Sparkle for Twilight: Blog Update! Even when you think you can take a break from
Twilight and vampires, they come back to get you. I've recently gotten into
Friday Night Lights, and while googling pictures of Taylor Kitsch, I find out that he will be at
Big Apple Comic Con that's taking place at Chelsea Piers from October 16-18th. With who else? Jamie Campbell Bower and Cameron Bright.
Umm, meet Tim Riggins,
and Caius and Alec? I entertained the idea for a minute before realizing that I'd like to avoid embarrassing myself. Getting to meet Ashley randomly at the VMAs was different, because she just happened to be there. I'll leave it up to the other fans that are more eloquent and impassioned with their declarations. Tickets are currently on sale
here.
Now if you don't mind, I'm going to profess that I'm newly in love with Tim Riggins and he is the reason I've been a touch MIA. Bestie has been raving and talking about this show
Friday Night Lights on and off for
forever. We'd be at Starbucks and occasionally she'd remind me I needed to watch it. If I type in "Minka" in my email search I can pull up messages sent to me like this one:
um friday night light's minka kelly needs to get the f* out hahah if you watch the show you're like holy cow who in a rural community is this beautiful with the biggest heart and going to an ivy league and falls for the bad boy
So
Friday Night Lights is one of a growing list of titles Bestie tells me I need to check out on DVD (along with
Veronica Mars,
Arrested Development,
Mad Men,
True Blood and
Gossip Girl--yes,
Gossip Girl, believe that I haven't watched it before).
So finally, I ask her which one I should begin with, and she says
Friday Night Lights. Okay, my excitement over this is
eh, but we have the same tastes so I trust that there must be a reason she loves this show. I knew nothing but two things about FNL, and one of them was actually incorrect: it is
not canceled after all, but it
is about high school football.
So I popped in the DVD and fell asleep twenty minutes into the first episode. The cast is mostly unknowns (much like how
Twilight was originally) so I wasn't like "so-and-so stars in it so I want to watch him/her on the show." There seemed to be too much football for me to follow. But I think tiredness from work that morning contributed to my nap so I decided to pick up right where I left off when I came to.
I'm so glad I did because that's when it got interesting, really interesting actually, and before I knew it I developed a thing for Texas football players. Which I'd consider a healthy change--a little break from hunky vampires while I do the
New Moon countdown. Sorry, Edward, you were temporarily replaced by Tim Riggins.

This picture will mean nothing to those of you who have never seen
Friday Night Lights. It would have meant nothing to me five days ago, but trust me, if you watch, you'll get it. His hair, his voice, the way he says Lyla's name...and jeez louise, if you have a thing for gorgeous guys just appearing in your bedroom à la Edward, there is this scene in the first few episodes where you'll be satisfied.
I'm such a sucker for overly dramatic high school love triangles.

But seriously, this show is very different from other shows I've watched and now I can't shut up about it. From the way it's shot to it's honest dialogue, these characters, this community, completely grow on you, and you'll be completely swept into this otherworld bubble, much like
Twilight does in taking you away. So till 12:01AM on November 20th when I can take a trip back to Forks, for now I'll have to settle for the bubble of Dillon, Texas.
