Melissa Rosenberg Talks About Expanding New Characters, The Adult Themes, & Vampire Bella in Breaking Dawn
- Melissa Rosenberg spoke to PopcornBiz about expanding new characters in Breaking Dawn:
The previous movie adaptations of Stephanie Meyer’s vamp-lit juggernaut have gone pretty much by the book, but with the final novel “Breaking Dawn” being broken into two feature films, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg tells PopcornBiz she’s enjoying a little more leeway to add some fangy flourishes of her own.
“I did actually [get to do that], because we got to fill out the story because we're doing the next two movies,” said Rosenberg. “So there was room to play and expand on some of the characters that Stephanie introduces. That was a lot of fun.”
- She also spoke about the Adult themes (but still SEXY!):
“It's a much more grownup movie – It's an adult story,” the writer said of evolving the franchise beyond its high school origins. “The stakes are raised even higher because it's not the story of teens. It's the stories of grownups, so we're talking about marriage and children and family – and these are pretty grownup things, but sexy.”
- And finally about Bella becoming a vampire:
Rosenberg says the highlight of the story will be seeing Kristen Stewart’s character Bella become a vampire at long last. “Kristen gets to make the transformation and that is going to be so exciting to see. [Director] Bill [Condon] and I talked about it in developing this script and the screenplay. Now she's going to embody it. It's going to be so great.”

Since she does specifically say it's expanding on the new characters introduced I'm not too worried about it. I bet they'll just do like they have in the other movies (Nomads in TW for example. And showing the Voltri coming in Alice's visions.) It will be interesting to see what they do.

I can't wait. I hope we see more from Edward's perspective. And honestly, I don't want it to end. As much as I love the end of the book, I'd like the end of the movie to leave the door open for more Twilight films. If it ends, it ends and it'll a wonderful series to own and view, but I'd love to know how the story continues with Renesmee, at least get through a conclusion for Charlie, through the point where Bella outlives her parents, and the reason for Bella and Edward not being shown is easily explained in that they're not aging and had to leave the country for a while. I could see where Renesmee lives with Charlie so she can be near Jacob and I can see Edward and Bella allowing that because they understand how imprinting works, plus they know Renesmee is immortal. One more movie to make it a nice round six films in the series, that ties everything up, and if it's made soon enough, all the Cullens could still appear in it. They wouldn't have changed that much in a year or two.

@RockFan I kow what you mean. It's really bittersweet with them filming BD. I am so excited but at the same time I'll be really sad when it's over. I won't know what to do when I no longer have something Twi related to look forwad to. At least there's 2 years until BD part 2 goes to theatres and another about 4 months for the dvd.I never thought about doing a 6th movie. Since there's not a book though I highly doubt it would happen. It woud be awesome though!

Yes, I'm going to be sad too, and am grateful we at least we have another couple years before the Twiparty is over, but my fingers are still crossed they leave the door open for at least one more movie that ties everything up and lets us know how things work out for Renesmee.
