One time, at band camp in Squamish....we thought silver Volvos might grow on trees!!! While driving on a rural country road in the logging town of Squamish, B.C., we stumbled upon the 'Breaking Dawn' set. How did we know it was the 'Breaking Dawn' set you ask? Well the production assistant/girl guarding the public road confirmed it when we asked-is how. As respectful fans we are-we turned around and thought we would come back another day.
UNTIL we saw a nice area to park. We grabbed our folding camping chairs-what self respecting Twilight fan doesn't have that handy and copped a squat to wave at the cars coming by. In hopes that we might get a car to stop to say hi.
After several hours of reading 'Breaking Dawn' *ahem* fan fiction we started to see shiny, very clean cars come by. Not locals. Local cars are very dirty from the dirty snow on the roads. We started waving like a mad man. We saw Peter tweeting-he didn't even see us. Ashley Greene waved and her driver honked. We already considered that a huge success. UNTIL Robert Pattinson waved his fingers out his cracked window!!! SCORE! Others flew by and we kept on waving but we couldn't tell what stars they were.
Alright, alright enough about that and on to Volvo-gate. We decided another trip to this set location was in order. This time the set was closed-meaning no cast, no filming. This time we could drive on through! JACKPOT BABY! I got my camera out and started taking pictures while driving through on the the public road. You would think I was surrounded by movie stars and not pine trees. Needless to say the pine trees were papped like they were stars in Hollywood at the famous Ivy restaurant. After what seemed like a thousand pictures, we ran to our closest safe house...Starbucks to upload photos and see what I really caught on film.
BOOYAH! To our surprise we didn't just get trees! But we saw lights...boring. No trespassing signs...boring. Generators...boring. Trailers...not boring, but as cool as those items were-they were not as cool as a SHINY VOLVO!!! Yes straight through the trees and down a driveway (that I didn't even notice) was 2 brand new Volvos!
We went to straight to the Volvo website and started comparing wheels, tail-lights, spoilers, and colors. After an hour (or two) of dissecting the vehicle from top to bottom we concluded with certainty that Edward's 'Breaking Dawn' Volvo is a S60 R-9 design series.
Now-it's again NOT SILVER, but in my opinion ,after custom building both a Silver Metallic S60 R9 Volvo and a Saville Grey Metallic S60 R9 Volvo, the later was better. Trust me the darker Volvo was damn sexy! The lighter silver was just meh *shrug and Billy Idol lip smirk*. I put my stamp of approval on the darker "silver" color as a true TwiFan.
Once upon a time we talked to 'Twilight' author Stephenie Meyer about the 'Eclipse' Volvo. What did she say?? Direct quote "they don't make that one anymore." WHAT!?! Our direct quote back "they don't make Bella's truck anymore but we managed to get it." Read the Volvo excerpt of our interview here. Basically it's in-content advertising. Volvo pays BIG money to have their vehicle in the 'Twilight' movies. They didn't have the 'Twilight' Volvo in 'New Moon' or 'Eclipse' because Volvo changed to something they could still sell. If they can't sell it, why pay to have it included in a movie? Right. Why do this? It helps off-set production costs. It's smart move for the $$ people. But it's at the expense of fans wanting continuity and in keeping with the books.
Chris Weitz and TwiFans.com had some fun talking Volvos on twitter. He is such a good sport. Even when faced with this:
Now back to the important info...check out some of the photos we got of the sexy Edward Cullen's Volvo. We are sorry we don't have a full view to show you today. Our camera thought the trees were the focus of our pictures and kept focusing on trees and blurring the background. Thank Oprah we got a couple clear ones so you know we weren't day-dreaming!!
Much more Squamish 'Breaking Dawn' info to come in the coming days. But until then why not take a 360° tour of Edward's Volvo.

Worried about what directors think of visiting set locations? Listen to what 'New Moon' director Chris Weitz thinks. TwiFans.com asked Chris via twitter-- How do directors feel about fans at set locations? Chris says, "I love it, it's cool and inspiring, so long as the audio stays clean."
