Roger Ebert thinks Kristen Stewart should be 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

Interestingly he mentions Carey Mulligan and Daniel Craig have been cast although there is no official confirmation about it.

I suppose at its base this is a police procedural (although the police are on the wrong track all along). But Lisbeth and Mikael are quirky individuals and make up their detective work as they go, so it's hard to predict the story arc. It's also an advantage that the actors are not conventional star types. That will be the tricky part in the Hollywood versions. Carey Mulligan and Daniel Craig have been cast for David Fincher's 2012 remake of “Dragon,” and they're very good, but are they too mainstream? How about, oh, say, Ed Norton and the non-"Twilight" Kristen Stewart?

OK-It killed me but I was outta town for business and JUST SAW Eclipse today. IT was phenomenal. I went with my friends (who love the books, but may not be as fanatical as me) and they thought Kristen was better but still think she's annoying. I tried to say that she is just awkward and they agreed that she was the best in this movie than any other. But I have to say, I was adamant in defending her and her acting creditably! I will be posting other places of my obsession with this film and how UNBELIEVABLE it was. just had to say this.. :)

evre since i first herd someone mention Kristen for this part ive found it hard to picture it being anyone but her, ive seen the swedish version and the person playing lisbeth did a great job but i dnt think there was the right agility in movement that you picture in the boks an i can so picture kristen nailing that. i realy hope this is wrong an that kristen gets the part she'd be fantasitc. not quite sure what i think about daniel yet, there no dout he would be good but seomhow i never thought of him when considering the character

KayC.. I agree with you.. & love that you defended Kristen, bcuz I am a total supporter of hers & defend her to the fullest. She is awkward, which makes her so appealing.. she isn't a SQUARE CONFORMIST like most of the actors in Hollywood. She is a beautiful person & an amazing actress.. Keep defending her & stop watching these movies w/ppl who hate instead of appreciate! LOL.. On another note I think that my girl KStew is perrrrfect for The Girl w/The Dragon Tattoo, which she said in an interview she is dying to play.. GOOO TEAM KStew!
