Everyone’s eyes were on the front door. If we had beating hearts, they would all be pounding through our chest by now. I could hear Renesmee calm beating heart. I could hear Jake’s heartbeat racing and I could hear the blood rushing through his veins. Jake was now in front of me and shaking. He was getting ready to phase any second. Edward looked at him and screeched, “Jake no we don’t know why she is here.” The car was in front of the house and in less then a second there was a knock on the door. We all heard Jane calmly state, “Tanya why knock they know we are here.” Carlisle fluttered to the door. I hadn’t even noticed that Jake was pushing me slowly into the other room. I was almost at the back door. I could see my shield stretch further and further around all of my family. This had become second nature to me. I had been practicing with my shield in the months after the Volturi had come to take our lives. Edward insisted that I was worrying to much and the threat was over, but now I knew I was right to improve my abilities. I had also been learning to fight from Emmett. As Carlisle opened the door, there was a brisk wind and before I knew it there stood Tanya, Kate, Jane, and a vampire I have never seen before.

Renesmee slumbered peacefully in my arms. It always amazed me how well she could sleep through impending danger. Everyone’s senses were on alert and I noticed Rosalie and Alice were now beside Jake.
“Hello Cu-ll-ens,” Jane spoke softly. Her voice sent shivers up and down my spine, for the first time in a long time, I felt chilled. Tanya did not look up nor did Kate. The vampire at Jane’s side was tall and lean. He had long dark hair pulled back into a slick ponytail and had an olive complexion. His eyes were crimson red.
“Allow me to introduce the newest member of the Volturi guard, Giovanni,” she spoke with such confidence. Giovanni spoke in a musical tone, “Hell-oo.”
“Giovanni is a shield also, but he also has the ability to make your head rupture when he sings!” Jane said this with such pleasure, you could hear her grinning as she spoke.
“I am sure you are wondering why we are here Cu-ll-ens? What is wrong dear Edward can’t you read my thoughts?” She hysterically laughed. All I could think was thank God breathing was not a necessity for vampires, because I would not be able to right now. Jake arms were shaking and his body was trembling. We all hung on Jane words not to sure if our demise was around the corner. I knew that is what everyone was thinking. Jane could hear my hiss creep up my throat and exit my lips.

Chapter 2

Still Bella POV

“My dear Bella, are you hiding back there? Are you not happy to see an old friend?” Jane asked me in whimsical voice. I gave Renesmee to Jake, thinking maybe this would help calm him. I stepped in front of Jake with Alice and Rosalie by my side. I noticed Jasper was intently using his mood control.
“ Ahh, Jane is that what we are, old friends? I don’t recall having friends that tried to kill my family, but perhaps I could be wrong.” I sarcastically replied. Irritated with my remark her eyebrows turned down to gaze at me.
“Well Bella, I wouldn’t think of us as enemies, since I make sure my enemies do not survive.” she stated in a matter-of-fact tone.
Edward was now the one hissing and in a second was by my side. The only thing I could hope for was that my shield could block Giovanni’s amazing singing abilities.
Edward looked back at me, now that he could hear my thoughts.
“Let’s hope we do not have to find out!” he whispered. I cringed.
“So to what do we owe this most humble honor?” Carlisle said in a calm manner. I always wondered how Carlisle managed to stay so calm in the event of life-threatening danger. He truly was the rock in our unique family. I always just told myself it was because he was a doctor and he was use to calm when everyone else was chaotic.
“Aro has sent us,” Jane said smiling. “He has requested that you all at once, including the Denali’s, return to Volterra with me.” She spoke in such a smug tone. “If you refuse, Giovanni and I will be forced to make you.” she said. “ Don’t be afraid as much I would love to test Giovanni’s ability on the Cu-ll-ens, I am here to guarantee your safety.” she said with disapproval.

Edward’s POV

All I could think is why does Aro want us in Volterra. Why would he send just Jane and Giovanni, knowing that Bella’s shield would protect us, unless he knew it couldn’t. I didn’t want Bella to worry. I could hear her thinking up the exact question I was wondering.
“I don’t think that is possible,” I whispered to her. Bella replied in her head ‘how can you be sure that they do not already know that my shield will not work against him? This thing doesn’t exactly have scientific logic to it!’
“I just don’t think it is possible, I think that is exactly what they would like us to believe.” I murmured in a hushed tone. Bella was now thinking ‘I hope you are right.’ To be honest, I hoped I was right too. Carlisle continued to study Jane’s expression before he spoke next. All Jake could think was 'I can phase and maybe kill Giovanni before one note comes out the filthy bloodsucker’s lips.' I shook my head no.
I was attentively listening to Tanya’s and Kate’s thoughts. Tanya just kept repeating in her head ‘I am not sure why they are here Edward, I am sorry.’ She gazed up at me with apologetic eyes. I nodded towards her to let her know that it must have been difficult for her to do this.

Chapter 2 cont.

Still Edward’s POV

I could hear Kate intensely speaking to herself, ‘What have we done? Why would we involve our beloved cousins ?’ Then I could hear her screaming in her head, ‘SORRY SORRY SORRY!’ My stare shifted to Carlisle as I could hear what question he was going to ask next. It was a question that we all wanted to ask.
“Why do they request our presence? What does Aro want, Jane?” Carlisle asked in a firm tone.
“I am not at liberty to discuss such matters. All I can tell you is that I am sure you do not want us to force you to come or a return trip from us all.” Jane stated with vengeance.
“And you guarantee my family safe passage to Volterra, but what about once we get to Volterra, Jane?” Carlisle almost sounded demanding.
“I am sure by now you are all wondering why I didn’t bring Felix or any of the other guard with me.” She stated this as she looked around to all of our bewildered stares. I was wondering why they would just send Jane and Giovanni. They knew Bella was a shield and could protect us. Curious now, I stared so eagerly at her. I could hear Alice say over and over again ‘Why didn’t I see this coming and why can’t I see any further then the present.’
“Edward dear,” Jane grinned from ear to ear. “Do you think that Bella’s shield could protect you all from Giovanni great abilities?” She arrogantly asked.
“I believe in my wife’s gift, Jane,” I answered back proudly. “I do not know the extent of Giovanni’s capabilities nor would I like to put my family at risk to find out.” I sarcastically replied.
“Well let me assure you that Giovanni’s singing could penetrate your lovely wife’s shield,” Jane stated assured of herself. “As a matter-of-fact, that is why he is Aro new shield.” sounding pleased with herself, she went on. “Poor Renata was no match for Giovanni’s ability, plus as an added bonus, Giovanni can protect Aro from afar.” She declared. There was no way, a shield that could protect from across continents. I will give it to Bella, there was no scientific logic to this! Carlisle and I had been researching special abilities, especially Bella’s. We wanted to see how rare it was in our world that someone like Bella came along. It made me think back to a story that the Amazons had told us about a young vampire with a powerful shield, more powerful than Bella’s. I realized the story was about Giovanni, but NO it couldn’t be! Nobody knew what happen to that vampire, it was just a legend, and the Amazons assured me. But from the looks of it, that vampire was standing right in front of me, now on the side of the Volturi, and possibly the destroyer of my family.

Alice’s POV

MY head felt like it was spinning. I could not see the future events to come. I do not know what was blocking me. I had gotten use to having to see around Renesmee and Jake, but this was different. I wonder if Giovanni’s ability also blocked me from seeing the future.
That would make sense.
“Renata is no longer Aro’s shield?” Carlisle asked. The look on his face was petrifying.
I wondered what he was thinking, maybe the same thing I was. They used poor Chelsea as an experiment to see how strong Giovanni’s abilities were.
“Renata is no longer!” Jane stated. She was always so sure of herself. Smug little brat.

Jacob’s POV

I could hear Leah and Seth outside keeping watch. By now I am sure one of them went to go get Sam and the rest of the pack. I wanted to phase and kill this damn leech right now, but leave it to Edward to spoil the fun for me. And if he thinks he is going to take Renesmee to Italy without me, he is sadly mistaken. Edward looked back at me and gave me a look that I understood. Always in everyone’s head, he was telling me he wouldn’t leave me behind.
“I see you are still associated with the mongrels,” Jane replied.
“What’s it to you, LEECH?” I snapped back.
“I am better company then the present company!” I laughed. Jane narrowed her eyes at me.
“Well why are you still here if we are no longer a threat? What connection do you have to the child?” Jane asked.
“We are very thankful to Jake and his pack for the help they gave to us with Victoria and the newborns.” Carlisle replied very calmly. “His pack and he are family to us.” Carlisle followed up.
“Oh so you like the stench of that mutt,” Jane laughed. “But that is not what I am inquiring about, Carlisle.” Jane replied. “He has a clear distinction for the child, a love for her.” Jane stated. I wondered are they here because they know that I imprinted on Renesmee. Maybe they have some sick law that makes it impossible for me to be with her in the future. What else would be new! These damn leeches and their laws. Why would anyone want to be a leech when it was so hard to exist as one. Edward must have been thinking the exact same thing, because he gave me a look like do not tell them about the imprinting.
"I just feel protective of her because Bella is my best friend.” I stated.
“No, we think it is more, but no need we will sort it out in Italy without you.” Jane bluntly stated.
“If you think for one second that the Cullen’s are going anywhere without me, you are mistaken BLOODSUCKER.” I aggressively stated. As her eyes focused on just me, I could feel myself trying to hold back from phasing. I wanted to rip both of them to pieces. I tore my stare from her and focused on the other leech. He just stood casually like he was among old friends. I could hear the howling of Sam and the rest of the pack coming through the woods.
“Jake go outside and talk to them, tell them to stay back for right now.” Edward said to me in a desperate plea. If Edward was nervous, should I be? He shook his head yes towards me.

Chapter 3

Jacob’s POV

Handing Nessie to Bella, I ran out the back door to go talk to Sam and the rest of the pack. Nervously, I stared back at the Cullen’s as I ran out. I ran into the woods to phase. I didn’t want to talk to Sam in human form. I knew that Edward could still hear everything I said, but Jane couldn’t.
“What is going on Jake?” Seth screamed in my head.
“Cool it kid and I will tell you everything that I know!” I replied.
“Sorry Jake!” Seth answered back.
“As soon as I saw them pull up I went to get Sam and the rest of the pack.” Leah stated. Sometimes it amazed me how in sync we were .
“Good job, Thanks.” I said appreciatively. I was worried and I ran through everything that happened so Sam, Leah, and Seth could see it.
“You don’t think they are here because you imprinted on Nessie, do you Jake?” Sam asked.
“I am not sure why they are here, although that thought did cross my mind. These bloodsuckers are not like the Cullen’s at all.” I stated. The Cullen’s were so predictable, but maybe that was because I was so connected to them. It was a little disturbing how well Edward’s and my thoughts were the same. The air was cold as it whipped past my face. I was almost at the edge of the woods to meet Sam. I could see Sam showing me what Paul had said.
“That’s what you get for hanging out with leeches Jake.” he laughed.
“So are we suppose to stand by and not do anything Jake?” Leah asked. I was just as upset by that notion as she was, but I was not willing to risk the Cullen’s, especially Nessie.
“For right now, I ask that you and the rest of the pack stay close to the house.” I begged Sam as I approached him.
“I really need to get back there. This is killing me that I am away from them.” I said.
“Go Jake, we will be right behind you.” Sam replied. “We will stay on the edge of the Cullen’s property.” He added.
“Thank you Sam.” I said solemnly. “Seth and Leah, I want you close to the house.” I told them.
“Okay boss.” Seth said. I wished he would stop calling me boss.
“Sorry.” he said. I raced back to the house, even Leah was too slow to keep up with me at this point. I phased back as I got to the river right behind the Cullen’s house. I could see everyone was in their exact spots as when I left. I raced in through the back door.
“So mutt, did you tell your pack to stay back?” Jane asked me. I wanted to rip that condescending smile from her cold, pale face.
“It is none of your business what I tell my pack leech.” I replied.
“Maybe you better rethink that last comment before you find out what is my business! Never the less, Cu-ll-ens you have three hours to pack.” Jane stated as if she knew they were already going with her. What did I miss while I was gone, Edward?
“ I will tell you later, but we have to get everyone packed, including you Jake. Pick one from your pack to go with us.” Edward said. I was confused what had happened while I was gone. Jane was very firm when she said that I would not be going with them. What had changed since I left? Not that I was complaining.

Bella's POV

Handing Renesmee to me, Jake looked back as he ran out the back door. I cradled Renesmee under my neck. She was still sleeping. I was lost in what Jane has just said to Jake. Was it possible that the Volturi requested our presence because Jake imprinted on Renesmee. I look at Edward with panic. Was there some law that forbid this?
"Not that I know of my love." Edward said reassuringly.
"When does Aro want us there Jane?" Carlisle asked. "We would have to make arrangements." He added.
"We will be flying out tonight on a private jet." Jane replied.
"WAIT" I snapped. "If you want us to leave with you Jane, then Jake and one of his pack members must come with us. I think everyone here would agree with that." I stated very boldly.
"Yes, I agree with that." Edward added. Everyone else nodded in approval. Maybe just maybe if this was going to be the end to our immortality, I could still save Renesmee if Jake was there. I thought about that day three months ago in the field and my plan that would have saved Renesmee life. Edward nodded to me in agreement.
"If that is what you would like, FINE. Although, I do not know how Caius will feel, since he still believes they are werewolves, but then again it is your immortality at risk, not mine." She snapped at all of us.
"At this point Jane, it already seems like our immortality is on the line." I snapped back. Giovanni glared at me. I did not know what to make of it. He had been glaring at me on and off. Maybe he was wondering how strong my shield was. Then out of nowhere he spoke. "Bella, may I call you Bella?" He asked. " O-ookay," I hesitated. "Bella, it would be in your best interest to listen to everything that Jane has said to ensure your little family's safety. I have learned in my short time with the Volturi, they do not like opposition nor do they like to be tried." He stated this as if he was being sympathetic, but I knew not to trust him.
"Giovanni, we will honor the request, as it seems we have no choice, but Jake will come with us. I hope the rest of the Volturi understand this." Edward said calmly.
Jake rushed through the back door again.
"So mutt, did you tell your pack to stay back?” Jane asked him. Jake answered her with as much venom in his voice that she addressed him with. Then she told us we all had three hours to pack and be ready.
"Giovanni and I will wait outside in the car. I do not like the stench of dogs." Jane lashed out.
As soon as she was out the door, we all looked at each other horrified.
"Okay everyone let's stay calm.” Carlisle stated.
"CALM CALM!" I exclaimed. "Yes, calm Bella my love." Edward tried to assure me.
"Well, I better go pack all of us. How many days should I pack for? Rose, will you help me?" Alice asked.
"Leave it to Alice to make sure that if we die, we do it in style!" I said upset.
"Alice before you go pack, could you see anything at all?" Carlsile asked her.
"NO," she said ashamed "It was worse then trying to see around Nessie or Jake." She was so upset.
"Edward, what do you think?" She asked him.
"I think that Giovanni has more abilities then Jane let on. I think Giovanni is the vampire that the Amazons once told us about Carlisle." he said.
"Maybe he is, but I don't understand what Aro could want!" Carlisle replied "We have broken no law." he said.
"How am I know allowed to go with?" Jake asked confused. Poor Jake did I just plan his demise and not know it.
"Bella insisted that you come with us." Edward told him.
"Jake do you remember what I told you that day in the field when I thought we might die? Do you remember what I told you to do with Renesmee, if need be?" I asked.
"Yes, why?" He questioned me.
"Just keep that in mind." I answered him. Renesmee started to wake up.

