I think he was talking about all of the merchandise that has his face on it.  Due to being Edward his image ends up on Burger King crowns and all kinds of toys.  Think about it, if that was you wouldn't you get tired of seeing your face on everything?

 

I think it's telling that the author included that bit about Martin.  It is a direct comparison to how Rob is treated.   The paparazzi hound him, taking away his privacy and making it difficult to defend oneself.  And then people get angry when he doesn't do everything they want.  It makes freedom a hard thing to come by.  I think Rob just wants to rest, take a break from all the hysteria.  This interview was heartbreaking.

Perhaps I have completely over reacted and didn't grasp his message.  I will say that I am not a Twilight fan just to be part of a group I love the books and movies and the story as I know the rest of you do.  I was taken back by that comment however I certainly understand them being deprived of a normal life and most of all privacy.  I have watched red carpet events and seen pics of him with fans and you are absolutely correct he does go out of his way.  I guess that is why I was taken off guard by what I read or "read too much into". I may have jumped the gun and no Pennybug I guess I didn't read it all I only read what was on the Vanity Fair website.  I adore the entire cast and before the saga began I didn't know who they were.  I am certain most of you would agree that you watch other movies they have done because you like there acting not because you want to watch their Twilight characters..  okay enough said I am rambling thanks for all of the replies and explanation and for opening my eyes.

I feel really bad for Rob and Kristen because everything they say or do is picked apart and criticized and they are stalked by papz who have no respect for personal space. I love Rob and Kristen as actors and also as the people they are; they are very down to earth.  I think they are sometimes misunderstood; they aren't looking for "popularity" they just want to be who they are and enjoy their jobs as actors. It is obvious to me that they love each other and will do what is necessary to keep that love intact through anything that comes their way.

i agree with j lopez... if kristen had said a fraction of what rob said she would be crucified in the media and with the fans.  double standard.
