A Third 'Snow White' film to be made!

Here we go again.

As Universal and Relativity Media race to 2012 with their respective big-screen Snow White adaptations, Disney has quietly plotted its own reboot of the fairytale that helped make the studio a household name.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Disney has pulled the trigger on a film called “The Order of the Seven,” a re-imagining of the Brothers Grimm story that the Mouse House has been developing since 2002.

Originally titled “Snow and the Seven,” this live-action film will minimize the traditional elements of the Snow White story in favor of an action-driven plot. The script, written by “Toy Story 3” scribe Michael Arndt, sets the film in China, where an English woman (Miss White) is being terrorized by a wicked ancient force. Lucky for her, a centuries-old band of warriors from across the world (our Seven Dwarves) reunite to protect her. THR says the film will focus more on the fierce seven, who will each have their own fighting style and homeland (U.S., Russia, etc.).

“The Order of the Seven” will be directed by Michael Gracey (a visual effects specialist) and produced by Andrew Gunn (“Freaky Friday,” “Bedtime Stories”). The earlier version of the film, which stuck closer to the traditional tale, had Natalie Portman attached to star.

It will be interesting to see if and how the performances of the other two Snow White projects will affect the success of Disney’s version.

"The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," which stars Lily Collins as Snow White, Julia Roberts as The Evil Queen and Armie Hammer as The Prince, is tentatively set for a March 16, 2012 release. “Snow White and the Huntsman,” a Grimm-er adaptation starring Kristen Stewart as Snow White, Chris Hemsworth as The Huntsman and Charlize Theron as The Evil Queen, will follow on June 1, 2012.

In its favor, “The Order of the Seven” is still in the earliest stages of production, and will likely have up to a year of buffer between it and its predecessors.

Can't wait for the merchandise.