Chapter 4

Bella’s POV

Renesmee started to wake up. A great big smile came across her face as she looked up at me with her beautiful chocolate brown eyes, my old eyes. She put her hand to my face to show me her lovely dream. She was hunting with Jake and she took down the biggest animal, a grizzly bear.
“Don’t you think Uncle Emmett would be jealous.” I tried to keep my mood light and joke with her.
“Jealous of what?” Emmett asked.
“Nessie was dreaming she took down a grizzly bear.” Edward answered before I could.
“A girl after my own heart.” Emmett roared as he scooped Renesmee out of my arms to tickle her. She put her hand to his face and showed him her dream.
“Sorry Jake, sucks for you.” Emmett stood there laughing.
“What did I miss?” Jake asked.
“Nessie beat you to the grizzly.” Emmett laughed again.
“Oh,” Jake answered. His head was not on Renesmee”s dream. He was worried and it showed on his face. Renesmee put her hand back to Emmett’s face.
“He is just upset that you beat him to the grizzly Nessie.” Emmett said. Renesmee could tell that something was bothering Jake. She put her hand back on Emmett’s face.
“That’s nice of you Nessie. We all know you love Jake.” Emmett said.
“She said she will let you have the grizzly Jake if you cheer up.” Emmett growled at him.
Jake went over to Emmett to take Nessie. “I love you too Nessie.” Jake told her.
“Rose, can you take Nessie we have to talk?” Edward asked her.
“Sure thing, come on pretty girl, let’s go see what pretty dress Aunt Alice has for you to wear.” Rose said taking Renesmee upstairs. We waited until we heard Rose upstairs with Renesmee to start talking.
“Jake what member of the pack are you going to take with you?’ Edward asked.
“I don’t know! It would make sense to take Leah because she is the fastest if need be, but I don’t know if she can control it around other leeches.” Jake said.
“I think maybe you need to talk to the pack.” Edward stated .
“I was just thinking that, I will go out the back door and go discuss it with them.” Jake said sadly.
“Jake we trust your judgment, we trust you Jake." Edward said with confidence.
"I know. Thank you." Jake said. Jake headed out the back door. Tanya and Kate now joined us in a quiet discussion.
"What happened Tanya?" I demanded.
"We were out hunting and when we came back Jane and Giovanni were there. They were waiting inside our home." Tanya replied with a desperate tone.
"Where are Garrett, Eleazar, and Carmen?" Edward asked.
"Eleazar and Carmen are in Brazil and Garrett was out on his own hunt. He doesn't even know that we left." Kate stated.
"What did Jane say to you?” Carlisle asked.
"She told us that it was in our best interest and a most urgent matter that we go with her. It wasn't until we were on our way that she told us that we were coming here." Tanya said. “It was if they had planned it. Isolate us so we could not call you and no one else would know we are gone. For all Garrett knows, we could still be hunting." Tanya added.
"I wonder how much of this visit is about Nessie or maybe even Jake." Carlisle said worried.
"I do not know, but we are about to find out very soon." Edward murmured.

Chapter 4 cont.

Bella’s POV still

“What are we going to tell Nessie? I do not want to scare her!” Carlisle said sympathetically.
“Why doesn’t one of us ask Jane if Nessie can stay behind? That way we would not need to involve Jake and his friends.” Esme said. Leave Renesmee behind would be a great idea but would the Volturi allow it. Probably not, I had a feeling that this trip was about her.
“I will go ask Jane, it is worth a shot. At least we will all know that Renesmee will be safe.” I stated with confidence.
“I will go with you, my love.” Edward demanded as I knew he would. He would never let me walk out there by myself.
“Okay.” I was nervous. We walked outside and we saw a Black Lincoln Navigator parked outside with dark tinted windows of course. I could hear and smell the wolf pack lingering close by and I was greatly appreciative for that. As we approached the passenger door, the window went down half-way. I could see Jane’s crimson eyes as if they were daggers staring into my chest were my heart once was.
“Yes, Edward. What is your request now?” She stated as if she already knew we wanted something.
“Our request is to leave our daughter behind while we go with you. We do not want to alarm her.” Edward sounded as if he was begging. As least I knew my shield could protect us from Jane, if she got annoyed with our request.
“I am sorry my dear Edward, but Aro specifically requested you all, including your little half-breed.” Jane replied with a smile on her face.
“Of course Aro did, I would expect nothing less.” Edward said as we turned to walk back into the house.
“One hour left Edward.” She then added with joy. My hope turned into despair.
“Edward, I will no longer let you see my thoughts for you cannot know anything else.” I said in a desperate plea.
“I understand, my love. I agree.” Edward stated with sadness.
“I’m sorry darling. I love you more than my own life.” I said this as if I was able to cry, there would have been tears.
“And I love you and Nessie more than my own life.” He replied with a sob. Now it was time to tell Renesmee. We walked back into the house, our family hung their heads. They already knew what Jane had decided. We were up the stairs in a second and in Alice’s room. Alice was zipping about the room with Rose feverently packing. Renesmee was in the middle laughing at them both. She squealed and jumped into my arms as we walked in. She was now dressed in a Louis Vuitton yellow sun dress and her hair was done. I didn’t expect anything else from Alice and Rose. Renesmee put her hand to my face showing me how much she loved her new outfit. Then she showed me Alice and Rose packing.
I gazed into her precious eyes. I wanted to cry. I wanted to lose my mind at this point.
“Nessie honey, we are going on a trip. A trip to Italy.” Edward said calmly. Her eyes widening and her lips began to tremble, she was crying. She showed me the field where we almost lost our lives and her, three months ago.
“Do not worry Nessie, Mommy and Daddy will always think of you first.” Edward assured her. Pictures started flashing in my head of Jake, the wolf pack, Carlisle, Esme, Jasper, Alice, Rose, Emmett, Edward, and me. Then she replayed the scene in my head of us in the tent that fateful morning putting the little black leather backpack on her back.
I nodded at her. Edward hung his head being able to see the scene through her eyes.
“We are almost done, Edward. Everyone has one bag. I even have one for Jake and Leah.” Alice told us.
“Leah?” I questioned.
“Yes, Leah is coming with us.” Alice replied. “I have seen that. It is almost getting easier to see the wolf pack. Still a little hazy though.” She added.
“Alright, we have thirty minutes.” Edward said. “It is a good thing we all hunted earlier today.” he added. “ Make sure you pack some human food for Nessie, Jake, and Leah. Sorry Nessie, it will have to do for now.” He said. Renesmee placed her hand on my face and showed me the grizzly again. This made Edward chuckle.
"Soon my darling, you will get your chance at that grizzly!!!" He replied.

Chapter 5

Bella’s POV

We were all packed, but the anticipation we felt was not anticipation of excitement, it was fear. Fear of the unknown future. I hated packing the cars with our bags. Half of us were in the Navigator with Jane and the other half took Emmett’s Jeep. Jane stayed in the Navigator with Edward, Tanya, Kate, Jasper, Jake, Esme, Carlisle, and Rose. Being separated from Edward was agony, but it was strategically planned that way. If they separated Edward from me, I could not shield him as well as I could if we were in the same car. Jake’s eyes were full of anguish being separated from Renesmee. I needed to be with her and if this was possibly the end of us, I wanted every moment I could get. Emmett, Leah, Giovanni, Alice, Renesmee, and I were in Emmett’s Jeep. I believe that Giovanni was able to block Alice from seeing the future. Plus, he was able to shield Jane from Edward reading her thoughts. Tanya and Kate were right, this was planned. I am sure by now Edward had come to the same assumption.
“Bella, are you worried?” Giovanni asked me. I was stunned was he being arrogant.
“Why don’t you draw your own conclusion? Why would you ask me if I am worried? This is my family and they are my life or immortality. What do you think?” I snapped back at him.
“Maybe, you should not worry as much as you believe you have to Bella!” He replied with a concerned tone.
“What does that mean? I do not like riddles, so if you have something you wish me to know, just out with it already!” I must have sounded like I was begging.
“All I can tell you Bella is not everything is as it seems, and that there is sometimes hope although there feels like there is nothing but despair.” Giovanni said sympathetically. What could he possibly mean? I hated to be in the dark, literally. I looked out the window at the night sky and I could see a couple of stars. I just wished now for Renesmee to grow up and be able to see a night sky full of stars.
“Okay, you want to be a Hallmark card, hope when there is despair. Will we be safe? Can you answer that for me?” I barked at him. He stared out the window and did not answer me or look my way.

Edward’s POV

I couldn’t stand to feel helpless, especially when it risked my family. Jake was so worried I could hear him thinking. ‘I wonder if Nessie scared. Is this because I imprinted on her? She I have brought Leah or Quil or Embry?’
“Jacob, do not doubt yourself or blame yourself for this. I think it was smart of you to bring Leah.” I said to reassure him.
“I know Edward, would you just let me think?” Jacob asked. I just nodded at him. I missed Bella and I worried that she was riding in the car with the one person that could penetrate her shield and hurt her. It was obvious why they separated us, to keep control. I felt so helpless, even more helpless then that day in the field when the Volturi came to kill us. We arrived at a field and there was a Boeing 727 in the middle of the field. The plane was a symbol of despondency. There was no hope to turn back, but at least I could be with Bella and Nessie now. We got out of the cars and I was at Bella’s side in a second. Nessie put her hand on my face to ask me if the plane was for us. I nodded. We carried our bags and boarded the plane. We had entered our own imminent catastrophe.

Chapter 5 cont.

Leah’s POV

I was chosen to come along with Jake. I was wondering why would he choose me. I always seem to be the one he is trying to get out of his head. Sitting in the car with Bella was the worse. I always thought of her as an enemy. She knew my dislike for her and now she sits there with Nessie on her lap looking so helpless, almost like when she was human. Just weak. I found that I had empathy for her. What was I saying? I really need to get it together she was usually the reason we were risking our lives. Leave it to Bella to need help even when she was a strong bloodsucker.
“So I never knew that there were female werewolves.” Giovanni said to me.
“And your point would be what?” I hissed back at him.
“Nothing it is just interesting to meet another unusual phenomenon.” He states tenderly.
“Thanks, I guess.” I answered shyly. I didn’t know what to make of this leech. Jake was right these leeches were not like the Cullen’s, especially that Giovanni. As we pulled up to the plane, I realized I might never see Seth, my mom, or even Sam again. However, I was here for Jake and Nessie.

Bella’s POV

We pulled up to the plane and got out of the car. Edward was by my side before I could turn around. That car ride must have been as agonizing for him as it was for me. We all took our bags and boarded the huge plane. I wondered if there would be enough room for the plane to take off. Edward squeezed my hand.
“Don’t worry my love, there will be enough room.” He said to me. My shield was all around us again. We all took our seats with Jane and Giovanni sitting behind us all. Renesmee fell asleep on my chest. I could see Jake’s face and he was in pain. I handed Renesmee to him and he just sighed. I replayed the conversation that Giovanni and I had in the car so Edward could hear it.
“Interesting, he is almost being noble.” He replied to me. I answered him ‘I do not know if it was to give me false hope or if he was serious. All I know is that it bothers me.’
“I know Bella, we will stay strong. We cannot show weakness to any of them.” He said sternly. The rest of the family listened and nodded in agreement.
“When we land Cullen’s and Denali’s there will be two cars waiting to take us to Volterra. Hurry and get into them separately as you were in the other cars.” Jane demanded.
“ Yes Jane, we will follow your orders.” Carlisle answered.
“Good then we will have no problems.” She said and went back to her seat.
“Alice, anything yet.” Jasper asked her.
“No Jazz, it is very fuzzy, it is like it wants to break through.” she said annoyed.
“It is like I am on the wrong channel. It is very disturbing.” She added.
“It has to be him.” Rose hissed, looking back at Giovanni. He just smiled as we all looked back.
“I agree, there is no way you could see the Volturi before and then not see them now.” Emmett replied. Jake just sat quietly hugging Renesmee to his chest. ‘Edward, Jake is scared. Isn’t he?’ I had never seen Jake so scared before.
“He is worried that this is his entire fault.” Edward answered me. ‘That is absurd. Why would he think that?’ I answered my own question before he could, ’Jane!’ Edward just looked at me. He didn’t even have to say yes or nod. Jake was blaming himself and thought we might die because of him imprinting on Renesmee

Chapter 5 cont.

Jacob’s POV

I couldn’t help but think I was the reason for all of this trouble. Edward needed to stay out of my head and let me have a moment to myself. I know he means well, but if we get to Volterra and these bloodsucking leeches kill the Cullen’s, even if I do get away with Nessie and Leah, I will never forgive myself. I loved holding Nessie in my arms, she was my reason to be and to keep breathing. I use to think that it was Bella before she got pregnant and turned into a vampire, but this is the other half of my soul. I could not imagine the rest of my life without Nessie. Nor would I. I looked up to find Edward staring at me with a pain-stricken grin on his face. ‘WHAT.’ I hollered in my head.
“Thank you, Jacob.” was all he replied. ‘Your welcome bloodsucker.’ I said in my head.
“Do you think we should go into Volterra in our wolf forms?” Leah asked.
“I don’t know.” I replied dumbfounded.
“What do you think Edward?” I asked.
“I think we should wait and see what the reaction is before you phase.” Edward said.
“But shouldn’t we be prepared just in case?” Leah asked him.
“What if they see your wolf form as a threat!” Edward exclaimed. “Caius thinks you are werewolves, this might cause a problem.” He added.
“Very true, but don’t you think our human form may cause a problem as well?” I asked.
“No so much, Bella was human when she first met the Volturi.” He stated. “Let’s just say any immediate threat to you or Leah, you phase!” He said.
“Agreed.” I said.

Edward’s POV

This flight could not be long enough. I wish it would last forever, but my forever would end in just four short hours. Everyone had been very quiet in their own thoughts. It was really hard to hear some thoughts that came to mind. Rose kept repeating in her head ‘Emmett I hope you know how much I love you.’ Emmett was thinking ‘ Maybe I will actually have a chance at Felix and Demetri now. If we are gonna die let’s go out making some noise.’ This was a typical Emmett. Carlisle just kept expressing his love for all of us and trying to reassure that we would make it through this. Esme just looked at all of us and remembered moments that meant the most to her. She would kiss Carlisle hand when she thought of him. Alice was thinking of ways to get around Giovanni’s shield to see the future. Jasper was trying to keep everyone calm including himself. Bella thoughts were the hardest for me to hear. She would think of how much she loved Nessie and me. The time we spent together and intimate moments between us. Nessie was back to dreaming about her grizzly bear. I was so involved in everyone’s thoughts that I didn’t even notice that we were landing now. My forever was over.
“Remember everyone, quickly to the cars.” Jane demanded again.
“We will Jane.” I replied.
“Make sure to put your sunglasses on and cover up as much as possible. We don’t want to expose ourselves.” Carlisle told us. I didn’t even realize that it was daytime and the sun was out. I think I prayed for the first time that Carlisle and Bella were right about our souls.

