Here we go again ~ *Real-Life 'Twilight' Saga: Teens Sucking Each Other's Blood* reports:

"American teens are sinking their teeth into each other's necks, literally.

Inspired by the "Twilight" series and heartthrob vampire Edward Cullen's chilly charms, teens are taking their love nips a little too far, MSNBC reports, biting each other -- hard -- and then licking the blood.

Bizarre teen behavior has horrified parents for generations, but health officials and other experts are warning this vampire-inspired Count Dracula fad could have serious consequences.

"These are kids who think they are real vampires," Dr. Orly Avitzur, the medical advisor to Consumers Union, the agency that publishes Consumer Reports magazine, tells MSNBC.

And many teens are getting their blood-sucking fix on the Internet, Avitzur says, noting that sessions spent trolling vampire-related teen websites are on the rise. Groups such as "I drink blood," a category at, and "I want to be a vampire" at the site, are filled with apparent posts from young people with a yearning for hemoglobin.

"Having that thick, warm copper-tasting blood in my mouth is the best thing I can think of!" writes a teenager identified as "GothicGirl10" on MSNBC. "Sometimes my boyfriend lets me feed off him. I let him feed off me as well."

Such talk alarms medical experts, who warn about the dangers of blood-borne diseases such as hepatitis and HIV, as well as the risk of nasty infections. Typically, 10-15 percent of human bite wounds become infected, MSNBC reports.

"If you break the skin, your mouth is pretty dirty," Dr. Thomas Abshire, a pediatric blood and cancer specialist and spokesman for the American Academy of Pediatrics, tells MSNBC. "The human mouth flora is dirtier than a dog or cat's."

Also concerning is the fact that this biting is often done to brand another person, experts say.

"If you think about it, there is such glamorization in those teen vampire movies, they make it seem so sexy and appealing and intriguing," Avitzur says. "It's all mixed up with passion."

Le sigh.... what do you think Twifans... cool or gross and is this really because of Twilight or just the vampire craze in general?

This actually isn't something new. There were cases years ago about some weird teenagers making their Vampire-group sessions, and they even went to parties were everyone were "vampires". This is new on the US though, so I'm not surprised it did get this far. :/

first of all its so unsanitary second of all why twilight always blamed when you have things like vampire diaries and true blood on the market too. i think these teens are just looking for attention and need to find a better way to spend their time, and a better hobby

I don't understand why they blame it on Twilight. Not the Cullens anyway. HELLO the Cullens don't drink or bite humans!!!

I guess Twilight and vampire shows could encourage that kind of behaviour, but only in people who are stupid and crazy enough to do something like that. And if it wasn't this, it wouldn't take them long to find another insane, dangerous fad to sink their teeth into, if you'll pardon the expression!

Typical, something gets big so people try to shoot it down, its not Twilights fault if these teens have no common sense, maybe their parents should be teaching them to use their brains instead of blaming a book

Biting has been a form of sexual expression/play since the dawn of man, but it is more of a playful, non harmful thing and usually has nothing to do with actual blood, but more for the sensation. I have seen many shows that explore the world of *real life vampires* many years before Twilight, that showed how people engaged in *blood letting*. For the most part, everyone was tested for diseases and razor blades were used. It was done in a more health conscious fashion.

For what is going on with teenagers as explained in the article, I really think it is a fad and a exploration for them. I am sure that Twilight, because of it's massive popularity is once again being made the scape goat and for the true TwiHards we know that Twilight really has nothing to do with this.

This has been going on for years- I remember when I was a teen Interview with the Vampire was all the rage and blood drinking was an issue then too. As it was YEARS before that. The appeal of vampires has been around forever. It's just brought back into the the spotlight because of the success of Twilight, True Blood, Vampire Dairies, etc... But these kids need help, it's dangerous.. however, that may be part of the appeal?

I´ve heard of this ages ago. It's horrible! Honestly, theese people are sick, really sick, and they need help. Shure, I´ll admit that while watching vampire movies I have thought that there´s just something soo sexy about a vamp climbing up to your window, coming over to your bed, pressing his lips to your neck... But how could theese people let others bite them, or even worse, drink somebody's blood just so they can pretend to be vamps, it's discusting, and it is so not cool. What I most hate about this article is that they are(as usual) blaming Twilight for all this stuff. They´re always trying to find something bad about it, I don´t know why. But people have been doing this way before Twilight or any other vampire movies/books came in fashion. Stop blaming Twilight!! And please, do something to help these people.
