Kristen’s On Set Interview with Seventeen Magazine About SWATH

After watching Kristen shoot an intense scene where she was upside down with Chris Hemsworth, you would think she would just want some time to herself to unwind. Instead, after she changed out of her Snow White armor into a hoodie and skinny jeans, she invited Seventeen into her trailer to relax. The star opened up about working with Australian hottie Chris Hemsworth, putting on her battle armor for the first time, and why Snow White isn’t only the fairest, but also the bravest fairytale princess of them all. Check out our intimate conversation below.

Seventeen: What is something you really admire about Snow White?

Kristen Stewart: Snow White is strong in a very different way than you’d expect…She’s strong. She can kick butt!

17: Do you like that she’s not a prissy fairytale princess?

KS: She is prissy sometimes. It takes her the whole movie to become who I’m talking about now. It’s a total identity movie. It’s all about not finding yourself, but actually just being OK with who you always have been and not being ashamed of being the only one who sees the light. She was put away when she was seven years old and her mother and father were killed basically right in front of her. We’re not doing the version of the fairytale that just skims over that. It’s really important to the character. She literally bleeds for her land and her people, and that’s just a cool concept for me because it’s other people caring about people. It’s very simple, but it’s so common.

17: Do you think she learns to be a born leader or was she born with that drive inside of her?

KS: She’s definitely a born leader. It’s literally pumping through her viens, but it’s being taken from her. She’s just been so stolen from.

17: How did you feel the first time you put on the armor? Did you feel braver?

KS: Yeah! Also, my armor doesn’t have a huge top on it, so I can run around in it…I was really happy that Snow White had something heavy on, a bit of armor, before she actually finds her own (metaphorical) armor.

17: This is the second time you’re playing someone who gets led into the woods to be given bad news. Which is harder, realizing that you’re going to die or realizing that the person you love doesn’t love you?

KS: I think Snow White genuinely lacks that innate fear or death that we all have. She isn’t afraid of anything. What’s harder is to have dreams and hopes that you lived with your whole life shattered in front of you.

17: Can you compare Snow White And The Huntsman and Twilight at all? Are there any similarities?

KS: Bella and Snow White both come to find that they’re leaders, but they’re very, very different people.

17: What about working with Chris Hemsworth surprised you? Did you have any preconceptions of him?

KS: Before I met him, I was like ‘Gosh, he’s so charming!’ He’s so ridiculously, seemingly nice…Chris is an amazing, nice guy and has great insticts. He can roll with everything on set. He’s really relaxed. I really like working with him.

17: What was your favorite fairytale as a kid?

KS: I really liked The Jungle Book. I was obsessed!