Tanya’s POV

Kate looks so lost without Garrett, as I bet he is without her. I am glad that she found her mate. I am very confused by this whole situation. Everything happened so fast. I wondered if we were all on our way to our deaths. Maybe the Volturi would find it easier for us to come to them to kill us, instead of them come to us. Kate just stared at the floor the whole plane ride. I knew she was blaming herself for involving our cousins.
“What could we have done Kate?” I asked . She just looked up at me. I knew at that point that if she could have cried, she would be.
“No, that should not have been an option. You did what you were suppose to.” Edward replied with a stern tone.
“But,” Kate started to say, her voice was trembling.
“No, Kate. I am just as sorry that you have been dragged into this because this is about us.” Edward continued with a loving tone.
“Yes, Kate. You are our family and you should not suffer because you made sure that you lived. They would have sent Demetri to track us.” Carlisle expressed. Kate relaxed a little, but I could still see the turmoil on her face.
“Sister, we will get through this somehow, someway. I have faith.” I said to her calmly. Kate eyes just turned to Bella and Nessie. Now I understood. She had become so close with them on our last visit with the Cullen’s. I understood completely. The plane was starting to get ready to land.

Jacob’s POV

I wanted to throw up as the plane landed. I felt so sick to my stomach and it wasn’t the plane ride. I knew I had to be strong and not show any fear, but I was scared for the first time in a long time. I wasn’t even this scared when we faced those leeches in the field, but then again we had the whole pack there with up.
“Jake,” a small voice said. “Are you okay? You look kinda green!” Bella said with worry.
“O-ooh I 'm okay. Just a little air sick, I guess.” I reassured Bella. Edward just smirked at me. He knew that I was really worried. Gosh, doesn’t that ever get annoying, listening to everyone's mind all the time. He grinned even bigger. It drives me crazy with Leah. I hated having to hear her thoughts. I knew it was something I couldn’t block in my wolf form, but as least in human form I had relief. I felt sorry for Edward he couldn’t just change to another form to get everyone’s thoughts out of his head. I looked up at him, his smile was gone. He looked sad. ‘Some thoughts are hard to hear, huh.’ I said in my head. He just nodded. I felt a little hand on my face and immediately I saw pictures of Nessie and me hunting. Wow. She took that grizzly down. I laughed to myself.
“I am impressed. Are you hungry Nessie?” I asked her concerned. She nodded yes.
“Nessie, you will have to eat human food for a little while.” Edward told her. She put her hand to my face and I saw an image of Bella trying to get her to eat vegetables. Nessie face looked how I felt at that moment, sick. Her nose turned up. I laughed and so did Edward.
“What’s so funny?” Bella asked.
“Oh nothing Bella. Nessie was just telling me how much she LIKES human food.” I laughed some more. It was a great distraction for a minute. Then I realized we landed and we were in Italy.

Chapter 6

Bella’s POV

Landing was the hardest thing to imagine, it put us that much closer to our fate. ‘Charlie’ I thought. ‘I forgot to write a note or anything that would assure him that we were okay.’ Edward stroked my cheek.
“I left a note for him Bella. I gave it to Seth.” Edward said in a comforting tone.
“Thank you,” I replied. I was so lucky to have a loving, caring, thoughtful, and beautiful husband.
“As I am to have you my love.” he whispered brushing his lips to mine. I felt like cattle being herded as we got off the plane. We walked quickly through out exit and followed Jane as she led the way. Giovanni followed behind us. Yes, I felt like cattle for sure. I held on to Edward’s hand for dear life. I dreaded to be separated from him for the car ride. I didn’t want to be separated from him at all. Edward gave my hand a gentle squeeze to reassure me he was thinking the same thing. I let Jake carry Renesmee, because she would be separated from him on the ride. I could see he was thinking about that also.
As we exited the airport, we noticed two Cadillac Escalades, just waiting for us. My hand gently slipped from Edward’s as we were separated. Jake unwillingly handed me Renesmee. We were once cattle again, as my family and I were being separated again. The only difference is now Tanya and Rose were in the car with us.
“May I hold Nessie for a little while?” Rose asked me.
“Of course you can. Renesmee, go to Aunt Rose.” I told Renesmee kissing her forehead. I knew that this helped to comfort Rose. I wondered if the trip to Volterra would be as quick as when Alice and I made the drive. Probably not. We had human drivers. I almost forgot Giovanni was in the car with us. That was until he spoke.
“Bella, can you explain to me a little about your daughter? What gift does she have?” Giovanni asked. I was a little taken back by his question.
“She is able to show us her thoughts, dreams, and imagines through touch. When she places the palm of her hand on our face we see what she wants to show us.” I answered very quickly.
“Can you tell me a little about you Giovanni?” I asked smugly.
“All I can tell you Bella is I am the vampire that legend talks about. I sought the Volturi out. They did not find me.” He replied in a calm tone. So the legend was true.
“Are you the reason Alice cannot see the future?” I asked immediately.
“Yes, I am.” He answered back. Rose hissed.
“Calm down Rose.” I said to her.
“It is true that my shield is the most powerful shield that we know of. But from what I have been told, your shield is powerful too.” He replied.
“I am not trying to block Alice’s power, but it is an effect of my shield. Because I was shielding Aro that is why she could not see what was in the future.” He added. This made sense. I could see it now and I was nervous. VOLTERRA

Edward’s POV

Getting into that car, separated from Bella and Nessie, was torture. It was harder this time then the last time. Esme reached out for my hand. I could hear her thoughts. ‘Edward dear, we will find a way. I will not lose any of you.’ I had a lump in my throat. I just stared at the floor of the car.
“Edward, there is still hope. Maybe the Volturi just want to talk to us or need our help.” Carlisle said to reassure me.
“Our help, for what possibly. If they needed our help they would not need all of us to come. This feels like we are being sentenced.” I snapped back. I did not mean to snap at Carlisle, but I was feeling desperate. I hated to think of any of my family in harm.
“I do know I do not trust Giovanni.” Jasper added. I looked at him.
“I hate that Alice is with him in that other car.” Jasper said sadly.
“Well maybe you should hate him Jasper.” Jane added from the front.
“What is that suppose to mean Jane?” Jasper asked.
“I just think you should be aware that he is very powerful, more so then the rest of you, that gives us power.” Jane replied grinning. Jake was shaking and trembling again. I put my hand on his arm and looked at him. He calmed down.
“Is that a threat leech?” Jake asked her.
“Not a threat. I just think you should be aware that with him, we have the upper hand.” Jane stated. I was nervous as I looked up. There it was, VOLTERRA.

Chapter 6 cont.

Bella’s POV

We pulled around to a damp, dank entrance. It was not the same entrance that I once remembered in my now hazy human memory. The gloom and dark filled the air around us, closing in on us. I did not even notice that Edward opened my door until I looked up. A smile crossed my face as I reached my lips to his. His lips pressed down on mine and at once I remembered my first night as a newborn. He gently pulled away with a grin. He was able to see my memory. I had to tell him about Giovanni’s question and our conversation. I quickly ran through it in my head. He glared at Giovanni with such hate in his eyes.
“I don’t like that he is questioning about Nessie.” He stated very boldly as Giovanni walked past him. ‘Neither do I. Please stay calm for us.’ I thought. His mood quickly changed.
“Nessie is very hungry, Bella.” Rose said breaking my stare with Edward.
“Of course she is.” I replied.
“Jane we need to feed our daughter. Is there anyway someone may get three rare steaks?” Edward asked.
“Let us get inside first. Then you can feed the half-breed.” Jane hissed at us.
“THANK YOU.” Edward snapped. I took Renesmee from Rose. She put her hand to my face to show me that she was fine until we could get in. Edward stroked her hair and kissed her forehead. Jake still looked very frightened. We started our walk towards the ominous entrance.
“Prendere le borse!” Jane called to our drivers. They took our bags from us. As we headed inside the entrance, I looked back at the light that still playfully came through the door before it closed. Was this a metaphor for our existence. The uneasiness was rising in my throat. I could see an elevator down the long, threatening hallway. The last time I was on that elevator, Edward, Alice, and I almost did not return. Edward grabbed my waist pulling me closer to his body. We approached the elevator and we were ushered inside. Now I felt like cattle waiting to be slaughter, unknowingly headed into their own death. Jake took up most of one corner of the elevator and had to bend his neck to fix inside. When the elevator stopped, I noticed that it was not the same as before. Maybe my hazy human memory was just to foggy.
“No you are right Bella, this is not the same room.” Edward answered my confusion.
“Where are we Edward.” I asked anxiously.
“I am not sure my dear!” Edward said a bit agitated. Jane led us through two double wooden doors. The doors creaked and moaned in disapproval as she pulled them open. We were now in a room that looked like a waiting room. Further discovery of the room revealed a bedroom off to the left and a bathroom to the right. In the main room was a long glass table. The room was off-white of course and plush blue carpeting. It would have been a beautiful, if it did not feel so final.
“I am sure you will want to change your clothes. By the way clean the mutts, they stink!” Jane said mockingly. Now we are suppose to change for our possible demise. Jane and Giovanni went to leave the room.
“Jane, please we need to feed our daughter and friends.” Edward asked pleading.
“Giovanni will bring you back what you requested. Now get ready. You all have one hour.” She told us.
“Thank you.” Carlisle replied. One hour? One hour until what, until we were being ripped apart and burned for what offense we had no clue that we committed. Edward grabbed me and pulled me to him. He held me and Renesmee so tightly. Everyone else just sat with blank stares.

Chapter 6 cont.

Edward’s POV

We pulled up to an unknown entrance, as least I have never seen it before. I couldn’t get out of the car fast enough. I wanted to be by Bella. I opened her door and saw her beautiful face looking up at me. Her smooth lips touched mine and before I knew it I was seeing our first night together after she had become a newborn. She amazes me still every time I look at her. Then she was thinking about a conversation between Giovanni and her. He had questions about Nessie. This infuriated me to every extent possible. We were taken down a lengthy hallway to the elevator. The whole time I could hear Bella’s worries and concerns. Jake was right there were time I wished I could not hear everyone thoughts, especially hers. Strange as it may seem, I had wanted for so long to hear every thought in her head, but now I felt feeble. Unable to comfort her, I pulled her tighter and closer to me. We all were on the elevator now. Everyone’s thoughts were so loud in the elevator. I did not recognize the where we got off the elevator. Jane took us to a room that looked like a conference room. In the back there was a bedroom and a bathroom. Jane told us to freshen up and that we had one hour. This time would fly. I asked for three rare steaks for Nessie, Jake, and Leah. They needed to eat. I gave my order to Giovanni.
“Please bring three rare steaks, Giovanni. And whatever else you can find to go with them.” I told him.
“I will get everything you requested, Edward.” Giovanni replied.
“One more question. Why were you inquiring about my daughter?” I asked in a firm tone.
“I was just curious. I meant no disrespect by it.” He replied apologetically.
“Remember, you all have one hour. I will be back in ten minutes with the food.” He added.
“Oh Edward, one hour! What are we going to do?” Bella said desperately.
“I think we need to remain calm and see what Aro wants.” Carlisle replied for me.
“Bella, please remain calm for Nessie.” I pleaded with her.
“Okay.” She replied so softly.
“Jake and Leah we have clothes for both of you. Leah, why don’t you go first and freshen up.” Esme said in a motherly tone. Leah went into the other room to the bathroom. Giovanni came back with enough food for ten people.
“Thank you, I appreciate this more then you know.” I told him.
“Here are some napkins, be sure to use them .” Giovanni said in a mysterious tone. I set Nessie plate for her. Jake was up getting his own. He reached for a napkin and pulled the first one off the top of the stack. Just as he pulled a folded up piece of paper fell to the floor.

Chapter 6 cont.

Jacob’s POV

Italy was kind of beautiful. Unfortunately, I wasn’t here to sight see. The car was winding up what could have been a mountain. I was pretty hungry by now. Oh well, I don’t know where I would hunt here. We came to a back entrance. It was dull and dreary. Just gave me the creeps. We walked through the entrance and Leah was right beside me. Gosh! It stunk so bad in here, like a hundred leeches all at once. Leah was cringing too. We got to this elevator at the end of this long hall. I could barely fit in it. I felt so cramped and uncomfortable. When the elevator stopped, we walked down this short hall to a room. The room looked like a place you would have a business meeting at. Edward asked for some food for Nessie, Leah, and me. Leah went to get changed into some fresh clothes that Esme packed for her. I am sure she wasn’t liking that. I would have to hear about it later. Giovanni brought back our food in less then ten minutes, he was quick. I went to pick up a napkin from the pile that he brought to us. As I pulled the top napkin, something fell to the floor. I was staring for a while, but noticed it was a folded piece of paper. I bent down to pick it up at the exact same time as Edward. As I got closer, I noticed it had a name printed on the outside of it. It said Bella.
“Stop Jake!” Edward exclaimed. I stopped as if someone had me in their sights to shoot me. I froze.
“Bella, come here please.” Edward said calmly. By now the rest of the Cullen’s and the Denali's were there looking down at the folded piece of paper with Bella’s name on it.
“What is it Edward?” She asked and looked down. She picked it up.
“Bella, there is a reason that paper has your name on it. You will have to shield everyone, but me.” Edward said to her. She dropped the note back on the table.
“Then I do not want to read it. I cannot imagine you getting hurt and me not protecting you.” Bella said with a pain-stricken look.
“Bella, you have to read it. It might save us all. I just cannot hear your thoughts. If it is a plan to save us I cannot know and no one else can read your mind.” Edward explained.
“No one else can know what is on that paper Bella. No one. You read it and get rid of it. If it is to our benefit, we will find out when the time is right.” Edward continued to explain to Bella. All of our eyes were on Bella now. I hadn’t even noticed that Leah was now back in the room. My food wasn’t so appetizing anymore. Nessie crawled up in my lap. She put her hand to my face and showed me the image of Bella shielding us all in the field that day.
“Yes, your mom will save the day again.” I encouraged Nessie. She smiled up at me and showed me her grizzly again. She knew she would get her chance to catch that grizzly. All her faith was in Bella.

Bella’s POV

The note with my name on it scared me more then it helped me. I was suppose to read this note and not tell anyone if we would be safe or not. I could not live with that much responsibility. All eyes were on me with the note in my hand. My family was depending on me to read the note. I could feel their eyes burning a h*** in me. The desperation was screaming from their faces. All of sudden, I heard the heavy door creaking again. I put the note behind my back. It was Giovanni.
“You have thirty minutes. I would suggest you hurry and get changed.” Giovanni told us.
“Yes, thank you.” Carlisle said. Giovanni left the room.
“Let’s all leave Bella, so she can decide what she wants to do. We need to get changed.” Carlisle said looking at me.
“I know you will make the best decision for us all, my love.” Edward whispered to me. I thought so he could hear me, ‘Sure no pressure!’ He smiled and kissed my hand as he left the room. Jake picked up Renesmee and carried her into the other room. I was utterly alone and for the first time in a long time, I felt it. I had decided what was best for my family, now it was time to act.

