Thanks everyone. I was snapping photos like crazy while the film was going through the projector during the end credits, listening to the familiar end-credit soundtrack and trying to time it so that I'd get that final shot you see just as the tail of the whole movie left the spool. It was a blast.

Wish I knew a good answer to your question, stephani! Best that I know is: the soundtrack is photographically recorded onto the side of the strip of motion picture film at the time of shooting the scene, to create a composite, or "married" print of both the visual movie and its soundtrack counterpart. (I Wikipedia'd some of this info to find the answer!)
