Get to know Bryce Howard...You may like her (personal history + photos)

Bryce Dallas Howard was born on March 2, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. She was conceived in Dallas, Texas (the reason for her middle name). Her father, named Ron Howard, is a former actor turned Oscar-winning director. Her mother is actress and writer Cheryl Howard (nee Alley). Her famous relatives include her uncle, actor Clint Howard, and her grandparents, actor Rance Howard and actress Jean Speegle Howard. She also has two younger twin sisters, named Jocelyn and Paige, born in 1985, and a brother, Reed Howard, born in 1987.

Howard was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut, because her parents decided to raise their four children as far away from the trappings of showbiz milieu as possible. During most of her childhood she really did not have much access to a TV. She attended Greenwich Country Day School, and Byram Hills High School in Armonk, New York. At that time, she discovered existentialism and devoured books by Albert Camus and Jean-Paul Sartre. She attended the prestigious Steppenwolf School and Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts camp at Catskills together with her friend Natalie Portman. She applied to drama school as Bryce Dallas, dropping her last name to eschew special treatment because of association with her renown father. From 1999-2003, she studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory and at the New York University Tisch School of Arts and graduated with a BFA degree in Drama in 2003. At that time, she performed in Broadway productions of classical plays by George Bernard Shaw, William Shakespeare and Anton Chekhov.

Young Howard appeared in three of her father's films as an extra, including her appearance as a child together with her mother in Apollo 13 (1995). She made her feature-film debut as Heather, a supporting role in Book of Love (2004) by director Alan Brown. Director M. Night Shyamalan was impressed by her performance in a Broadway play and cast her without an audition as a female lead in his two thrillers: The Village (2004) and Lady in the Water (2006). Howard replaced Nicole Kidman in Dogville (2003) sequel, Manderlay (2005). She stars as Rosalind in As You Like It (2006), a reprise of her stage role that made such an impression on Shyamalan. She is also billed as Gwen Stacy in the third installment of the Spider-Man franchise, Spider-Man 3 (2007).

Howard became a devoted vegan since Joaquin Phoenix showed her Earthlings (2007), a documentary about animal cruelty. After seeing that, she has consumed no animal products, not even milk or eggs. Her other activities outside of the acting profession include playing basketball and writing.

On June 17, 2006, in Connecticut, she married her long-term boyfriend, actor Seth Gabel, whom she met at New York University and had dated for five years. On February 16, 2007, Bryce and her husband, Seth, became parents of their first child, a boy, named Theodore Norman Howard Gabel.

I dont want to be mean towards Bryce.. I bet she is an amazing actress.. it's just the fact that we are getting a replacement so into the saga... If Bryce was casted as Victoria from the start.. sure she'd be good..I bet.. but Rachelle has been Victoria for the past 2 other movies... we can't just replace her like its nothing. I just really hope Summit decides to reconcile and make amends. I agree with Alison.. they just need to sit chillax.. sip some coffee and discuss possible ways to fix this problem.

So in Harry Potter they replaced Dumbledore (well, they had no choice, He died) but it didn't work out too bad. Who knows, she might do a good job (However, Rachelle did and exceptional one). I don't think she asked daddy for the role. I mean she didn't even use her real name when applying for school. That doesn't sound like someone who wants a freebe. I am with Hippofreak. If it was that important to Rachelle she should of dropped the other movie!

I tend to agree with Shelly. I don't know all the ins & outs about the scheduling conflict between the two films & I certainly DO NOT believe that Bryce would have asked her Dad to get her the part, she will have got it on merit. All of the other actors fitted their characters perfectly but personally, for me, Rachelle wasn't the Victoria that I visualised from the books, she didn't come across as being a particularly 'bad' vampire. I know that lots of you will be queueing up to disagree with me, but I wish Rachelle well & look forward to seeing how Bryce portrays Victoria.

Its nothing personal. It's not like I dislike her or anything but I'm loyal to the original cast. It is the stupid reasons that they gave which annoy me. Bryce could be the nicest person in the world for all i care. I just hate when they change people in sequels! Imagine they had changed Jacob after all.No-one wanted that!

BDH is a wonderful actress in her own right! She will do good I know, but I still feel Lefevre should continue her portrayal of Victoria and keep the harmonious cast, well, harmonious...

i feel sorry for her. this is going to be the scariest job she's ever done after all this backlash. i hope she does a good job, it's not her fault.

I still don't like her. She's not Rachelle.

I dont think it's right to put any blame on Bryce. She had nothing to do with Rachelle leaving. I like her, and I think she's very pretty. But for me, Rachelle will always be the perfect Victoria. I also do not think she would ask her father to be put in a movie. I dont think she's like that at all.

I guess if Rachelle HAS to be replaced Bryce is a good choice. I loved her in 'The Village.' I had no idea she was Ron Howard's daughter. I just hope they give her some rocking red extensions that don't look to fake. We've already had some bad hair in Twilight with Jackson.
