According to the
Calgary Herald, filming of the Twilight sequel New Moon is set to start filming Monday, March 23.
Although Twilight was filmed in Oregon and Washington, filming for the second of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling books has moved across the border into Canada. According to Vince Porter, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Film and Television for Oregon, filmmakers had concerns the state wouldn't have the production resources necessary to support two Twilight sequels made back-to-back; Eclipse, the third installment, is already set for a June 30, 2010 release, just months after New Moon hits theaters Nov. 20.
Another reason filming of New Moon has headed to British Columbia is because the lower Canadian dollar will be cheaper than filming in the U.S. Porter estimates producers spent $20 million in Oregon while filming Twilight. Sources say New Moon has a $50 million budget -- an increase from the $37 million Twilight budget -- and would have drawn in even more revenue for Oregon.
