least she would have something. That something would be love. I was handed my room keys and we began to transfer things slowly but surely upstairs. The stairs were steep and crowded with new people. They, like us were new to this. Many clung onto their parents to ensure they wouldn’t become lost. I held onto Riley. We stopped at my room first. My Academic Don was waiting for me already. “You’re late.” She scolded. “We got stuck on the DVP. I can’t help that there was a car crash.” She looked away from me and went into her room down the hall. I really don’t think we will get along well. This might be a long year for me too. I looked at the time. It was only noon. That isn’t that bad, is it? I was already having trouble with my lock. This can’t be good. “Here, let me help.” Someone said. I looked beside me to see a girl a girl who had caramel colour hair with these deep green eyes. “These locks are so tough. It literally took my Dad half an hour to get mine.” I laughed. “I’m Madeleine by the way.” “Well what a pleasure to meet you.” She got the lock in a matter of seconds. “If you need me I will be next door.” I heard something crash next door. It sounded like a glass bowl. I walked into my room alone. Riley must have gone upstairs already. I was one of the lucky ones. I got a fireplace and a bay window. I won’t freeze this winter. I will fry in the summer however.
I tried the light switch. The light bulb fried. I started a list of things I needed. First things first, I needed to find a Home Depot or Canadian Tire. I pulled out my phone. Riley had texted. “Ronnie is up here with me. Come and see my place of living.” I bolted upstairs to his room. He was lying down on the bed. “Get up you lazy lump.” I joked. I noticed that he had another bed in his room. “You have a roommate?” I asked. “Ya, his name is Marcus. He brought his Xbox with him.” He smiled and let out an evil laugh. “ Just so you know, Ronnie likes Xbox too.” Great I am now surrounded by gamers. “Sorry.” Ronnie said. I left the room and transported all my items into my room. Frosh week events didn’t start until tomorrow. There was some method to my madness. My Mom and Deb helped me. After they were done I was left to my own devices. At this time Alice would be getting her room ready at OCAD and Colleen would be on her way to Thunder Bay. I made my bed and attempted to start a fire. I didn’t do too badly. There was a slight rap on my door. It was Madeleine. “Sar, do you know anything about medical procedures?” I lent against the door jam. “Ya, why?” “Ok, good. My sister and I kind of need you right now.” She dragged me into her room and I saw the bloody mess of glass strewn all over the floor.
