Sparkle For Twilight: Blog Update! It's so wonderful to be back on the internet! For the last few days, I've been transitioning laptops because my pre-college clunker finally decided to blow. I'm not surprised, I've been counting down the days for that very apocalypse to happen. I should have asked for a new one two years ago, but what can I say, my priorities go to food, coffee, and makeup so keeping technology up-to-date is close to the bottom.

When it comes to gadgetry, if it works it works, I didn't really care too much about the aesthetics--that is until I walked into the Sony store and was dazzled by the candy colors. While the pink laptop was so tempting that I had to peel back one hand with my other, I decided to be more mature about the color pink for once, and chose a "sophisticated" white and champagne metallic one instead. I will be starting work soon, and should I ever need to bring in my laptop, I think it'd be best it wasn't screaming pink and bedazzled with Hello Kitty rhinestones (nothing escapes bedazzling).

So on Friday I was geared up to see Band Slam because yeah, I watch those kinds of movies, and it's only an added bonus that the New Moon sneak peek was before it. I get there in the afternoon, and can you believe the 4:15 showing of Band Slam is sold out?! Damn summer and these kids galavanting free all day!

This is especially torturous for me because I am avoiding all of the bloggy gossip on the leaked French/English trailers and I avoided seeing those scenes that they screened at Comic-Con. I just want to see it on the big screen and not ruin it for myself! I haven't even purchased the Entertainment Weekly yet because I don't want to read any spoiling bits till I see this New Moon teaser! I want to know what people are raving and squealing about, but I don't want to see it on a 2 by 3 inch video screen on my laptop while it buffers and stalls.

After my disbelief on how a Friday afternoon showing could be sold out, I regrouped and saw The Time Traveler's Wife, which I wanted to see anyway. There was quite some amount of plaid in the movie given it was supposed to be set circa the 90s, and there were more butts than I would expect from a PG-13 movie. FYI, if you plan to see it, skip the mascara.

So while I had fully intended to blog about my New Moon revelation, that will have to wait. Instead, I have a thought that's been collecting for a while, and it was a definite go after I saw those pappy pics of Kristen on her way to "meet for lunch with Rob."

I just wanna know: what's with the backpack?

Bella is a backpacker, but she's a high school student. That's her excuse.

I get that a backpack can come in handy for traveling at the airport, but I don't know a single girl that uses a backpack as their go-to bag. (With the exception, of course, during the Clueless days when stuffed animal backpacks and little backpacks with fur trim were in with the times.) But Kristen's backpack is a serious one, a get-down-to-business-with-securing-and-packing-all-my-valuables kind of backpack. What can possibly be stuffed in there so that it's, well, completely stuffed? Maybe a laptop, but what else do can she really need that's so bulky?

I'm not one to talk about large bags, though. In my theory, the bigger the better, but I never leave the house with my slouchy hobo fully stuffed and brimming with items like I'm ready to hall it to the woods for a four day camp-out.

What boggles me is that in conjunction with that, it seems when Kristen isn't carrying around her ginormous backpack, she can be seen equally often carrying no bag at all. Totally hands free. Imagine! I'm amazed. Because as girl who's purse weighs about 30 pounds no matter how much I try to take away from it, the usual items--water bottle, an in-case cardigan, like 10 lip colours, wallet, keys, cell and candy--can't be cut down any more efficiently so I don't know how she's able to be so minimalist.

Once in a while when Kristen is sporting a thing appropriate of being called a purse, it's most often a brown leather tote. I'm not stalkery, I'm a bag lover. I did once work for Bottega Veneta after all. It's just usually the first thing I notice on anyone. I like that Kristen reuses her bag(s), I'm all for that. I never get why when some girls get purses, they carry it once or twice and then tuck it away. Hey, if you spend a thousand, two thousand dollars on a bag, you should be getting good use of it!

Even though her style is definitely not my style, I love that she shows off her character. I found it surprising when I read about what she had to say about it in her Teen Vogue interview back in December:

If I’m just chilling out, then people can see me any which way, but it’s different when you’re putting yourself together to do something professionally. You’re under a lot of scrutiny. It’s a bizarre thing, to me, to consider that what I wear or what I do with my hair, can affect my career… I’m not the type of person who has a million things in my closet to put together, so I’ve begun to work with a stylist and we’ve started to figure out what I like. Simple, classically pretty things; I love Chanel.

"I love Chanel"? Somehow the last line stuck out. I can't picture her saying that with her love for Converses and worn-in tees, but there she is, carrying a Chanel purse and working those Chanel pumps.

Sometimes, but rarely, she mixed it up with other bags. I'm not sure who's bag is on the left, but the right I recognize by Chloe.

I don't know why I'm so interested by her style choices. It's very random most of the time (I guess like most of what she does), but just when you don't expect it, she wows you with gorgeousness. I mean would you expect her to be in a cardigan--a sequined cardigan?

I better file these thoughts under the I-have-way-too-much-time-on-my-hands folder.

What's your bag style?

**Update**
While surfing through ROBsessed, I saw this video and I figured out one way in which Kristen does it bagless--she gets purse-carrying Nikki to hang on to her stuff! I sometimes carry BFF's stuff like that too since my bag fits a bowling ball with room to spare. What are good friends for? :)
