Breaking Dawn--Anticipation (Part 2): New characters

Thank you all so much for participating in my last post. Over 100 comments--Wow, I guess anticipation is running high in a lot of us.

Since we had so much fun looking ahead to Breaking Dawn in my previous post, I thought we'd do it again. This time let's talk about which NEW characters we're most looking forward to. Here's my top 5:

1. Garrett-American Nomad Vampire

I can't wait to see Garrett, "the Revolutionary", give his Patrick Henry-type speech during the confrontation with the Volturi. And his attraction to Kate forshadows a wonderful yet unwritten love story. "If we live through this, I'll follow you anywhere, woman."

*I'm also a "Pushing Daisies" fan so they had me at Lee Pace*

2. Kate-Denali Coven & Cullen "Cousin"

Kate's power to "shock" those who touch her offers up one of the best "fight training scenes". Edward offers himself as guinea pig and is repeatedly "tasered" as Bella tries to expand her shield. But Kate pushes Bella to the brink and incurs her wrath by using Renesmee as motivation. Only in her fury does Bella learn the full extent of her power.

During the confrontation with the Volturi Kate declares "Jane's mine. She deserves a taste of her own medicine." Now that's a fight I'd pay to see.

3. Zafrina-Amazon Coven

Bella calls Zafrina a "wild woman" and describes the Amazon clan as the most "uncivilized vampires" she ever met. Zafrina has the power to take away someone's sight or force them to see themselves in another setting. She and Renesmee form a special bond and often "trade pictures". Zafrina assists Kate in Bella's fight training and takes on the job of protecting Bella should the confrontation turn ugly. She promises Edward, "No one will touch this young one".

We also have Zafrina to thank for teaching Bella to lift her shield so Edward can read her mind. That alone makes her top notch in my book!

4. Benjamin-Egyptian Coven

Benjamin, a seemingly young vampire, has the unheard of ability to "influence the elements-earth, wind, water, and fire". Although he belongs to a coven, Benjamin is extremely independent and "refuses to be used". Edward immediately likes him because "He has a very clear sense of right and wrong. I like his attitude."

If Edward likes him, that's the only stamp of approval I need.

5. J. Jenks-Human

Alice cryptically sends Bella to J Jenks to create false papers for Jacob & Renesmee should they need to flee. Bella quite likes J and vows to take over the Cullens relationship with him "to spare him the heart attack that was surely on the way".

Everything about the interactions with Mr. Jenks makes me chuckle: the sweating, the fidgeting, and the healthy respect (translation--fear) for Jasper. Oh Jasper, what did you do to this man? There's an untold story there for sure!

So that's my top 5. Like before, this list is by no means complete. Let me know what you think and what new characters you can't wait to meet.

Comment by Mrs.Cope on January 28, 2011 at 10:05pm: We haven't heard much about Kebi, Amun, Kachiri, Senna, or Alistair. I hope they don't roll all the Amazon's into one like they did Jessica and Lauren, or Ben, Austin and Eric.

Alistair could be a hoot, and I hope Ms. Rosenburg has the foresight to give him some hilarity, along with the Romanians. (When I read these books aloud, I always make them sound like Bela Lugosi.)

They haven't mentioned the housekeeper on Isle Esme, and I hope that role isn't cut. It's so gut-wrenching when she tells Edward to kill the baby.

There is so many things that I want to see from many of the characters but I am concerned that Rosenberg won't give us what we want to see. I would include Tanya as well. Has anyone heard about who is playing Irina?I want to see how the out hunting scene is going to look like with her mistaking Nessie for an immoral child. The rest of the covens don't really interest me.

Comment by Heidi Byrnes on January 28, 2011 at 10:52pm: Don't get me wrong but I thought J.Jenks was white not black. I just hope they do let the charctacters do what they need to do to made it work and fit in with the book otherwise it could be like Twilight the Movie a big disappointment.
