Are you a fan of the movie? why or why not? How many times have you seen it?
In 2009, I finally succumbed to my 10 year old Sons constant pleading for him to be able to see a movie called Twilight. He found it neatly wrapped, waiting for him, under our Christmas tree. (You will notice this is the same time New Moon was in cinemas). Not being able to wait any longer, he was allowed to watch it after lunch. At the time, Twilight was something I had avoided, mainly due to its comparison to the Harry Potter series, which I did not like at all. We started watching and my first thoughts were, ‘Well, it’s better than high School Musical, but what else can I be doing…??’ Needless to say, I didn’t pay much attention to it and left him to watch it in peace. A few days later, I decided I should really try a bit harder to watch this movie right through, mainly so I knew what it was he was watching, but also to see what the huge attraction was. So, grabbing my pillow and blanket, I went and snuggled down on the lounge and hit ‘play’. The boys were outside riding their bikes (another Christmas present) and I was completely alone, entering the world of The Twilight Saga. Just a few short hours afterwards, I was down at Angus & Robertson, buying all four books! Iwas completely hooked and couldn’t wait to find out what happened, right through to the end. Having to fight my Son for first dibs on Twilight and winning, I had it finished and moved on to New Moon within the next day. New Years eve was upon us and after deciding what we all wanted to do, the three of us headeddown to the Cinemas. New moon was showing and it was a fantastic way to see in 2010, with my two boys. Before it left the cinemas, we had seen New Moon three times and were on the waiting list to pre-order the dvd. It only took a few days to read Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, then I was desperately seeking otherTwilight things to read, watch and buy. Every chance I got, I was scouting local shops to see what bargains I could pick up. New Moon was released on dvd for my birthday and on the same day, the release date for Eclipse was announced. I was so excited and even managed to get tickets to a Twi-A-Thon, with Eclipse being shown at midnight after Twilight and New Moon. I was gobsmacked at how many ‘Mums’ there were waiting to see it, just like me, although most of them had daughters with them and I had my eldest Son. The following day we bought The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner and devoured it in a few short hours. So now it is all coming to an end and I am constantly being asked; Why, at my age, am I so hooked on The Twilight Saga? Well, firstly, I am not that old. And secondly, it gave me something to share in with my children. This never seems to satisfy people, with a raised eyebrow and a quizzical look on their faces, so my answer to their question is this; Twilight is not about sparkling vampires, shape shifting were wolves, or evil law upholders. Ithas nothing to do with Team Edward, Jacob or Alice. It doesn’t even revolve around the fact that a teenage girl is constantly wanted turned or dead. Twilight for me is about love. Quite simply, a love that every girl and woman dreams of, theirentire life. Loving and receiving love, that complete, is what every woman wants, no matter how old or young they are. Stephanie Meyer must have the most romantic and exclusive relationship with her Husband, to be able to write so passionately about love, as surely, she would need to experience it, to be able to put it on paper, for the world to see, as she has. So The Twilight Saga and my addiction to it, is simply because it is about the love felt and expressed in it!
Team Edward or Team Jacob? and why?
Team Edward for Bella, but Jacob still won in the end too!
