Music and Twilight, is there a connection?

I find it interesting that I love Stephenie's writing and world of Twilight and I love much of her taste in music. Have any of you found that to be true for you as well? Maybe because she says the music inspired much of the writing - if you like the music you'll like the saga? I've always loved alternative music, not just to be alternative, I just like the sound. I love Radiohead, Muse, and Pixies just to name a few favorites.

I thought the soundtrack was great for Twilight, although I do skip a few of the songs regularly (Go all the way, Never Think, Flightless Bird American Mouth). However, for a soundtrack, that's pretty good to only not care for a few songs and really the only one I strongly dislike is Go All the Way. That song doesn't fit Twilight at all.

So do you like the same kind of music as Stephenie too? Do you think there's a connection in her writing and the music since they are both creative arts?

Zhaan! How can you skip Never Think? It's R. Pattz (sigh)!!

I love muse, and i kind of like how some of their lyrics are woven into the books. I myself LOVE the soundtrack, (especially Spotlight and Full Moon) but there are some songs i don't believe add much. (creepy techno song, Eyes On Fire.)

But here's where i'm worried. Catherine Hardwicke is an indie chick director. Music is a big part of her movies. The music chosen went really well with Twilight, and i couldn't have been more thrilled. BUT...Now Chris Weitz is director. I don't really want American Pie to be indicative of his musical taste or influence in his movies. I thought the music in Twilight helped make it great. What if Weitz puts in like, Hannah Montana or... (god forbid) like, Fall Out Boy or some other crappy sell-out mainstream band? Sorry if i sound like a music snob, (which i guess i kind of am,) but i really don't think "I Kissed A Girl" is going to sell the relationship between Jacob and Bella.

So I agree 100% and had those same thoughts. The Pixies were/are my favorite band of all time. And in high school I was one of "those" punk/goth kids. Have always loved alternative music. I can't change my Sirius satellite radio from Alt nation-channel # 21. I love most of her inspiration music, that I know of. Not sure what is inspiring her now. I assume it's her myspace stuff. I would like to know what music was inspiring for each book. This is going to sound crazy but I would like to listen to what she was listening to and read it at the same time. What a stalker!!! No but I think it would add to the reading that I already love so much. Somehow on my own I managed to find music that I liked with each book so you know Stephenie has got to have the same.

Aimee - I just don't like how he mumbles the lyrics. Speak up man! If he sang it out with soul I think I would like it OK. I don't hate it, the melody is OK, it's just the mumbling I don't like.

Tanya - good concerns with New Moon. Let's hope Weitz notices the popularity of the first soundtrack.

Yay another PIxies fan! I just saw them 2 years ago on their "reunion tour" or whatever they were calling it. :) I've got to go check out SM's myspace page now and see what she's listening to.

Alison, I completely agree about Alt Nation 21; my radio is always tuned in to that one. I really hope they choose some great music for NM. Twilight's soundtrack is great, in my opinion, and I'd like to see more for NM. For those interested: SM has her breakdown of playlists for each book on her website. It's pretty interesting to see which songs she picked.

Oh I saw those and thought they were fan made. Now I really need to check them out.

I tottally agree with Tanya- if Weitz actually chose that kind of music for NM, that would be just plain horrific. I mean, I kind of like those songs, but that kind of music in NM? No way.
I'd never heard of Muse either before I read Twilight. And now, because of Stephenie, I don't like pop music as much as I used to. Linkin Park, MY Chemical Romance, etc, are my new favourite bands. And I don't pretend to like music, just because it's cool, or because someone else likes it.
I loved the way the music worked with Twilight (and I think I can safely say, everybody loved Supermassive Black H*** for the baseball scene), and I'll miss that. All we can do is hope that NM isn't ruined by the director's taste in music.
