Charlie Bewley: "I'd love to freak the hell out of little girls in 3D!"

Although they have mostly lingered in the background for two films, I am transfixed by The Volturi. Jane, Aro, Demitri -- all of them. Thankfully they take center stage in "The Twilight Saga's" final two chapters, "Breaking Dawn" parts one and two.

But we still have 18 months until cresting sunrise, so let's focus instead on "Eclipse" -- which is devouring the box office right now. I chatted with Charlie Bewley, who plays Volturi tracker Demetri about joining the franchise, crafting that eye-gouging hairdo and his hopes for a 3D finale.

PopWrap: Congrats on the opening week box office -- $161 million is impressive.
Charlie Bewley: I really did not see that coming, it’s great. To think, thanks to this small independent movie we've gotten to embrace the whole world – well, invade might be the best word.

PW: It's a pretty massive way to enter Hollywood.
Charlie: Yes, I started acting fairly late, but it’s never something I felt I had to learn how to do, I always knew how to act, it was just a matter of putting it into professional practice. I had to learn the process, but embodying characters is nothing new. I’ve done that my entire life.

PW: So you're revealing yourself to be a grifter then?
Charlie: [laughs] Well, throughout the world really. I’ve scammed so many people throughout my whole life who never learned my true identity until I started acting. But I have to say that the great thing about acting is once you let yourself go, into a character, you actually discover who you are. It’s an amazing process.

PW: What is it about acting that makes it so revealing?
Charlie: With someone like Demetri -- a rash, arrogant character -- I’ve never overtly been like that in my life. You really have to loosen yourself up. Essentially everything you’re bringing to a character, it’s part of you. For lack of a better word, acting is therapeutic. You really are breaking down barriers, exorcising demons and finding more out about yourself.

PW: Talk to me about Demetri's hair -- it's a very distinct do.
Charlie: Yes, it’s almost quite 18th century, Eastern European. It’s otherworldly ... but the fact is, that’s what my hair looked like when I auditioned. I had short hair, so I managed to craft down a small needle of hair, which had a vaguely Mickey Mouse vibe to it. Also, slightly Dracula-esque. By the time the 10 weeks rolled by between audition and first day on set, it had become this wonderful stalactite. They added some bits to it, but it’s a big spike down the middle. But in "Breaking Dawn," when my role is a bit bigger, the hair might change.

PW: Talk to me about that -- how excited are you for the two part finale?
Charlie: It’s the big showdown – it’s Volturi vs everyone else. We’ve been introduced in "New Moon," we’ve overseen "Eclipse," now is the time we’ll kick some ass. And Demetri tracks down the new kid that Rob & Kristen’s characters have. It’ll be interesting to see what degree he’s involved.

PW: What about rumors that it'll be shot in 3D -- thoughts?
Charlie: I would say that if the second half of "Breaking Dawn" incorporated enough action to warrant 3D, then I don’t see why not – it’s a wonderful medium and it’s doing a lot for our industry. It could make for a great finale.

PW: Plus, think about what they could do with your stalactite in 3D!
Charlie: Yea, let's pop it out – I look forward to that. Plus, there’s a lot of great fighting that I’d hate to see consigned to my memory, or my realm of thinking. I’d love to actualize these things and freak the hell out of some little girls in 3D

great interview :D
what did he mean in "And Demetri tracks down the new kid that Rob & Kristen’s characters have."?
Demetri tracks Renesmee? it's not supposed to be Irena? umm

Tal~ I was thinking the same thing. I thought Irena *see's* them all in the woods hunting and then goes back and tells the Volturi. Perhaps he means after that Demetri goes first to see what is going on before the others? *shurgs* I am going to have to go back and re-read that part of the book I guess.

Aidinslevel... I'm pretty sure that's Irena is the first to see Renesmee.
mm... maybe it's after Irena went to tell the Vultori, and then Demetri tracks Renesmee and leads the Vultori to the Cullens? idk... I just hope they won't change anything...
