newsweek made an interview with twilight director , Catherine Hardwicke. she talked about how trouble finding an actor otherworldly enough to play vampire Edward Cullen , talked about casting Robert pattinson as Edward
*For Twilight, Hardwicke had trouble finding an actor otherworldly enough to play vampire Edward Cullen. Then she got a call about a guy in London. “I looked at a couple pictures and was like, ‘I’m not sure,’?” Hardwicke says. “He had been fired from his last job, he was unemployed, he was in debt.” Pattinson flew to Los Angeles on his own dime to read with Stewart. “I have footage of their first meeting at my dining-room table,” Hardwicke says. “Kristen was like, ‘It’s got to be Rob!’ She felt connected to him from the first moment. That electricity, or love at first sight, or whatever it is.” Hardwicke gave him the part, but he had to make a promise. “You’ve got to realize that Kristen is 17 years old,” she told him. “She’s underage. You’ve got to focus, dude, or you’re going to be arrested. I made him swear on a stack of Bibles.”
* When Hardwicke auditioned Evan Rachel Wood for Thirteen, she had her get into her bed with Nikki Reed. That’s also where Pattinson kissed Stewart for the first time in his Twilight screen test. “That bed made Pattinson who he is right now,” says Reed. Asked about her lair, Hardwicke laughs. “MTV came and did an episode in my house filming the bed. It’s legendary,” she says, flashing a wide—dare we say wolfish—grin.*

This account makes a lot of sense to me. It makes all the little bits of info regarding Rob & Kristen over the past going on 3 years add up. I had read that Rob got together early on with Nikk Reed, then their relationship went south as the shooting progressed. It makes me wonder if shortly after Nikki & Rob broke up, if that's when Kristen & Michael Angarano started to deteriorate. I think Rob & Kristen had feelings for each other from the start, but were in other relationships so they didn't act upon it. I ran across an old pic of Rob & Nikki. If they weren't in a relationship, then I don't know why Nikki's got her hand on an interesting part of his body:

OMG Nene where did you get this pic from and yes her hand is in a very intersting place, i did read very early on that Rob was in a love triangle with Nikki and Kristen, i also heard he was sort of with her at the beginning of Twilight. Do think that is would be akward acting around each other if that was the case. But true love concures all and if Robert is in love with kristen and she is the one then its only fair to end it with Nikki even though we are not sure they were together. Love you Robert Pattinson forever and always!! xxxxxxxxxx

wow i have never seen this pic either.. very intresting.. if by chance this is true dont think rob and nikki would of been in a relationship more of casual lets have some fun buddies(if u know what i mean)hahahah Rob proballt respected kristen had a bf but when he realized kristen had feeling for him thats when both relationships went sour.. hahah just a thought but no one know and probally never will.. there was no doubt rob and kristen had chemistry and first site that what makes the films so wonderful to watch (well one of the reasons)

@Glee do tell all can you get the directors book anywhere? Is it worth it to purchase?
@Jlopez I too agree I think the footage should be released, I think it would be awesome to see.
This is the first I have seen of the pic as well. I have to wonder if it is true and it looks that way as her hand seems to be pretty comfortable where it is placed.
Okay I am going to reach here but lets just say the reason why Kristen and Rob are so private and low key is because they don't want to hurt Nikki's feelings since they were bff's. You never know it may have been a huge secret because they thought she would be upset. I am trying to put myself in their shoes and it completely makes sense. In the same breath I do know how private Kristen is however she also seems like she is very caring and would want to avoid hurting a friend at all costs.

@Jo Anna yes I think it's definitely worth a purchase! It really goes behind the scenes about everything, even behind why they wear specific clothes to the difficulties of making the movie. I got it two years ago for Christmas and it was from a shop called K-Mart, though they sold it in other department stores. =)
