As The Host's theatrical release draws ever nearer, Stephenie Meyer' s national book signing tour has been in full swing, and today she hit up Vancouver, British Columbia to support the story and spoke with City TV about how The Host came to be.
The Host, of course, is Meyer's one and only non-Twilight Saga novel, and she released it in spring 2008, just before the final Twilightinstallment Breaking Dawn hit shelves and the first film hit theaters that fall.
As Meyer explained , the story came along as an "escape," just as Twilight had done.
"The Host was a project that actually started while I was editing Twilight," Meyer said. "Twilight began as an escape from the daily grind of the unthinking care of small children because you don't do a lot of thinking while you do that, and so it was just kind of a mental escape, and then it became a lot work. With the editing, there became a lot of pressure. So The Host was my escape from the escape."
