Twilight Saga & The Vampire Diaries...Any Thoughts?

Hey everyone! I stumbled upon a preview for The Vampire Diaries on IMDB.com. I couldn't help but notice similarities between it and Twilight (human girl and vampire guy fall for each other; other vampire has it out for said human girl, etc). I know the show is based on a book series as well. Has anyone else seen this preview or read the books? I'm not quite sure how I feel about it or if I plan to tune in.