Bella’s POV

I slowly folded back one corner of the note to open it. I had exposed the first line. I took I deep breathe and finished opening the letter. I glanced down to the bottom of the letter. The last line said, ‘with your best interest at heart, Giovanni.’ Giovanni was the author of the note. My eyes fiercely studied the page. I started at the beginning. ‘Bella, I hope you will take into consideration every word I am about to tell you. Make sure no one else knows the context of this letter. This detrimental to all of you.’ I continued to read with such engagement, absorbing every word. After I was finish, I folded the note back up, so none of my family could tell if I had read it. Edward was no longer in my shield. This was probably a harder decision to make then reading the note. All eyes followed me with curiosity, I hastily walked into the bathroom and ripped the note up into minuscule pieces. I placed every piece in the toilet and flushed repeatedly until every last piece was gone.
I walked back out and no one asked me of my decision. As hard as it was, I had to keep a secret, a huge secret. I just hoped it was enough to save our lives.
“Alice, have you been able to see anything?” I asked her.
“No Bella, I have not!” She sounded annoyed. I thought about every word on that letter and I made mental notes on all the details outlined in it. I would not give anything away and from now I had to be careful. Careful in every word I spoke to anyone. Jake was already dressed in a tux. Edward, Carlisle, Emmett, and Jasper had on tuxes also. It looked as if we were going to a dinner party. Alice had laid out a black Valentino short sleeve lace dress for me and some silver stiletto heels. Only Alice would go into possible battle with stiletto heels and a Valentino dress. Alice, Rosalie, Esme, Kate, Tanya, and even Leah were dressed in designer dresses and heels. I went into the bathroom to get changed. Alice made sure my hair was perfect. Everyone looked very freshened up. Edward’s eyes lit up as I came out.
“Bella, you are so stunning.” Edward said like he was out of breathe. If I could have blushed, I would be scarlet red by now. I was still not use to being as beautiful as Rosalie, Alice, or Esme.
“Thank you, darling. You are stunning yourself.” I replied. Renesmee squealed with delight. I could tell by her expression she loved her new dress and mine.
“Mommy you are beautiful.” She spoke. Jake was across the room holding her.
“Jake, how do you like the tux?” I asked knowing he hated it.
“Oh the monkey suit, it’s okay.” He replied not happy at all. The doors creaked open again and there stood Giovanni and Jane. It was time to go meet the rest of the Volturi.

Edward’s POV

The plan was for none of us to know if Bella opened the note. That way if Aro saw the note and we did not know anything, maybe he would drop it. When we left Bella and went into the other room, we all agreed not another thought or word was to be spoken about the note. Bella walked back in and went straight for the bathroom. I could hear the paper ripping and the toilet flushing, but I did not give it a second thought. Alice had packed formal attire for us all. I knew that Jake, Leah, and Bella would not be happy about this. Leave it to Alice. If we were going to parish, it would be in style. Bella came out and collected her dress and heels. Alice followed back into the bathroom and in ten minutes my breath-taking wife exited the bathroom. I felt like I had to breathe , but I could not.
“Bella, you are so stunning.” I said like I was losing my breathe. I knew she wanted to blush if given the chance. Immortality suited her like a glove on a hand. Renesmee was thinking about how beautiful her mother was. She was so excited to see us all dressed up.
The door creaked and before I could turn I sensed someone else in the room. I turned to find Jane and Giovanni standing there, just looking at us.
“Well Cu-ll-ens, Denalis, and mutts, don’t you look nice.” Jane said smartly.
“It is time to go.” She added. “Follow me.” She then demanded. I noticed Giovanni staring at Bella. I was almost jealous. I lead Bella out of the room with my hand on the small of her back. We saw the elevator in front of us. We both stared at one another and then at Renesmee. It was time.

Chapter 7

Leah’s POV

This dress that I was forced into was making me itch. This was not my taste at all. Alice did my hair and that was bugging me. I looked in the mirror and I didn’t recognize the person in it.
“See you are beautiful.” Alice said trying to convince me of her creation.
“Yeah, sure, whatever.” I replied to her very unhappy with the situation. There was some commotion in the other room and we all went in to see what it was. Bella was holding a piece of paper in her hand and Edward was talking to her, but I couldn’t hear what he was saying. Then we all left Bella in the room by herself.
“Better you don’t know anyways.” Jake turned to me and said. I took it at that and agreed. If it was important for me to know, he would tell me. Bella came in a little while later, went into the bathroom, and was flushing the toilet. ‘Very strange’ I thought. Bella got dressed and I have to admit, I felt naked next to her. I really need to get a grip on this. I can’t like a leech like her. The door opened and Giovanni and Jane stood there. Jane told us it was time to go. I followed the rest of the Cullen’s, Denali’s, and Jake back to the elevator. We all boarded the elevator in silence. I glanced over to Jake, he looked really nice in his monkey suit. It smelled like leeches everywhere and it was hard to keep my composure. I thought of Sam and wondered if he was thinking about me. I needed to stop this, he was with Emily, end of discussion. I had thought I was getting better, but the thought of dying brought me right back to the love I had for him. The elevator doors opened and it looked like an office. There was a receptionist. She was HUMAN!!! That confused me. We were all led down this hallway. There were all these door that were gold. Jane stopped and it looked like she moved a piece of the paneling on the wall, but I couldn’t tell. I was too far back. All of us entered through this wooden door and into this huge round room. As I looked around, my nose turned up and I cringed. We were surrounded by all the same leeches that were there in the field three months ago. Jane and Giovanni left us and joined the three head leeches in the middle of the room. We were surrounded on all sides. I wanted to phase now.

Edward’s POV

As we were taken to the elevator, I pulled Bella closer to me. I couldn’t hear her thoughts and I knew she was not shielding me. I decided not to make any conclusions for my family’s safety. I was unable to hear anyone else’s thoughts too. It was so silent in my head. I was not use to being left alone with my own thoughts. I realized that I would have to hear Jake’s thoughts, so I could help control him if things got out of control.
“Bella,” I whispered in her ear very low. “I need to be able to hear Jake’s thoughts. I know you want to protect all of us, but I need to hear his thoughts so I can help control the situation.” I added. I could see the reluctance on her face. Then all at once my silent mind was filled with Jake’s thoughts.
“Thank you, my love, I know that was hard for you.” I whispered as I brushed my lips across her forehead. The elevator doors opened and I realized where we were. The reception area . There was a different receptionist though. I wondered if the other one had gotten her wish or if…she found her fate instead. I was sure Bella was thinking the same thing, even though that was a human memory for her. We were led into the turret. The door closed behind us. Aro stood before us with Marcus and Caius by his side. Jane and Giovanni left our side to join them. I could hear Jake thinking about the smell in the room.
“Carlisle, my dear dear friend. How are you? How was your trip? I hope Jane was pleasant company.” Aro said to Carlisle with a smile on his face. He approached Carlisle with his hand outstretched. He took Carlisle hand in his. He looked pleased.
“Jane darling, you could have been nicer.” Aro said scolding Jane.
“Sorry master.” She said with a smile.
“Our journey was fine. Thank you for asking Aro.” Carlisle answered. Aro was walking towards me now with his hand outstretched.
“My young friend, Edward, may I?” I unwillingly stretched my hand out to meet his.

Edward’s POV still

Aro reached for my stretched hand eagerly willing to take it in his. Thos time I could not see him going through my thoughts. Giovanni had to be the reason for that. Aro smiled as he released my hand.
“It is nice to see your thoughts my young friend.” Aro said to me pleased. “It is so refreshing to see a love as strong as yours and Bella’s love. Did she like your love note Edward? Curious, I can’t seem to see you write it.” He said with intense eyes.
“It was beautiful, Aro. Edward loves me so much.” Bella interrupted.
“Ahh, yes that is apparent, my dear Isabella!” Aro replied laughing.
“Relax, relax my dear friends. It is a pleasure to see you all again and here in Italy. Tanya and Kate, you look so well.” Aro gently spoke to us.
“Thank you.” Kate spoke softly still hanging her head.
“I see you have brought some friends with you, Carlisle. Who do we have here?” Aro asked curiously. I knew that he would have seen Jake and Leah in my memories.
“This is Jacob and Leah, Aro. They are friends of the family and they have been invaluable to us.” Carlisle answered proudly.
“Yes, yes, of course, the shape-shifters, as you call them. Welcome to Volterra friends.” Aro laughed. Jake’s thoughts were not so welcoming. As long as he could keep it together, maybe we could finally get to the underlining reason of why we are here.
“Isabella, beautiful Bella, I see that you have adapted well to immortality. Edward, your wife is striking.” Aro said. He floated to Bella and picked her hand up to kiss it.
“I still cannot see your thoughts though.” He laughed with amusement.
“Aro, stop delaying, you are boring me.” Caius demanded. I looked up to see his face.
“Patience my dear brother, let us welcome our friends.” Aro said. He went around the room welcoming everyone.
“Alice, the most impressive Alice, I see that you have not been able to see the future events. It is because of our newest member, Giovanni.” Aro found pleasure in this.
“I figured as much.” Alice replied not amused at all.
“Well, friends I would bet that you are all as curious as I am to find out why you are here.” Aro said in an animated tone. This was what we were all waiting for . We all wanted to know why we had been uprooted from our homes and dragged here.

Bella’s POV

That room did bring back unpleasant human memories for me, ones that I wish I would lose entirely. My uneasiness was perceptible. I must have looked uncomfortable in my beautiful pale skin. I wanted to keep Edward in my shield, but I knew I could not for all of our safety. As Aro went around to all of us, I let my shield release so that he could see everyone’s mind besides mine. I then shielded everyone again. Edward and Jake would be back in my shield soon enough I hoped. I had to be careful that Aro did not wish to read Edward’s thoughts again.
“Bella, your daughter has grown. Such a beautiful child, may I?” Aro asked holding his arms out for her. I glanced back to Edward with fear, he nodded. I gently placed Renesmee in Aro’s arms. She touched his face. He started to laugh a rolling and roaring laugh. I was wondering what could she be showing him. He handed her back to me.
“You must let her hunt that grizzly bear, she seems very intent on it.” Aro laughed some more. Of course, that is all she has been thinking about, but it saved her from him reading her thoughts. Renesmee had seen the note too. She is so brilliant, my beautiful child. Edward was smiling as well. I am sure he was thinking the same thing I was. The note, I had to follow the directions of the note, it was detrimental.
“Well my friends and new friends, the reason we are here is because I have discovered something. Something that is of great importance and involves all of you. It really involves all of us.” Aro said so seriously now. What did he discover? What could it be? We hung onto every word of that statement.


Chapter 7 cont.

Carlisle’s POV

What could Aro have discovered that was of great importance. I knew that I had to stay calm for the rest of my family. If I became unhinged, they all would. Sometimes being the glue that held us together was tough, but it was crucial. This is how I have managed my whole vampire life. I was wondering if there were some laws that we did not know about. Perhaps, by why would that be of great importance to both my family and the Volturi. If there was a law that we had broken, it would only be of great importance to them. I looked up at my son, his eyes were upon mine and probably wondering the same thing we all were. I kept calm and collected waiting for Aro to announce the ‘something that is of great importance.’

Edward’s POV

Great importance? I am sure we all wondered the same question. I know Jake was wondering the same thing I was. I wanted to just ask Aro to spit it out already, but I knew that would have been rude.
“I am sorry, Aro, but what could be so important that we are here. I am just curious.” Carlisle asked
“My friend, you think that you are here so we may sentence you? Interesting!” Aro replied. Not answering his own question with a definite answer, left us still wondering about our fate.
“Do you remember three months ago? When we came for our visit?” Aro asked. How could we forget?
“Yes, Aro, we remember vividly.” Carlisle said bluntly. Aro just laughed at his reply.
“Relax, my friend.” Aro added. “Do you remember Alice, the other half-breed that you found and brought for us to see?” Aro asked Alice.
“Yes, Aro. I remember Nahuel and his aunt, Huilen.” Alice answered. We were all confused at this point.
“We found his father Joham!” Aro announced quite pleased with himself.
“With Joham, we found another young male half-breed, Jaiden.” Aro continued.
“We found Joham, with his son Jaiden, in Paris.” He added.
“Of course, we took proper precautions so that Joham would not do this again.” Aro said arrogantly. None of us would have expected less.
“We were going to destroy the boy, until,” Caius added.
“Until I read his mind. He is glorious and has the ability to stop or slow time. He can move about while everyone else remains frozen. He can also choose who he freeze.” Aro said with a gleam in his voice. His smile was disturbingly menacing now.
“And what would this have to do with us, Aro” I asked.
“Well, the boy is now in our guard. He is nine years old and looks to be a teenager.” Aro continued getting to the point slowly.
“Jaiden, please step forward.” Aro called for the boy. I saw a boy with sandy brown hair and eyes as blue as the sea come forward. He was about my height and medium-build.
“We are aware of your daughter’s abilities. The only other female half-breeds are his sister.” Aro was still talking when it became apparent to all of us what Aro wanted.
“We want them to be mates, marry if necessary, and breed. With their powers, the offspring would be amazing.” Aro finished. My attention was on Jake and his thoughts. He was about to phase. Before I could screamed no, he had phased and was howling. The whole guard was crouching waiting to attack us. We all were now crouching, anticipating an attack. Bella’s shield was around us all now. I could hear Leah’s thoughts the loudest. I looked to my left and she had not phased along with Jake. She was frozen.

Jacob’s POV

I did not wait for Edward to stop me from phasing. Nessie mate with that other half-breed. My Nessie, I would die before that happened. Perhaps I was about to. All the leeches on the Volturi’s side were now ready to pounce. Why couldn’t I hear Leah? Why hasn’t she phased yet? I looked back at her I recognized the frozen look on her face. I remember that I once had looked like that. That had to be the look on my face. NO! SHE DIDN’T! She was staring at the other hybrid. She was staring at Jaiden. I howled an alpha howl to get her attention. Within seconds, her stare was broken and she phased. I could hear her thoughts now. I could feel what she was feeling. Now I knew, Leah imprinted on Jaiden. In order to save our lives, we would all have to get out of here, including him.
“It took you to come to Italy to imprint Leah, perfect timing.” I snapped in my thoughts at her.
“I..I’m sorry Jake. He is just so beautiful. This is what it feels like.” She replied like a love sick school girl. This is what I sounded like with Nessie?
“Only you, Leah. Only when we are about to die.” I snapped back. What else could possibly happen? I didn’t want that question answered.

Chapter 7 cont.

Jaiden’s POV

As I stepped out from behind Felix, I could feel all the eyes in the room on me. I heard the howl of a werewolf and before me stood a large russet colored wolf. He was glaring at me. The rest of the guard was crouching, ready to attack. Snarls and hisses filled the room. I was looking at what must have been the Cullen’s. I was looking for the other hybrid when my eyes met hers. She was the most beautiful creature that I have ever seen. Her yellow designer dress made her bronze skin glow with radiance. I noticed every curve of her face down her neck to her collar bone. Her hair trailed alongside her beautiful face, playfully hiding her gorgeous deep set eyes. She had me enthralled. Her every movement I wanted to be a movement with me. I felt intoxicated with everything about her. I could feel a pull from my feet to the top of my head. I burn with immense passion for her. I could think of nothing else. Then there was another howl from the werewolf and before I could blink she was now one too. Even in her wolf form, she was glorious. I felt the need to be next to her, to protect her. Should I use my power? The other wolf was looking at me as if I was to be his meal.

