Marriage Proposal dropped from New Moon?! *Beware possible spoilers*

I was given a link by Hattie (thanks ;oD ) where New Moon director Christ Weitz spoke to the Edmonton News about some of the changes he has made in the movie from the book.

It is said that some of the rumoured changes are -

* Bella is a DareDevil in the film in comparison to the book.

* Although Edward is supposed to appear to Bella as a voice only the filmmakers have decided to have him in the film as a ghostly figure instead of just a voice. No doubt to get him more screen time for the fans.

* In the books apparently Laurent is destroyed by the wolves, where as in the film he will fight them.

* lastly in the book Edward says he will turn Bella into a vampire if they marry. Obviously to keep things more 'teen' they have decided to remove the marriage angle.

The one that really makes my heart sink is that Edward proposing to Bella has been left out.

For one, It is such a CRUCIAL part of the story!! Are they going to totally rewrite other parts now to "fit in" with it?

And the excuse of wanting to keep things more "teen"??! Hello? Lots of fans who love the saga are adults - Myself included! And anyway, What teen girl doesn`t want a bit of love and romance in her life???

Also, What kind of message are they sending? It doesn`t matter if you have a child out of wedlock? You don`t need marriage? Or are they going to change it so that Renesmee never existed???

You can see the full article here -

Sorry for any spoilers, I just hope this is all smoke and it isn`t true :( Though he totally ruined The Golden Compass so I don`t hold out much hope :(

I agree with you the proposal is absolutely necessary !! I don't see why it would shock teenagers because they're getting married...
I hope it's just a rumor ! Wait and see

It has to be a rumor. I haven't seen one thing that says what they changed it to. I just can't believe that Stephenie would allow it. Many mothers enjoy the series. I know of several that have read it with their daughters and now share this obsession together. I just think this is absurd to remove the marriage angle. It has to be there.

What?!?!?!??!?! I was just thinking all the while whether the proposal would be in the movie. Darn, that must be a rumour! I refuse to believe it! Noooo!!!! *sobz and sighs

Maybe the proposal will happen in the third film, instead. Either way, I know Melissa and Chris will try their best to make the adaptation to the big screen go smoothly.

I hope it is just a rumor because they have to bring up the marraige angle some time because of Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.. don't you think? I can't imagine how bringing up marraige as a condition to Edward turning her would steer away from the teen audience. Either way, I think the movie will be GREAT!

It would be IMPOSSIBLE to leave out the proposal in the third film. Honestly if they did, the integrity of the whole sage would be gone and frankly how could they even call it part of the Twilight Saga? They better hope they dont disappoint their adult fan base in New Moon, they might regret that.

What no proposal ? So what are they using for Edward's angle ? He's going to ask Bella for more time on top of what was promised to the Cullens ? That's it ? There are so many adults who read these books it's absurd. It's fine go ahead and do it. I guess the proposal is just a propsal when it comes to Eclipse or are they just holding this off ? DAMN IT'S SAD THEY CAN'T JUST STICK TO THE BOOK IT'S NOT THAT HARD but I guess it is for a movie.

I saw the article and I agree with you. They need to realize the importance of the proposal to the fan base. It is the key to the following books. I hope this is rumor and not fact. Fans need to let them know this is wrong. what are they saying they want teens not to believe in marriage. Please.......

Well, maybe they will just make the real proposal with the ring a bigger deal in Eclipse!?!?! I still hope it is just a rumor!
