****SPOILER ALERT if you haven't read Breaking Dawn*********
I read the entire series before reading any fansites, fanfiction, etc. So I had no preconceived notions of how Breaking Dawn would unfold. I did want a happy ending and I did want Bella to get married to Edward and also become vampire. However, I did not expect or really like the pregnancy. I know it's Stephenie's world and she can write what she wants, but I think we all have ways we wanted it to go.

Maybe it's because I don't have children and don't plan to have any (I'm 38 now). Maybe it's because I'm not really into kids. But I think a couple of things about it made the book less than perfect for me. First, the baby immediately forced the story to change, drove a wedge between her an Edward, then after the birth, their focus was on her instead of each other. Now maybe that's how it should be in life, but she's 18. Could they have had a little time in their immortality to enjoy each other without the responsibility of a child?

I still loved the book and the series, but I would have liked it better without the pregnancy and baby. How did you feel about it?

I was very, very shocked about the pregnancy. When I was reading it, it actually took me a couple of pages to properly understand what was actually happening, I thought it was amazing that Steph could spring something like this on us, without any of us knowing.
With Reneesmee, taking care of her isn't really a responsibilty. At a couple of weeks old, she's not exactly vunerable and defenceless. Plus, Bella and Edward learned to share their love for each other with Nessie, without ever really thinking about it.
I know, I have a problem with Bella being 18 and already having a kid. But I suppose that's how it was meant to be. Besides, we all know Bella has extraordinary bad luck, and her having a child that almost killed was pretty much her luck in action. Not to say that Nessie is a curse; I just think that everyone accepted what happened, and that's the way it happened. I doubt Steph could have changed it, once it was all in her head.
Which would you have liked: They get married, they have sex, Bella is changed, the end.
They get married, they have sex, Bella is changed, and something completly unexpected happens.
Really, I can't think what could have happened after Bella was changed, if Nessie never happened. No one really did.

I think they could have gotten married, Bella is changed in a sexier way - maybe during their honeymoon? Then some other drama with the Volturi could have ensued. Stephenie is really creative so I'm sure she could have come up with something. But I have to say she surprised me and that's part of why I like the series so much.

I agree, actually. I think I would have preferred to have BD focus on just Bella and Edward. But as you also mentioned, that may be because I don't have kids and don't plan on having them anytime in the near future. I can't relate at all to what Bella goes through, which may have made the book less personal for me.

I did really like, however, the fact that Bella is so protective of Renesmee when she's pregnant with her. I was happy to see that she stood her own, even with everyone (including Edward) telling her how foolish she was being. The girl sticks to her guns, which is part of what makes her "Bella". I imagine that Stephenie must have realized how well this situation would illustrate that character trait.