Bella’s POV

My daughter was to be Jaiden’s mate. This was their plan and what if we refused. The only three vampires that were not crouching and hissing were Aro, Giovanni, and Jaiden. Jake had transformed so quickly that I had not had time to take in everything that was being said. I was whirling and my shield was stretched around us. Jaiden was looking at Leah, but in a way that I looked at Edward. Did I miss something?
“Leah imprinted on Jaiden.” Edward whispered to me. I gasped. I knew that we would have to save Jaiden now too. The way he was looking at her, he might just possibly come willingly.
“Friends, friends, let us be rational. Let us talk about our proposition.” Aro replied trying to calm us all.
“What proposition? I did not know I was going to make a proposition with my daughter.” I hissed back at him.
“Bella, we propose that you raise your daughter until she is old enough and then she comes here to be Jaiden’s mate.” Aro replied with a smile. Jake and Leah moaned as if they were in pain.
“And our other option, Aro?” I snapped.
“The other option my dear Isabella, is that we raise your daughter. If you say no, we will take your daughter and everyone’s immortality." Aro said without thinking. Edward was hissing and crouching even further. ‘Calm down, Edward. Trust me.’ I thought.
“There is a problem with that, Aro.” Carlisle replied. Aro looked at Carlisle with a questioning face.
“You see Aro, Nessie is already promised to another. If you take her from him, it would kill him.” Carlisle replied calmly.
“Ahh, I see. That is a problem. Is that what I saw in your memories Edward, your daughter is promised to the werewolf.” Aro asked Edward.
“Yes, he has imprinted on her and he will be with her forever. Whatever that may entail!” Edward barked back.
“Yes, yes, definitely a problem.” Aro said smugly.
“I do not see a problem, Aro.” Caius replied.
“Simply kill the mongrel.” He added with a callously. I thought to myself and quickly.
“No, if you kill him, she would surely die as well. They are linked.” I shouted in hopes that they would believe me and not question it.
“Tanya and Kate, have you witnessed such a bond between the child and wolf?” Aro asked.
“Yes, we all have witnessed the bond between them. I do not think it would be possible for one to exist without the other.” Tanya answered.
“This is your witness then?” Aro asked her. The Denali’s were here to witness? I was confused.
“Well then, we will simply have to think about this one.” Aro said.
“Definitely quite the dilemma.” Aro added heartlessly. Was this just what they wanted? Did they finally figure out a way to kill my daughter? Caius would get what he wanted both my daughter and a werewolf dead. I wondered if they already knew about the imprinting from that day in the field. Aro had read all of Edward’s thoughts, surely there was something in there about Jake imprinting on Renesmee. Edward looked at me.
“Yes, he saw the imprinting.” Edward whispered to me. “He was intrigued by it.” He quickly added. Now what? This whole trip was it to finish what they could not finish in the field that fateful day. Edward’s eyes met mine and instantly I knew the answer to my own question. YES!

Chapter 7 cont.

Leah’s POV

The head leech called someone forward. I stared perplexed, wondering who might be coming out now. What new danger were we about to be introduced to? As someone stepped out from behind this huge leech, I focused ready to phase if need be. I saw a young man with sandy brown hair. As he lifted his head, the most beautiful eyes met mine, blue as the bluest, clearest ocean. They drew me in and I suddenly felt thirst. I traced his pale exquisite skin down to his lips. They were slightly parted. I wanted to feel those perfect ruby colored lips on mine. I could feel my skin tingling with exhilaration. The blue dress shirt he had on did him no courtesy. His biceps were bulging ever so slightly. I could see the top of his chest, because the top buttons were undone. I wanted to feel his arms engulf me and pull me close to his chest. I needed his embrace, I yearned for it. I realized for just a moment that I had this feeling before when one of the wolf pack imprinted. I IMPRINTED ON HIM! I was so shocked as I repeated it in my head. The room was spinning so quickly. No, I was genetically doomed. I had come to that conclusion and was starting to accept it. What was his name? I was so captivated by him, had I not heard his name? His name was Jaiden. I noticed the lovely sound of it as it rolled off my tongue. I wanted to shout it as loud as I could. I then heard the Alpha howl and I immediately phased, but I could not get out of my mind everything I felt. I could hear Jake scolding me, then he winced and realized I had imprinted. Then he said something that I hadn’t realized, we would now have to save Jaiden in order to make it out alive. This wasn’t fair, I finally got what I was waiting for and now we might possibly die. I looked at Jaiden to see if his eyes were still looking at me. He was still looking at me with the same passionate look. My wolf form did not scare him? For the first time since Sam, I felt beautiful. We had to survive and I wasn’t going down without a fight. I had something to fight for besides being part of Jake’s pack.


Edward’s POV

We all stayed crouched as Aro, Caius, and Marcus debated over our fate. This reminded me of that day in the field as we waited, before Alice showed up with Nahuel and his aunt. Tension filled the air around us. Felix looked ready to take us all out, but he would know that Jaiden could stop time and Giovanni could destroy us with his voice. This was personal for him. He wanted a piece of me personally. He had wanted a piece of me since that day I almost exposed myself, when I did not want to live, because I believed Bella to be dead. My trance was broken by something Bella kept repeating in her thoughts. ‘Feel the greatest emotion I know and move my hands.’ She kept repeating this over and over again. I looked at her with confusion. She stopped thinking and looked at me.
“Bella, what is that you keep repeating?” I whispered to her. She looked at me with a grin. ‘Do you trust me, Edward?’ She thought.
“Of course I do, always.” I replied quietly. She just smiled at me. ‘Why is Felix looking at you like that?’ She snapped in her thought. She knew exactly why he was looking at me like that. Felix wanted to rip me apart and burn me himself.
“You are right, my dear, he has wanted that since the day I almost exposed myself.” I whispered to her. Her head cocked to the side and she grinned the most evil grin I had ever seen come across such a beautiful face. Jane’s evil little grins could not compare.
‘We will see about that.’ She thought, but quickly her thoughts changed to thoughts of the family, Nessie, Jake, the wolf pack, and her most explosive thoughts and feelings were of me. Her focus turned to Felix and her hand twitched ever so slightly. Before any of us knew what was happening, Felix was up in the air and colliding into a concrete pillar with such force. One of his arms flew the opposite direction. Bella laughed to herself with pleasure. WHAT JUST HAPPEN? BELLA JUST DID THAT!! The families’ eyes were on her, as the next slight move of her hand and he was launched across the room again. It sounded like a thunderstorm as he smashed into wall after wall. As pieces of Felix broke off, it sounded like smashing concrete and twisting metal. The rest of the Volturi were confused at were the attack was coming from. They had no idea it was Bella. Her movements were so fast and so slight, they could not be detected. I was mesmerized by my wife’s talents. She let Felix fall to the ground broken. He slammed to the ground with such force, that the rest of the guard were scrambling to gather his pieces to put him together. His snarls and moans of pain filled the room. Carlisle looked at me in shock. Maybe he didn’t know it was Bella. How did she know to do this? Immediately, I thought, she read the letter. Who was the letter from? I looked up to see Giovanni grinning, pleased with Bella’s accomplishments. I was so stunned. I looked to Bella and she smiled at me lovingly.
“He won’t think about hurting you again.” She whispered to me.

Chapter 8

Bella’s POV

The power that exuded from by body overwhelmed me. Never before have I felt this much strength, definitely not in my weak human existence. I wanted to visually see Felix’s face crush into dust. I wanted to crush him like I did the boulder that day arm wrestling with Emmett. I have never felt so much detest and power before. It scared me and quickly I drop Felix to the ground. He collided with such force that he face cracked. The moans and shrills that filled the room were ear-piercing. Giovanni was right. He was gazing at me with a smile. I felt a smile cross my face. The room was in chaos. The Volturi were scattering to find all of their fierce enforcer’s body parts. I turned to Edward and gave him a smirk. He just stared, mouth gaped open. ‘Edward close your mouth dear.’ he closed it quickly. The rest of the Cullen’s, Denali’s, Jake, and Leah were confused as to where the dominant force came from. I giggled to myself. Renesmee was perched on my back. She reached around to my face to replay what just happen. Then there was the memory of Jake saying that I would save the day again. I patted her hand to assure her it was true. ‘That was amazing. I have never felt anything like that before.’ I thought so Edward could hear me. His face still blank in shock. Jake’s fur was standing on end and so was Leah’s.
“How did you do that Bella?” Edward managed to stutter out of his mouth. ‘Giovanni told me some things to fine tune my shield.’ I thought. ‘Instead of focusing on the anger that the Volturi make me feel, I focus on my most intense emotion, the love I have for all of you, especially you Edward.’ I replied in my head. I hadn’t noticed that Aro’s and the rest of the Volturi were now staring at us. Demetri was helping poor Felix, put himself back together. I thought of Humpty Dumpty and laughed to myself. A smile came across Edward’s face also.
“Who dare to assault on e the guard?” Caius demanded, looking at all of us.
“My brother, wait! Is there a power that one of you has developed that we are not aware of?” Aro asked as stunned as the rest.
“Perhaps, the child.” Aro asked reaching towards us. I quickly flicked my fingers and he could not come any farther. In that exact instance, he knew that it was me.
“Bella, your shield has developed immeasurably.” Aro said still in amazement.
“How come I did not see this in any of your memories?” Aro asked sounding distressed by the situation.
“Unless, this is a recent discovery for you my dear.” Aro said perplexed by his conclusion.
“Maybe it is.” I said with enjoyment. I looked around the room. I stopped when I saw Jane’s face. For the first time, I saw the fear on her once smug face.
“Jane are you scared?” I asked laughing. Now she would get a taste of her own medicine. She quickly realized that I sensed her fear. Jake was chuckling as he had noticed it too.
“No, why would I be? I have Giovanni to shield me!” She stated back to her smug self.
“Are you so sure about that?” I laughed and continued. All eyes were now on Giovanni, but they quickly shifted as I walked to the door and opened it. We had visitors and Aro’s eyes widened in fear. Now it was time to repay the Volturi for their visits. I felt the vengeance building in my body. They were about to see the unexpected.

Chapter 8 cont.

Jacob’s POV

Seeing that leech fly through the air and smash into the walls was so entertaining. I have to admit I didn’t know who was doing it. Then when I realized that all eyes were on us, my fur stood on end. Growls and snarls match those that were in the room. Leah was also growling. When that head bloodsucker accused Nessie of being the one responsible, I snapped at, snarling and showing my teeth. He approached us slowly. He wanted to touch Nessie, but he was suddenly stopped short. He then looked at Bella and I realized it had been her. I was impressed. I was looking around the room at the rest of the bloodsucking leeches and they looked frightened. Jane face was cringing in horror. Bella called her on it and I couldn’t help but laugh. I was now amused and finally felt for the first time that we had a chance.
“Maybe we do Jake!” Leah shrilled. Maybe she was right. That note had to be the key to this.
“Is that why you told me it was better I didn’t know?” Leah questioned me.
“Yes , it was on a need to know basis.” I replied.
“Who was the note from?” She asked.
“I don’t know, none of us were to know to protect whatever was in it.” I answered her. She was thinking of Jaiden and how she could get to him and protect him. Then I heard Bella tell Jane something about Giovanni. Was he on our side? Well the note did show up in the stack of napkins he brought. Yes, it made sense, it was him.
“He is on our side? Do you think?” Leah asked me doubting my thought.
“Yes, otherwise he wouldn’t have such a big grin while the rest of them look scared.” I replied. Then Bella walked back to the door that we came through and opened it. I focused my eyes to see who was coming through it. Bella’s shield felt like a thick cloth draped around us. This was the first time I could feel it. It was strong. Who was that coming through the door? NO, what are they doing here and why?

Edward’s POV

Bella was absorbed with her new powers. Had they been there the whole time? Maybe we were looking at her talent from the wrong perspective. I am glad that she worked on her shield after the months that followed the Volturi’s last visit. Who knows she might not be this strong now. I doubt that. I was impressed and overly amused by my lovely wife. Her shield was thick and it engulfed us all. I now wondered what else was in that letter. I guess I would find out soon enough. The room was so overwrought, everyone guard was up. Giovanni had a grin so wide, he was so pleased with himself. He was not at all worried when Bella announced that he may not be as loyal as they thought. There was fear radiating from all the Volturi now, including Aro, Caius, and Marcus.
“What is going on Edward?” Carlisle asked in a frightened tone.
“The note Carlisle, it was from Giovanni, he told her how to use her shield.” I replied.
“Alice, can you see anything yet?” I asked her.
“Yes!” She exclaimed.
“You won’t believe who is about to come through the door!” She was squealing. At that exact time Bella walked back to the door and opened it. I was in shock as to whose thoughts I was hearing. I didn’t believe it until They walked through the door. Why are they here? I made the connection immediately and my eyes flashed quickly back to Giovanni. He nodded to me. Bella walked back over to me with a pleased composure. Everyone in the room gasped at the sight of the visitors before us. I could hear Leah worrying about Jaiden.
“Bella, I need you to see if you can levitate Jaiden and bring him behind your shield. If we are all going to live, we must save him or Leah will die trying.” I told her in a hushed tone.
“I can try Edward.” Bella replied.
“Leah, I am going to try to bring him to us. Stay calm!” Bella told Leah reassuring her. Leah whined and a small howl left her lips in approval. Bella focused on the young hybrid and he was slowly lifted off his feet. He started to panic, but then Leah let out another howl and he calmed down. I know he could have frozen time and just joined us, but I couldn’t hear his thoughts and I wanted to be sure he would be safe. He floated through the air. Aro’s eyes narrowed at us, but with our present company I do not think he would try an attack. Especially since he did not know what side Giovanni was now on. He would no longer have a shield. I could feel the top of Bella’s shield open enough to let Jaiden in. Jaiden looked at us in shock and I could hear him thinking now. Leah was by his side now. Leah’s thoughts calmed down and she was now ready to fight. Wait, if Bella could lift Jaiden without the restraint of Giovanni’s shield, was he shielding anyone at this point? If he wasn’t why couldn’t I hear the Volturi’s thoughts? It must be Bella’s shield. It was so powerful that it block my ability to hear anyone outside it. Aro’s eyes were fixed on us all.
“How dare you come here!” He exclaimed to our visitors. Just then Giovanni left the Volturi’s side and casually walked to our side. Bella opened her shield enough to accommodate him. He walked over to our new allies and joined us with a grin on his face. We were unstoppable now and for the first time the Volturi had reason to fear someone else.

