It seemed like a retro jacket, so I'm not surprised it's from the 80's. That jacket must have been hard to come by.  I think it's really cool, especially since Eddie Van Halen wore the same jacket.  For all you really young people (I'm in my 40's), Eddie Van Halen is considered one of the greatest, most talented and innovative guitar players ever.  Rob is an accomplished guitar player, so I can see him wanting to emulate Eddie Van Halen.

@Nene I agree. Rob & Kristen really like vintage clothes and although this seems an unusual choice for Rob because of the strong color, I see the appeal. I, too, grew up in the 80's (can't believe it's vintage already) and you're right, Eddie was THE guitarist. I'm sure when Rob saw this jacket he just had to "go ahead and Jump" on it right away. (Is poorly referencing 80's rock songs in an attempt at humor a sign of old age?) Okay Kristen, you're turn--how about leg warmers and stirrup pants?--On second thought just borrow Rob's jacket!

I think it might have some significant meaning to his childhood, but I also think he saw it and said, "I shall buy it and I shall continue to look like a hobo."

It worked. Hobo Rob is my kind of Rob.

I think he looks more like a preppy, than a hobo.  He's so clean cut looking right now, along with a letterman's jacket, makes him look younger too,
