Check it out. I was flying home from Australia today on Qantas and in the seat-back in front of me there is a magazine of duty-free stuff you can buy from Qantas by ordering it right on the plane. It's a very well-done catalogue, using gorgeous glossy stock--totally top-end. I like to flip through these types of ads to get a feel for where the advertisers predict the market trend is going, which emotions they're trying to hit, which images they think will sell their product.
So I'm flipping through the pages and I come across this ad for a new Guerlain-Homme cologne called "Animal Instinct." I wasn't really looking closely as I was flipping through the magazine, and at first thought it WAS Robert Pattinson. But it's not.
It's a gorgeous male Brazilian model named Renne Castrucci. (BTW, he was one of the male models I thought would be great to cast as a lesser Volturi--is he Italian-looking, or what!). I happen to think he is gorgeous, but when I first looked at the ad I did NOT think it was Renne Castrucci. I thought it was RP as Edward.
Look how he is posed. His eyes are really cranked upward so that the white of the eye shows below the pupil (a very beguiling characteristic of RP, IMO), the eyebrows are lush, the way his face appears to be shaped (more like RP), even the bend in his nose is accentuated (which it sometimes is not in his ads).
Clearly, this is an attempt to capitalize on the Edward character RP created. Ads take looks from what's popular all the time, but this was really, IMO, a direct appeal to those who find the RP-Edward character buyable.
Has anybody else seen any other mimcry of RP-Edward's look?