Bella’s POV

The visitors came through the door with grins on their faces. There were seven familiar faces and one new face, but from Giovanni’s letter, I knew who the new vampire was.
My shield now protected my family and friends. I was able to levitate Jaiden and bring him safely into my shield. The look on Aro’s face was picturesque. Then when Giovanni joined us, there was an enormous look of terror in every one of the Volturi’s faces.
“How dare you come here!” Aro exclaimed to our new friends.
“You dare to set foot here and expect to live!” Aro snapped with venom in his voice.
“I do not think you are at liberty to make such threats.” A new voice spoke up.
“Antanasia, we killed you long ago and took your empire.” Aro replied conceitedly.
“WE ARE THE AUTHORITY AND WE ARE THE ENFORCERS. YOU NO LONGER HAVE AUTHORITY!” Aro's voice had so much detestation in it.
“NO, ARO! You would like to think that you destroyed me along with my empire. I have been waiting for this moment and as soon as my brothers assured me it was possible, I prepared for the trip.” Antanasia replied. Her brothers nodded in agreement. Vladimir and Stefan were Antanasia brothers, I understood that, but who is she and why is she so threatening to Aro and the rest of the Volturi.
“She is the immortal one. Her name means to be reborn, immortality. She is one of the creators of our existence. One of the oldest vampiress that still walks today. Everyone thought that the Volturi destroyed her fifteen hundred years ago, but as we can see she has been waiting for her revenge.” Edward explained to me. Stefan and Vladimir were pleased with their surprise attack and revenge. Antanasia had a beauty about her, even though her skin had the same powdery look as the rest of the ancients. Her hair was long and dark brown. She was tall, unlike her brothers, and she was tone. Her eyes were burgundy and they shined with fierce intensity. She dressed in a floor length black gown that hugged all her curves. Garrett was there also, he ran to Kate and embraced her. Eleazar and Carmen also joined us. This made sense, because Eleazar would know how to get into the Volturi castle and Carmen would never let him go alone. Benjamin and Tia also accompanied the rest. I was surprised to see them, as I was sure that Amun was not too thrilled with the idea of him coming. We all stood fiercely looking at the Volturi. Emmett, out of nowhere, let out a roaring laugh.
“I got dibs on Felix and Demetri.” He laughed. Felix was still adjusting himself when he turned to meet Emmett’s gaze. Jane quivered. Did I see that correctly? Did she just quiver? I found pleasure in seeing her scared.
“What is the meaning of this dishonesty and disloyalty?” Aro barked at Giovanni.
“I have been with the Romanians for some time now. They actually sought me out after hearing the legends about me, but we all now myths are not true. Isn’t that correct Antanasia.” Giovanni alleged politely. Anatanasia laughed wildly and then kissed Giovanni very passionately. Everyone was surprised by that except Stefan and Vladimir.
“So what is your plan. Maybe we can come to a compromise! A proposition, perhaps.” Aro said with fear.
“What do you have Aro that I would want? Except your IMMORTALITY!” Anatanasia snapped at him. I looked at Edward and I thought ‘Does she have any powers?’ He nodded slightly, then proceeded to whisper to me.
“She has the power of rebirth. She cannot be killed. There was a myth that stated that she could be killed. In the myth, one would have to tear her apart, in very tiny pieces and take the pieces to different parts of the world and bury them. She cannot be burned. The Volturi did this, but obviously there are some myths that are not true.” Edward explained. Now I understood what Giovanni meant that there are some myths that just are not true.
“Oh, Aro that will never happen!” Alice declared out of nowhere.
“What? What will not happen?” Carlisle asked her. Alice stood very rigid. She was still having her vision. We waited patiently for her to answer the question.
“Alice, what are you seeing?” Jasper asked worried. Alice snapped out of it and glared at the Volturi.
“ He thinks he can bargain us for his safety. He thinks that we are his only way out. He wants Nessie and Jaiden to go with the Romanians, in exchange for their lives. Then he is going to destroy the rest of us.” Alice confirmed. Aro’s face turned downward.
I looked back at Giovanni and the Romanians wondering if they would take such a bargain. All eyes turned with me. Edward was intently staring them down.
“Interesting offer.” Anatanasia said like she was considering it. Was she considering trading us for their immortality. NO, she wouldn’t, she wanted her revenge too badly. I stared at Edward, ‘Read her mind.’ I insisted in my thoughts.
“I cannot. Giovanni is shielding her.” He said frantically. This couldn’t be happening twice in day. Now our lives were back on the line? I turned to Aro who looked pleased that she took so long to answer. Now what would we do?

Chapter 9

Edward’s POV

My long stare at Antanasis could have burned a h*** right through her. Was she actually considering this bargain? I would hope not and even Jaiden’s thoughts were the same. He could use his power to freeze time so we could do some damage to the others, but would he? Stefan and Vladimir were both smiling. I did not know if they were smiling at the thought of the bargain or because they knew Antanasia would refuse. Antanasia perplexed look worried me. Bella was starting to fidget. I knew that she was uncomfortable, not knowing what would be decided of our immortality. I felt meek and useless again. Nessie put her hand to Bella’s face and I could see the images flash before me. She was showing Bella her necklace with the locket. She was showing her the inscription that meant more then my own life. She was encouraging Bella to continue to fight and protect us all. Contemplating Aro’s offer very slowly, Antanasia looked at all of us. Her expressionless face was hard to read. Jasper’s thoughts came into my head. He was analyzing the best strategy for battle. Here we stood in the middle of the Volturi and the Romanians, with possible enemies on both sides of us. Alice was cursing herself for announcing Aro’s objectives out loud. She kept thinking that maybe if she had kept them to herself the outcome might be different. Maybe the future would have changed. Esme sighed with despair.
“Maybe, there is a better compromise.” Bella affirmed. Antanasia looked curiously at her. She bowed her head to her for her to speak.
“Maybe, we join your force and help you destroy the Volturi and you can keep their most powerful prized vampires for your empire. I mean I am sure that would be better then my daughter and another hybrid.” Bella spoke firmly. Antanasia seemed intrigued by this possibility as well. Stefan and Vladimir seemed enthused by the notion.
“I mean Jane has the ability to inflict pain and her brother, Alec, has the ability to incapacitate his victims. Demtri is a tracker and from what I have heard a very good one. Felix has brute strength. And furthermore, if you let us live, we could be of assistance to you when you need us.” Bella continued her plea. Antanasia eyes widened at Bella’s compromise.
“Plus, in the end we all get what we want, REVENGE!” Bella said this with such hate.
“Intriguing, I know that there are more talents and powers here, it would be worth our while to take you up on such an offer.” Antanasia stated confidently. Aro was trembling along with his brothers. Alec and Jane had horrified looks on their faces. Even Demetri seemed disturbed.
“We would honor that offer in exchange for our lives.” Carlisle confirmed for her.
“Why would you let them kill us, if you can utilize us later?” I asked.
“ My darling, they do have a very talented family. It would be a waste to see such talent go to waste.” Giovanni said, now trying to convince Antanasia also.
“Would all of you be willing to come to our aid when need be?” Antanasia asked looking at Benjamin, Tia, Garrett, and the Denali’s. They looked amongst themselves.
“If that meant that our friends would keep their lives and we would too, then yes, we agree.” Benjamin spoke for the whole group. Everyone shook their heads in agreement.
“This would be invaluable considering that we would have to build our empire once we took control back.” Antanasia stated. Aro was furious and a hiss rose from Caius chest.
“Would you consider, if need be, coming to Romania? If we asked?” Antanasia added.
We all looked at one another. This may be our only way to survive.
“Once, you no longer needed us would we be free to go?” Eleazar asked.
“Of course, if we need you to come for an extended period and after that you wished to leave, then yes.” Antanasia replied with sincerity. We talked amongst ourselves.
“Then yes, we would come and stay if you needed us.” Carlisle answered for us all. This part of the bargain bothered me. There was no telling if the Romanians could keep there word to us. I could hear Bella wondering the same thing and then she worried about Charlie.
“One condition though, the wolves would have to come too.” Bella requested. Antanasia sneered at her comment. Stefan and Vladimir smiled with appeasement. They were intrigued by the wolves and our relationship with the pack. They quickly told their sister that this would be a most exceptional offer. We all focused on Antanasia face. Would she accept our bargain? The Volturi grew restless, but no one was in the position to push matters. We waited for her reply.
“Well, all things considered.” She trailed off.......

Chapter 9 cont.

Jacob’s POV

These old leeches were starting to annoy me. Just give us an answer, you old hag, so I know if I need to prepare to fight! The anxiety in the room was insurmountable. The Volturi defiantly stared at us. They knew that at this point Antanasia could go with either bargain. I don’t know how I felt about having to move to Romania at their request. I would go anywhere that Nessie, Bella, and the Cullen’s went. ‘Oh would you just give us an answer!’ I was screaming in my head.
“Calm down Jake!” Edward said annoyed. I must have been too loud. Giovanni looked calm, but why wouldn’t he be, he was safe no matter what.
Leah’s thoughts entered my mind, ‘Leave it to Bella and the Cullen’s to get out of one predicament and right into another.’
I snapped at her in my mind, ‘But leave it to Bella to also save Jaiden for you!’
She bowed her, ‘Sorry Jake, I am grateful; it just wouldn’t be the same around here if someone wasn’t always trying to kill us.’ That was kind of the truth as of lately. I focused on Antanasia’s words as they were coming out of her mouth. I wasn’t the only one doing this either.

Bella’s POV

Hopefully, my proposition would be enticing for Antanasia to accept. Every word was truth, it was not plausible for her to accept Aro’s proposal and let us succumb at the Volturi’s hands. I had wondered what she was contemplating for so long. She looked at me to study my face and demeanor. Was she looking to me to see if I was trustworthy?
“Well, all things considered.” She said slowly. I now studied her face and listened to every word that followed.
“Your proposition, what is your name dear?” Antanasia asked me thoughtfully.
“Her name is Bella, my love.” Giovanni answered for me.
“Your proposition, Bella, does make for a good argument and would be most valuable to us.” She said smoothly. I could feel a “BUT” coming on.
“But, how do I know that with all the power your little family and friends have will not be used to revolt against us?” She asked with curiosity. I had to think quickly.
“Well, if you do take my daughter and Jaiden, and they kill us, who is to say that they will not come after you. Yes, you have Giovanni, but think of the force you can have if we join alliances. Plus, there would be no threat, because the Volturi would be no more. The only thing that any of us wants is to live peacefully. We are no threat to you. You have my word.” I stated very confidently. This was starting to feel like tug-of-war for our lives.
“I think most of the vampires here can witness for my family. We believe in integrity and will keep our promise.” Carlisle answered affirming me.
“So, we would need witnesses and who here will witness, as it is either in their favor or not?” Antanasia asked looking around the room. Alice faced turned blank, as it did when she was having a vision. Then she immediately grinned.
“I think someone should let our guests in.” She said happily. I looked at her guests we were all here, what is she talking about? Edward also had a smile on his face. He had seen her vision, but then who was I to doubt Alice.
“What guests? My child, we are all here!”Antanasia exclaimed.
“No, we are not! Our witnesses will be here in three-two-one….” Alice replied. Just as she said one, the door flung open and immediately a smile came across my face. Our witnesses were here, now if I could only get Antanasia to accept my proposal.

Chapter 9 cont.

Alice’s POV

It felt so good to see the future events, well as far as I could see. I wanted to take back what I had said about Aro’s bargain. I wished those words never came out of my mouth. Now I gave Antanasia something to consider, but so had Bella. I could see six figures walking down the hallway right outside the door. It was dark and could not make their faces out just yet. Then I saw the door being thrown open and I saw all their faces. Everyone waited impatiently for me to share my vision, except for Edward, who was now grinning along with me. I just wished that I could see further into the future, but Giovanni’s shield around Antanasia was somehow blocking my ability. I was not able to see more then just a few minutes into the future. Maybe it really was because Antanasia was undecided. I would think that she would want our help and revenge. When I announced our guests, Antanasia looked at me as if I was crazy. That was until the door swung wide open and in they entered.

Edward’s POV

I was pleased to see what Alice was seeing. This just might be what we need to survive this. There are our witnesses. The door flew open with force and in walked six more vampires. I could hear Eleazar thoughts about our guests. His thoughts went to tracking them down and asking them to come. He was the reason they were here.
“We are here to witness for the Cullen’s.” a small musical voice stated. Antanasia was taken back by our guests and the reason for their visit.
“And how do I know that you will tell the truth?” Antanasia asked politely. Our guest had a smile across her face.
Then she calmly replied, “because my gift is the gift of truth, I know when I am being lied to.” Maggie was very calm. Maggie was part of the Irish coven that stood as our witnesses in the field three months ago. Her gift was never disputed. Siobhan and Liam stood right behind her. Next to them were the Amazons, Zafrina, Senna, and Kachiri.
“How did you know that we would need witnesses, Eleazar?” I asked him quietly.
“I thought it was better to be safe then sorry. You never know what to expect when it comes to the Voturi and I wasn’t sure if I should trust the Romanians.” Eleazar stated assured of his decision. I was glad that he thought of bringing witnesses.
“So you have a gift that allows you to know truth. Let us test it, if you do not mind!” Antanasia said.
“That is fine. How would you like to test it?” Maggie asked curiously.
“I will ask you two questions, only one will be true. My brothers are the only ones here that know the one that is true and since Giovanni is shielding me, no one can read my mind.” Antanasia answered her.
“Only you may answer these questions!” She then added.
“Of course, I see no problem with this.” Maggie replied.
“Giovanni, shield this young one as well, so she may use her gift.” Antanasia instructed Giovanni.
“As you wish, my love.” Giovanni replied to her. Instantly, I lost Maggie’s thoughts.
“My first question, Is it true that I am the oldest Vampiress still in existence? Or is my second question true, Do we have another immortal sister that no vampire knows about?”
Maggie stood for a brief second before answering Antanasia.
“The second question is the truth. Since the second question is the truth, I would guess that is why you are not the oldest Vampiress still in existence. Your sister is older then you.” Maggie declared this with such confidence, it was overwhelming. Antanasia, Stefan, and Vladimir stood in shock from Maggie’s answer.
“You are right, young one! Our sister is Rodika. Amazing!” Antanasia answered enthused. Rodika, I had heard that name before, but never before did I know she was a Romanian. Aro looked as shocked as the rest of us did.
“Rodika, is not your sister. I would know such things!” Aro snapped.
“No, you would not Aro. My sister left us even before your existence. There are stories of her, but she has never told anyone from where or who she came. She is a wanderer and choose to live life alone. She believes her immortality to be a curse and thinks that she should wander around without any companionship. It is very disturbing. Especially, since she is the rightful Queen of our immortality. She is older then I.” Antanasia explained.
“Alistair, has talked to me of your sister. He has met her. He also wanders alone.” Carlisle spoke. I know wondered if Antanasia would accept our bargain. Maggie had confirmed that she could see truth, now what would Antanasia want. We were about to find out!

Chapter 10

Giovanni’s POV

I felt responsible for the Cullen’s. My only intention is to save they. The Volturi plotted to kill them regardless. They were doomed to be ripped to pieces and burned. Antanasia was seeking revenge, so why would she delay this verdict? I had it on good authority, when I sent word that the Volturi were moving against the Cullen’s that we would save them. What was Antanasia thinking? I knew I had to be delicate with this matter. I knew I had to convince her slowly that they would not threaten us. Hopefully, there witnesses would be enough. I found the Cullen’s fascinating. I did not trust Aro, Caius, and Marcus. They felt threatened by the amount of witnesses that the Cullen’s managed to gather in their last conflict. That was the whole purpose they were here now. The Volturi felt challenged. Aro really did want Bella’s daughter and Jaiden to be mates. He only imagined the power that their child might be capable of.
“My love, I think that the Cullen’s would be good allies. I truly believe that they just want to live in peace.” I whispered to her. As I quickly informed her of my opinion, all ears strained to hear my hushed tones.
“Hmmm, I do suppose that is true, but will they revolt against us later. That is my only fear. You know as well as I do, if Bella develops her shield and strengths any further, she will be unstoppable. Just like you, my dear. She has only just begun to discover a modest amount of what her power entails.” Antanasia whispered back to me. I understood her hesitance, when the Volturi came to wipe out the Romanians, it was devastating for them.

“I do not see them as a threat. Look at the bonds that they have developed with vampires that are not in their coven. Clearly, everyone of them would lay their immortality down for them. Maybe if we treat them as family, they will welcome us into theirs. Then we would have nothing to fear.” I replied softly. “Besides the threat here is the Volturi and if we could acquire some of their guard that would be fantastic. There is a lot of power in the guard.” I added softly. I played on the loathe that she had for the Volturi, hoping it would work.
“You do make valid points, my dear.” Antanasia replied. She turned to Stefan and Vladimir and talked quietly and so quickly that I could not even hear what they were saying. They all nodded in agreement.
“Well, we have a proposition for your family.” She said with a smug grin. She glanced at Aro and met his blazing stare.
“You would bargain with them. We are much more valuable to you.” Aro snapped.
“Aro, did you bargain with us when you came with destruction? No, you did not! The only reason you care to bargain now is because you fear to burn.” She snapped back at him with intense anger.
“Would you care to hear our proposition, my dear Bella?” Antanasia asked with kindness.
“Y-Yes.” Bella replied hurriedly. Antanasia glanced back at Stefan and Vladimir and they nodded towards her with approval.

