David Slade to direct *Hunger Games* with KStew to star?

MTV Hollywood Crush reports:

"Katniss Everdeen is getting one step closer to the Hunger Games arena. According to a report from Deadline, the studio behind the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' best-selling YA trilogy is in talks with Gary Ross to direct.

You may remember from our "Hunger Games" chat last week, that Gary was among three directors caught in Lionsgate's crosshairs. Also in contention were "Eclipse" helmer David Slade and Sam Mendes ("American Beauty", "Revolutionary Road"). While we gave David the slight advantage in this competition, we think Gary is also a strong contender. Having written and directed the beautifully surreal "Pleasantville," Ross certainly has the eye to bring this dystopian tale to the big screen. And did we mention he has four Oscar nominations to his name? Not too shabby.

Deadline emphasized that a deal has not yet been struck between Gary and the studio, but he is their choice pending negotiations. Once a director is on board, then we can finally answer the big question: Who will play Katniss?"

What do you think Twifans, should David Slade direct and KStew to star??? Chime in below..

I am reading Hunger Games an I really like it. I hope KStew doesn't get the part. No need to ruin anymore good books.

I think it's very unlikely for Kristen to get involved in another big franchise so soon after Twilight is going to be finished. Actually it is very possible that something like this might be stipulated in her contract with Summit. Especially because the last BD movie will be released in 2012 so they want her to be Bella and only Bella for at least two more years. In my opinion this is only a rumor and a way to get the attention, because if you mention that Rob or Kristen might be involved in your movie then for sure you win something...

It's one of my favorite series. Bringing this to the big screen will be tricky. It needs to be gritty and David Slade can bring that scary, gritty, and out of this world feeling to this movie. KStew would make an amazing Katniss. She is the perfect amount of hardness. It would still be amazing without her if doesn't like it. But what's not to like?

@Alison - do you think Gary Ross would be a good pick for director? I think KStew would be awesome as Katniss (I've been talking to some of my non-TwiHard friends who are fans of this series and they think so too).

Yeah i think that they should both direct/act in the Hunger Games. I've never read them but my brother says that she would be a good Katniss. Only if Kristen had emotions. But i think she has emotions!!!!!!!!!!

noo.. i know many wont agree with this but i think David Slade ruined Eclipse, and i just pray he isnt givin the chance to do that with the Hunger Games too

@cheryl hallsworth - totes agree actually. I think between Slade and Rosenberg they ruined Eclipse. The intense burning passionate love Bella felt for Edward was such a huge part of the book and I just did not see it at all in the movie. It seems like she could barely stand to be near him, she kept pushing him away all the time, except to try to get him to have sex with her or change her. And that "I am woman, hear me ROAR" speech written by MR at the end makes me want to puke. There are so many things that just made no sense either. When Bella went to the Cullen's house for the night when she and Edward were going to be alone, next time you watch it, you'll see she drove there ALONE! (and this was the night before the big battle when Victoria's army was supposedly on their way to kill her and for weeks they had been trying to protect her and then this!!!!) And, Edward comes to the door and says some really stupid thing like "What are you doing outside?" WTF????? Read pgs. 436 to 437 in Eclipse and you'll see how that scene should have been - it shows the essence of why we are all so in love with Edward. The scene could have and should have been done that way, it wouldn't have made the movie run over 2 hours and would have shown how much Edward and Bella are in love. Well, guess I shouldn't really go off on a rant here, I did go see it 5 times, but you know what? I would have seen it probably 5 more times if there hadn't been so many disappointments. Sorry for the tangent!
