First start with the background.
Click themes under your profile pic and add a background. You can change the font type and color. You can change the colors within the background theme you choose.
You can add pictures to your background. Either in the header section, footer section, or main background.
Next in any text box on your page you can add widgets. You can go to the add applications link under your profile pic and go through all of the cool apps they have there.
Top Friends, Your Status, photo apps, and games. If you don't like what you see from the hundreds of apps available then you can go out and grab something elsewhere. Anything with an embed code can go on your page.
