Has anyone else ever had trouble getting to the point of re-reading New Moon? I love Twilight so I re-read it before the movie came out to have it fresh in my mind, but I haven't been able to bring myself to re-read New Moon. I got into a depression the first time I read it that lasted for a week and was really intense. I have never had a book affect me that way before. I think it was a combination of things. The memory of how powerful first love is, especially when you are a teenager. Also, it brought back sad personal memories. But more than anything Stephenie just has a powerful writing style when it comes to allowing you to live vicariously via the main character - meaning Bella. I could really feel her pain.

Have you re-read New Moon? Is it easier the second time?

After reading New Moon for the second (and third) time, it's gotten a lot easier to enjoy. The first time, I couldn't wait to get to the end of the book because I'd read the spoilers. The second time, I was more able to enjoy the story because I'd finished the whole series and knew Jacob's part in Bella's life. The last time I read it I felt like I could really appreciate Meyer's ability to pull on my emotions. I read Nicholas Sparks too and he's all about pulling on emotions. But I don't cry easily, so maybe that's why I like it?

I suggest reading it again anyway. I remember Meyer saying that you have to read it twice to enjoy it.

It is sad everytime I read it, I will however say that I was able to enjoy more after the first time.

I got into a bad funk the whole day I read it. I had to keep reading to get the the happy stuff and still cried on and off with happy parts. My girls wanted to listen to book 2 in the car so we bought it on itunes plugged our ipod in and it wasn't long and I was crying on and off all the way to San Diego. OMG so sad, so hard. It put a h*** in my chest too. I so relate. We didn't finish it in the car and now I feel I need to finish the audio. Somehow the audio feels different.

Cried just the same the second time. Shhh, don't tell anyone that! It was better the second time, I could really focus on and enjoy the interactions of Bella and Jacob. It's easier the second time cuz you know it's going to be ok.

for me it's that it hits close to home; having been in love and then had my heart broken -- reading that is very painful. having words articulating the pain.. yeah. it sucks. haha. but i'm just now reading it again for the second time, though i've read all the others four times over. stephenie encourages fans to read it more than once because most of us sped-red through the book to get to edward (i know that certainly applies to me) and didn't get to fully appreciate how beautiful bella and jacob's relationship is. so i'm biting the bullet and doing it again. if you'd like to commiserate, i'm here!