Bella’s POV

What would her proposition be? Would she be outrageous in her demands? I almost did not care I just wanted to save my family. Why was she addressing me as the head of the family? Maybe because she was the head of her family.
“You have given me much to consider, Bella. The reason for my hesitation is I fear revolt from your family. I do not want to wonder if we have to fear your powerful family.” Antanasia told me calmly.
“You would not have to fear us, I promise. We just want to be left alone to live peacefully.” I replied to her.
“I understand that my dear, but do you know the extent of your power? You are young and with minimal instruction, you were able to throw your shield. There is so much that you do not know about your talent, but if you were trained, you could become very powerful.” She told me very cautiously. I felt afraid of my own abilities at that point. How much more was there that I did not know about my power.
“Well, my dear, there is much to discuss, but our first task at hand will be to get rid of the low, vile vampires before us. We will take prisoners of those with a talent and destroy the rest.” She said with rejoice in her voice. Then her eyes widened. “ Your first task, my dear, will be that you will have the honor of helping me destroy Aro, Caius, and Marcus.” She shrilled this loudly.
“Me…well..I ..have never destroyed one of our own yet, Antanasia.” I said so surprised.
“Well, dear, here is the time to learn how. I have a feeling that you would love to inflict as much torture on them for threatening your family, as I want to for their offense fifteen hundred years ago.” She stated. I thought about it I was always a gentle soul. That was a quality that Edward loved best about me. As I thought about the Volturi trying to hurt all of us, rage filled my mind and an enormous hiss crept up my throat. It filled the room. I scared myself at this point, but I stayed focused. My eyes were on Aro. He was going to pay for everything he put us through. He hissed back at me and crouched.
“YOU ARE RIGHT ANTANASIA!” I blared loudly. Edward looked at me surprised. Emmett back away and let me up front. Hisses and howls filled the room. Jake and Leah were by my side. I gave Renesmee to Esme.
“COVER HER EYES, PLEASE!” I demanded. Esme nodded and covered Renesmee with her body.
“TODAY, VOLTURI, YOU WILL ALL FEEL WHAT IT IS LIKE TO FEAR AND BURN!” I yelled.
“NOT WITHOUT A FIGHT!” Aro hissed at me. In that instance, I launched myself across the room. I did not want to smash him with my shield. I wanted to rip his head off with my own hands. I could hear Antanasia laughing with enjoyment. This was it. The battle for our lives had just begun!

Esme's POV

Bella handed Nessie to me. Her eyes looked like a wild fire ready to explode at any minute. I graciously took Nessie from her grasp. I had never seen Bella so enraged, she was consumed with hatred. Bella has always been mildly tempered, even as a newborn vampire. Even that day in the field could not compare to the animosity that radiated from her body. She demanded that I cover Nessie’s eyes. I wrapped my tiny body around Nessie to shield her. Her tiny hand made its way to my face and just as if someone had pushed fast forward, I could see all these images of our whole family. They were racing through my mind. I could hear Nessie’s heart rate and breathing increase. She was afraid.
“Nessie, Nessie, it will be okay. Mommy will be okay." I assured her my soothing voice. Then she played an image of what Bella looked like right before she handed me Nessie. Nessie shuddered with fear.
“Nessie, mommy will be okay. She is fighting for us.”I tried to soothe her. Her breathing slowed and so did her heart rate. I held her and I could feel Bella’s shield still shrouded around us like a hovering force. Bella scared Nessie as much as she had startled the rest of us. The Romanians were laughing in utter gratification. I could feel Carlisle, his back was to mine. He was getting a firsthand view of our little Bella’s vehemence. Then I heard what sounded like a car striking a brick wall. I did not want to turn around. I kept my gaze turned down on Nessie. The room was in an uproar. Carlisle gasped at the sound. I wanted to look to make sure Bella was okay, but I did not. Then I heard her shout.
“START A FIRE; THIS LOATHSOME CREATURE WILL DIE TODAY.” Bella demanded. I felt Emmett, Jasper, and Rosalie whip past me in such a hurry. I looked up briefly and I met Antanasia’s eyes. I was disappointed that she would use Bella’s fury to get her revenge. Who knew what her plan was for us after she had what she wanted?

Edward’s POV

I was frozen. I couldn’t move as much as I wanted to. Bella’s fury was so intense; it filled the room like a smothering cloud. I have never seen my beloved so full of hate. I knew that Bella hated the Volturi; none of us liked them after that day in the field. Bella took it to a new level of hatred. She was so engulfed and consumed by her fury; I do not think anything could stop her now. Yes, she was an unstoppable force. Antanasia knew that she would be. She knew that Bella would lose her grip and be consumed by the hatred in order to defend us. I think that Antanasia counted on that fact. Wouldn’t she have gotten more pleasure out of destroying the Volturi herself? I wondered if that is how I looked to Bella when I attacked James. I had felt that much hatred for him. Before I knew it, Aro had challenged Bella and she lunged herself forward towards him. They collided with such force in midair and were hard to watch. Aro and Bella flew outward from one another. Then in less than a second, they were back on their feet ready to attack again.
“Bella, you may be stronger then I am, but you will never outfight me!” Aro hissed. I heard Bella yell for us to start the fire. Emmett, Jasper, and Rosalie were pulling the wooden doors off to start the fire. Jake and Leah were snapping and growling at the rest of the guard, pushing them further and further back.
Jane’s eyes stared at Jake, trying to inflict pain, but he was still being shielded. I look at her and narrowed my eyes at her. I remembered the time that she tried to inflict pain on Bella, when she was human. I remembered the time in the field. Now the detest I had for her was filling my mind and before I knew it, I had her by her throat against the wall. As I pressed my palm down, I could feel her neck start to slowly crack. She whimpered in pain. Bella turned as she saw Alec ready to attack me. She moved one finger and he was across the room and smashing into a wall. He moaned in pain. Her eyes back on Aro. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone move very quickly. It was Felix. Emmett caught his movement too and was now on top of Felix. The room was filled with the sounds of our hisses, growls, and snarling. Even louder than that, were the sounds of us colliding with the Volturi.
“Stop, Edward do not kill her.” Giovanni ordered me. “Put her down, she is valuable to us.” He added. I was so enwrapped in my hate for Jane that I squeezed harder for a brief second, just to hear her whimper one last time.
“Edward, stop now!” Carlisle shouted to me. His voice broke my concentration and I put Jane down. She collapsed holding her neck. Alec was by her side. I was sure he was making sure that she was not in pain.
The room became quiet. Emmett held Felix down. The only battle that was still ensuing was the battle between Bella and Aro. Antanasia spoke over them.
“Those of the Volturi guard that value their immortality, you have a chance right now to join us. Those that do not will be destroyed.” She said calmly. This broke Aro’s concentration, as he saw members of his guard switch sides.
“Master..I.” Jane managed to squeal before her and Alec joined the Romanians.
“Bella, my dear, you have done well. Come back and join us, you will enjoy this next part.” Antanasia alleged. Bella did not calm so easy. She was infuriated. It was as if a floodgate had been opened. I walked over to her. I touched her arm ever so slightly. Her stares now turned to me. Her hisses still were pouring out from between her cherry colored lips.
“Bella, my love, please!” I begged her. She stopped just as quickly as she started. She fell into my arms. I wrapped my arms around her and walked her back by the family. On the other side of the room, there stood Aro, Caius, Marcus, their wives, Demetri, and few more of the guard.
“Bella, dear, do you feel better?” Antanasia asked her with a grin.
“Yes, I do.” She replied.
“Demetri, you choose to die?” Antanasia asked him curiously.
“I do not intend to betray my masters. Not even for my own immortality.” He barked at her.
“Very well, Bella, I think you will enjoy this.” Antanasia sanctimoniously declared to her.
“I think all of the Cullen’s will enjoy this.” She continued. I could hear Carlisle. He did not enjoy this at all. He rejected violence or the destruction of anything. We waited patiently for Antanasia to tell us what it was that we were going to enjoy

Bella’s POV

The indignation I felt washed over my body like a black cloud. There was a surge that overwhelmed my body. It almost felt as if I had adrenaline pumping through my cold, hardened veins, but I knew that was not possible. I catapulted myself at Aro with such malevolence, I truly felt like a monster. I was no longer Edward’s ravishing wife, I was a savage beast. Aro launched himself through the air at the same time I did. We clashed in midair. We sounded like to trains colliding with one another. It stung as bad as it sounded. I was thrown in the opposite direction from Aro. In a millisecond, I was back to my feet hissing him. I ordered for a fire to be started. Then I could see Edward, he had Jane by her neck. Slowly crushing her, as she whimpered in pain. Alec was going to her aid and with the flick of my finger I sent him flying into a wall. My shield was stretched in every direction possible. Emmett had Felix on the ground, pinned down. It wasn’t until Edward touched my arm and spoke to me that I realized that Antanasia had called for me to stop.
I fell into Edward’s arms. I have never, even in my human existence, felt that much resentment. Certainly, this was a first for me. Carlisle examined my face as Edward brought me back to our family. I felt ashamed for my outburst. The Cullen’s have never known me to be anything but selfless, now I was sure they thought of me as a monstrosity.
“Nobody thinks that Bella.” Edward whispered softly in my ear. “They are just shocked that you exploded now and not when you were first a newborn.” He added. I then noticed that half of the Volturi guard stood on our side. Antanasia asked if I felt better. I hung my head as I replied. Then she announced very callously that we were going to enjoy what she had in store for the Volturi. I was wondering what she had in store for us. What would happen to us?
“Aro, who is your pet among the guard?” Antanasia asked him viciously.
“Why should I answer you? If you plan to destroy us, then get it over with.” Aro snapped back at her. Demetri and about five more of the Voturi refused to switch sides. Their wives stood behind them shuddering with fear.
“I see all of your beautiful wives are here.” Antansia laughed. Caius was hissing.
“Aro is that Dulcia behind you? Dulcia, come forward!” Antanasia demanded. Aro pushed his wife further behind him.
“Dulcia come forth now!” Antanasia demanded again. Dulcia managed her way around Aro, she left the other wives side. She had jet black hair and a slightly dark complexion. She was short, but petite.
“Dulcia, do you remember my husband? Do you remember what Aro did to him some fifteen hundred years ago?” Antanasia asked politely.
“Y-y-y-es.” This tiny voice crept out of Dulcia’s mouth. “I remember Constantin and yes, I remember what fate befell him at Aro’s hands.” she added softly.
“Good, I wanted to make sure that you remembered how your husband tortured mine!” Antanasia replied with malice in her voice.
“Jane, my dear, inflict pain on Dulcia until I say stop!” Antanasia ordered. Jane hesitated not knowing what to do. She looked at Aro, who stared down his nose at her.
“B-b-ut,” Jane was cut off before another word could come out of her mouth.
“But, but? There is no “but” my dear, either you do as I command or you can join them to die!” Antanasia barked at her. Jane looked at Alec with pain in her face. I wondered if she was somehow telling him to make sure Dulcia did not suffer too much.
“ As a matter-of-fact, all of the Volturi guard that has joined us, will help destroy the others. That is especially true for Aro, Caius, Marcus, and their wives. You will help me on my terms, and obey me or be destroyed!” Antanasia announced very clearly. Jane eyes turned up at Dulcia. Dulcia cringed as she waited for the torture to begin. We all stood and waited for it as well.

Chapter 10 cont.

Bella’s POV

Jane’s intense eyes focused on Dulcia. Immediately, Dulcia’s face contorted with agony. Her petite body was abruptly on the floor, constricted in pain. Aro was hissing and sobbing tearlessly.
“Please, please, no! Anything, but this Antanasia!” He begged as he fell to the floor lifelessly. I had to admit seeing him helpless was pretty pleasurable. A human memory came rushing back out of nowhere. I had a memory of this exact pain being inflicted on Edward, when he tried to jump in front of me to block Jane from inflicting pain on me.
“Anything Aro, really?” Antanasia laughed. She was indulging in her trysts.
“When I begging you to spare Constantin, what did you tell me Aro?” She asked him.
“I told you, I told you NEVER!” Aro remembered with remorse. Sure he was remorseful while his life was on the line, but he wouldn’t be if he had a chance to escape.
“You laughed at me Aro. And then you slowly tortured him in front of me. You did not value my mate's life nor mine, why should I give yours a second thought.” She roared at him.
“Jane, stop!” Aro screamed with an ear piercing ringing in his voice. That sound was his own misery.
“Yes, Jane do stop! That is enough, but stay close I will need you soon!” Antanasia instructed her.
“Yes master.” Jane solemnly replied. Wow that was quick. Jane already conformed to calling Antanasia master. Antanasia eyes scanned the room.
“Felix, come forth.” Antanasia ordered him. Emmett let go of Felix and he walked over to Antanasia.
“Do you wish to live?” Antanasia asked him. He glared at her with hate.
“Yes, I wish to live!” He replied
“Good, then I want you to SLOWLY break Dulcia’s fingers off one by one!” As she commanded him, she made sure to stress the word slowly. Dulcia lay on the floor still trying to recuperate from Jane’s attack. She looked up with pleading eyes. Aro was by her side trying to console her. Dulcia looked up to him and whispered.
“I love you. Please end this for me. Do not let them torture me any longer!” She pleaded with him. I gasped at the request. I would never be able to end Edward’s life. This was becoming unbearable, but this was not my revenge. This was Antansia’s revenge. As much hate that I displayed for the Volturi, I still would not torture them! I would do it quickly and swiftly. That is how I would want my immortality to end. Maybe I did understand Dulcia’s request then. Then again, if Aro had slowly tortured Edward before killing him, I was certain that I would torture Aro also. All these thoughts were running through my mind. I did not want to look at this intolerable display of cruelty. I wanted to bury my face in my hands, but I knew that would show my weakness. Carlisle was compassionate, so I knew this was as unbearable for him to watch as it was for me. Just then I felt Edward pull me to his chest and put my face in it.
“Bella, you are benevolent. That is a quality that remained with you during your transformation. It is a quality I love the most about you.” He whispered in my ear.
“I love you, Edward.” I stammered.
“I love you too, Bella.” He assured me.
“You will not take her immortality Aro. This will not be easy on any of you.” Antanasia snapped at Dulcia’s request. We could hear Aro pleading with Dulcia.
“I cannot, my love. But I cannot see you tortured either.” Aro beseeched. He turned to Caius.
“Caius, please.” He looked to his brother and begged.

EMMETT’S POV

Bella was fuming with anger. All I could think was it is about time. Seeing her fling Felix through the air and watching him smash into wall after wall, was probably better then hunting grizzly bears. When Bella lost it and challenged Aro, I couldn’t help but think ‘thankful I trained her well.’ Damn, should have bet Jasper on this one. Edward looked over at me and gave me a scowl. Then out of nowhere Bella was like a monkey flying at Aro. They smashed into one another with such force, that it hurt me. There was my resilient sister-in-law back on her feet again in a second flat. I thought so Edward could hear me, ‘I taught her well. Your wife is hot right now.’ Edward was not amused by the thrill I was getting out seeing Bella lose it. Then out of nowhere she yelled at us to start the fire. Jasper, Rosalie, and me ran to the wood doors. We pulled them off the hinges for firewood.
“And they think I am married to the psychotic one.” I laughed telling Jasper.
“Twenty bucks on Bella.” I told him laughing some more.
“No way am I taking that bet, did you see her.” Jasper said to me
“Yeah, its like she’s on speed.” I was totally amused by this. I loved the fact that we were getting a little action on the Volturi, even if it wasn’t me fighting.
“Emmett, you need to stop that. This is not a time to be joking.” Rose scolded me. I laughed harder. Then out of the corner of my eye I could see that Edward was choking Jane. That little brats feet were dangling in the air and she was whimpering in pain.
Gosh, when was I gonna get some action. I had to say I was a little jealous. I wanted to pound one of the Volturi too. Then before I could finish my thought, I could see Felix heading for Bella. ‘Oh no you don’t.’ I thought. Then at full force, I rushed him. I blindsided him and who says that watching football doesn’t pay off! I had him pinned to the ground. It gave me such pleasure to hear his arms cracking.
“Bet you didn’t think that my sister-in-law, could take you. Huh.” I laughed at him.
“You think she will defeat Aro. You are crazy.” Felix screamed at me.
“I bet you twenty bucks, she takes Aro.” I grinned at him. I had to find someone sucker enough to take the bet. Just then Antanasia called for all the Volturi guard that wanted to live to come join her.
“So where do you want to go Felix. Looks like your boy Demetri, is giving up his immortality. Too bad, what will you do without your mate.” I hysterically laughed at him.
“Very funny, but if you must know I will join Antanasia. I am not going to give up my life for theirs. Demetri is a fool.” He replied to me. He was trying to loosen my grip, but with each struggle, his arms were snapping from the pressure.
“Well, since your on our side now, maybe you should take me up on that bet. I have a feeling we have a lot more to see from Bella.” I smugly replied to him. I saw Edward drop Jane to the floor. Antanasia was requesting Bella to stop. What was she crazy? She was the reason Bella snapped in the first place and now she wanted her to stop! Edward went to Bella, he was the only one now that could calm her. As he brought her back I thought to myself, 'Hey Edward, now that your wife has discovered that she is insanely strong, we had better build you another house just as back up.' I saw a slight smile creep from the side of his mouth.

Edward’s POV

Dulcia was pleading for Aro to end her life. So funny to say that word, “life,” for all of us our lives were over many years ago, but our immortal lives were what we were all fighting for. To hear her beg, unbearable. I knew Bella felt the same way, she was thinking it. I could never take anything from Bella. Taking her human life to save her was hard enough, but given the circumstances, I would do it the same all over again. I would never be able to take her immortality. I felt a wave of sympathy wash over me for Aro. It was hard to imagine, but it was there. I would not want to be in his position now. Antanasia warned Aro not to take Dulcia's immortality. Maybe for her this was justice. I could not imagine the feeling that would overwhelm me to see Bella slowly tortured in front of me. Aro told Dulcia he could not take her immortality, but he also could not see her tortured. Aro turned to Caius and pleaded for him to end Dulcia’s immortality. Caius’ eyes were full of horror and grief by his brother’s request.
“I cannot end Dulcia’s life! I could never brother!” Caius replied to him.
“Please help me brother! I cannot stand to watch her tortured!” He confessed.
“If you help him Caius, Aurelia’s destruction will be much slower and much more painful!” Antanasia interjected. Caius lowered his head at her words. Aro looked like a desperate human man at this point. There was nothing but desperation on his face. This was definitely not a look of such a powerful leader.
“Demetri, help me!” Aro pleaded for Demetri’s help now. Demetri was taken back, but in an instance was at Aro’s side.
“I will help Dulcia, master.” He replied quietly.
“Stop him now, Bella.” Antanasia commanded Bella. Bella was in shock. Why was she being brought into this? She had decided that she would never torture the Volturi this way. She was locked in my embrace. She looked up into my eyes. I could hear her pleading not to be involved.
“Did you not pledge your alliance to us?” Antanasia asked callously.
“Yes, I did! I will honor my promise for the sake of my family.” Bella replied back to her. In a twist of Bella’s hand Demetri was now across the room. He was being held back by Bella’s shield. Bella hung her head in shame.
“My love, do not think about it! Focus on our family and their safety.” I whispered to her. Carlisle was now standing by me. He touched Bella’s arm to comfort her. He knew that was hard for her. Torture was never easy for anyone. Carlisle kept wishing for this just to pass and be over. Esme was still covering Nessie, trying to obstruct her view from any sight of this cruel torment. Alice and Jasper were in shock. Emmett, of course, found pleasure in this. He had such a morbid sense of humor. Rosalie was wondering if Emmett would be able to take her immortality. Jake was conflicted as I was. He did not find pleasure in tormenting the Volturi. He just wanted it to be over with. Jaiden stood next to Leah’s wolf form stroking her neck gently. He could not wait for this to be over, so he could steal a kiss from her lips. Leah was mortified by Dulcia’s request and Aro’s actions. Tanya, Kate, Garrett, Eleazar, and Carmen hovered closely to us wishing that it would soon be over. Eleazar had a feeling that this was just the beginning. I looked at him and nodded in agreement. Zafrina was thinking maybe she could use her allusions to make this less painful for Dulcia and Aro. Although, she had distaste for the Volturi, she also had not wished suffering. Siobhan was thinking to herself, hoping that we would all make it out alive. Everyone’s thoughts were very hard to hear. I was hearing pain, confliction, remorse, hopelessness, sadness, anxiety, and many more, all at the same time. I was also sympathizing myself.
“Felix, now!” Antanasia ordered him once again. He slowly walked over to Dulcia and looked down to her. He was full of anguish as well. Then I heard a snap and Dulcia cried out in pain. Aro launched himself at Felix. Felix welcomed the blow from Aro. Whatever slowed down what he had to do to Dulcia, he welcomed it.
“Jane, inflict pain on Aro!” Antanasia instructed. Jane’s eyes slowly gazed up to meet Aro’s, looking at her in horror.
“Yes, master.” She whispered despondently. She would not hurt Aro. She was his pet. At least that is what I thought.

Chapter 11

Alice’s POV

I couldn’t bear to watch even the Volturi be tortured. We had such a compassionate and loving family, I doubt any of us could stand to watch it. I take that back, I bet Emmett was amused. I peeked around Jasper to see Emmett’s face. Yep, I was right! Emmett had a look of merriment on his face. He was like a kid in a candy store with an obscene amount of money. He was getting a little bit too much entertainment from this. He stood there with his arms across his massive chest. He looked like he was a coach watching his players. I frowned at him.
“What Alice?” He asked laughing like he had no clue. Just then, out of nowhere, came a vision. I could see we were exiting the castle. It was all of us, family and friends. Antanasia, Giovanni, Stefan, Vladimir, and the Volturi that decided to join us were there also. Antanasia took Bella’s hand and then…. As quickly as, it came the vision was gone. Maybe Giovanni had let up on his shield around Antanasia, and that is why I could see the vision. I looked to Edward. He stared at me as a broad smile came across his face. He whispered to Bella, who still had Demetri up against the wall with her shield, and then he turned back to look at me. Jasper was intently looking at me too. He knew that I had a vision.
“What did you see Alice?” He asked me anxiously. I pulled him closer so that I could whisper to him.
“I saw us all leaving, with the Romanians, and the Volturi guard. We were all walking outside to leave and Antanasia took Bella’s hand to say something to her, but then the vision ended.” I whispered very quietly.
“How did you see it Alice, if Giovanni is shielding her?” He asked confused.
“I don’t know. Maybe he let his shield down for a second.” I replied to him still whispering.
“Or maybe you found a h*** in his shield.” Jasper replied to me. Could it be? A look of surprise crossed my face and Edward’s at the same time. Had I been around Giovanni long enough to find a h*** in his shield? Just then my thought was interrupted by a loud shriek of pain.

Jasper’s POV

When Bella let herself become that enraged, I was so shocked. She was always so calm, even as a newborn. That bothered me so much. Here I had been a vampire for a century and a half and still had a hard time controlling my thirst, she just becomes a vampire and is in total control. I was disappointed in myself, but when she lost it, I thought ‘now that is what I was waiting for.’ It was as if she took all her rage that she should have displayed as a newborn and channeled it all onto Aro. I was very shocked to see that. Here I thought Rose was crazy, Bella definitely topped her. And Emmett, did he really think I would bet against Bella? I had to give it to Bella as soon as Edward spoke, she calmed down. They were each other’s ying and yang. Two opposites that had to exist to keep the other calm and stable. Alice’s vision gave me hope that this would not go on much longer. As many battles I have fought, I still did not like the torturing of other immortals. Maybe I was starting to think like a Cullen. Edward looked up at me and smiled approvingly. That shriek of pain was awful. It rang in our ear like a bull horn.
I noticed Jane and then realized that Aro’s body was on the floor twisted. The cry came from him.
“Felix, pick yourself up and finish what you have started.” Antanasia commanded him. Felix slowly picked himself up from the ground and walked over to Dulcia.
“Felix, please just end my life. I beg of you, do not torture me so.” Dulcia pleaded.
“Felix, NOW!” Antanasia demanded. The suffering and the torment was the most merciless thing I have witnessed and I have seen cruel in my immortal life. Another snapped and Dulcia’s left forefinger was gone. She moaned and screamed in agony. Felix turned his head from her.
“Please, Felix, please.” She begged.
“More Felix. Jane release Aro.” Antanasia instructed her. I felt like a helpless witness. I wondered who Antanasia would choose next to be tormented. I wondered if there was a logic to her cruel ways. I would find out soon enough!

Jacob’s POV

I don’t think I have ever seen Bella that infuriated before. Not even when I imprinted on Nessie was she that furious. I was even a little scared of her. Leah found that hysterically, then she was saying ‘all you boys always underestimate us girls.’ I laughed at that comment, ‘actually Leah, I wouldn’t put anything past you.’ She wasn’t impressed that I found amusement at her expense. Esme had Nessie, but I needed to be by her. I yearned for that closeness to ease my conscience. I proceeded over to Esme when Antanasia started to punish Aro’s wife. Her screams of turmoil filled the room. I was standing next to Esme and Nessie. Esme covered Nessie with her body, her back was to the horrific scene that was occurring. Dulcia was begging for Aro to kill her. Aro was degraded to a sulking fool. He cried out for his brother or Demetri to end his wife’s life. Only Demetri accepted, but when he did Antanasia insisted that Bella use her shield on Demetri. Bella did not seem as willing to help as she had before. I looked to Edward and he was comforting Bella. Was she ashamed of her actions or could she not bear to witness such indecency. Just then I felt Nessie hands making it way up my fur and to my face. She replayed the look on Bella’s face before she attacked Aro.
“She was scared.” Esme told me. I looked up to see Edward now glance in my direction. He must have seen what Nessie was showing me. There was another shriek of pain and then another. With each shriek, Nessie cringed. ‘Edward maybe we could ask Antanasia if Esme could take Nessie out of here. She's scared.’ I thought so that he could hear me. He looked down and whispered something to Bella. Bella and Edward were at our sides in no time. There was another scream in the room. Bella knelt down in front of Nessie, who was now covering her eyes.
“Nessie, honey looking at mommy.” Bella said in a composed tone. Nessie looked up. She studied Bella’s face and wrapped her arms around her neck.
“I am sorry that I scared you Nessie.” Bella whispered to her. Edward glided so effortlessly over to Antanasia.
“Antanasia, may my mother and wolf friend take my daughter out of the room? This is frightening her.” Edward asked her politely. Antanasia looked at Edward upset that he broke her concentration on the torture that was being administered.
“You may take the child outside in the hallway, but only one can go with and it may not be Bella. I need her here.” Antanasia stated firmly. What did she need Bella for? The same confused look crossed Edward’s face. What was it that she had in store for Bella?
“Jake, you take Nessie and protect her.” Edward said to me relieved that she could leave. Why did he choose me? Was this just in case, so I could escape with Nessie? Edward nodded towards me. ‘Alright, but you had better watch out for Leah.’ I thought.
‘Jake, I will be fine. Go get Nessie out of here!’ Leah told me. Bella put Nessie on my back, she looked deep into my eyes.
“Remember, you’re my best friend!” She whispered to me. ”And I love you more than my own life.” She said to Nessie, stroking her cheek. I was out the door with Nessie on my back, but not before one last scream filled the room.

Leah’s POV

Jake took Nessie and ran out of the room. Jaiden looked down at me confused. I wanted to transform back into my human form, but I phased ripping my pretty yellow dress to pieces. I am sure that agitated Alice. She was probably thinking, I just get wolf girl looking decent and look what she does. I giggled to myself, but then I heard Jake laughing in my head with me. ‘Focus, he told me. I plan on going back to La Push with you.’ He scolded me with a assertive tone. I looked up to find Jaiden staring at me with such fanaticism. I wanted to wrap my arms around him and feel the passion between us take us into chimera. I imagined his lips touching mine so slowly. I could almost feel him tracing my lips with his tongue. ‘STOP IT NOW.’ Jake was not pleased with my lack of focus on the current threat at hand. I couldn’t help that I just imprinted. ‘I am trying, Jake.’ I snapped in my thoughts. ‘I could be thinking about something else.’ I continued. ‘PLEASE DON’T!’ He insisted. ’Don’t make me go Alpha on you.’ He added. I laughed at his reply. Just then I was distracted by the really ancient leech.
“Felix, enough with the fingers. Rip her legs and arms off and put them in the fire. Leave her torso lying on the ground for now.” She demanded. Felix was so hesitant, looking at Aro, it sounded like he apologized to him. Then he turned to Dulcia.
“Dulcia, I am so sorry.” He told her as he ripped her left leg off. Dulcia wailed in anguish. Her face was disfigured with the pain.
“Alec, take Dulcia’s legs and arms and put them into the fire.” Antanasia ordered him. By time it was finished, Dulcia’s limbs were burning in the blaze in front of us. Her torso with her head still intact lay on the floor. She was moaning and sobbing. Aro recovered from Jane’s attack and was now beside her gently kissing her face.
“Aurelia, come here.” Antanasia persisted. Caius let out a hiss and growled.
“Felix, contain Caius.” Antanasia continued with the orders. She was on a power trip.
“Aurelia, my dear friend, how have you been?” She asked Aurelia. Dear friend? What in the world did she possibly mean by that? They were once friends.

Carlisle’s POV

Suffering of humankind or immortals never sat well with me. Oppression was never anything I would press upon any creature. Dulcia’s screams were vociferous. My only concern was to save my family and friends. I pondered on my thoughts of what could possibly be worse then this. Even if Aro did intend to destroy us, I would have never acted as deplorable as Antanasia. However, I only heard brief discussions of when the Volturi destroyed the Romanians. Her plight might be great. This was her retribution and I had no control. If we were to save everyone, we would have to obey. And Bella, she seemed to be abashed by her behavior. I know that she had all of our interest at heart. I saw a lot of the qualities I exhibited as a human in her before her transformation. They even carried with her into immortality. I joined Esme as Jake took Nessie out of the room. This was not anything for Nessie to see, even though she was half-vampire, she is also half-human. I am sure nightmares would follow her. Then I heard Antanasia call Aurelia. Aurelia was always very statuesque, very refined. She complemented Caius. I turned to see Aurelia come forth. “Aurelia, my dear friend, how have you been?” Antanasia asked her. I was as confused as everyone else.
“I am well, but you confuse me Antanasia!” Aurelia stated very calmly. She kept her integrity, she was not about to show fear.
“What would that be?” Antanasia asked her very inquisitively .
“The last time I saw you Antanasia, you called me sister. Now I am only a dear friend, what happen.” Aurelia boasted loudly. Antanasia’s eyes were amplified with rage, as was her face.
“You dear speak those words to me. You let me plead to your conscience for your brother’s life. You let your husband and his brothers kill your own brother. You stared into my eyes as I watched them slowly tear Constantin apart and burn him. You never once objected on your brother’s half. No, Why? You were consumed with power. Then you let them tear me into pieces! You now ask why I no longer call you sister?” Antanasia was exacerbated by Aurelia’s question. We were all in shock, Constantin was Aurelia’s brother.
