Summit to work on another vamp movie...with Brad Pitt

Struck by the Twilight fever, Brad Pitt (with Summit), is reportedly producing a movie on the most famous vampire of all time - Dracula! [Brad has a bit of experience with vampires himself, having starred in 1994’s Interview With the Vampire.]

According to the Hollywood Reporter:

After exploring the romantic angst of vampires in "Twilight," Summit Entertainment is developing an action-oriented take on the most famous of the fanged: Dracula. This one already comes with its own heartthrob in the form of Brad Pitt.

The film is called Vlad, written by 29-year-old British actor Charlie Hunnam (pictured).
[Hunnam stars in FX’s “Sons of Anarchy,” recently picked up for a third season, and is shooting “The Ledge,” which Matthew Chapman is directing and stars Peter Sarsgaard, Evan Rachel Wood and Terrence Howard. He is repped by WME and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.]

Negotiations are on their way with music video and photographer Anthony Mandler (from Rihanna's Russian Roulette vid among others) to direct the project. Pitt is producing, not acting, with Dede Gardner via the duo's Plan B Entertainment production shingle.

"Vlad" centers on Dracula as a young prince; he is known to history as Vlad the Impaler, the man behind the Dracula myth.

Summit picked up "Vlad" awhile ago, developing it quietly, but when execs saw Mandler's reel, the project got a shot in the arm.

With "Vlad," Summit hopes to make a visually edgy and radical period movie that also will break a new talent.

Hmmm, I wonder who will Summit groom to play Vlad, another Rob Pattz probably... well, they did gave us Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz, Taylor Lautner, Jackson Rathbone - total dreamboats!!! - it'll be another challenge for Summit to get another vamp actor who can make us swoon (notwithstanding that Dracula can be a bit mean). ;)

I read Dracula...he's a pretty gnarly, ugly character. Even the Dracula that Gary Oldman portrayed was a nowhere near the book's Dracula. And personally, I thought Interview with a Vampire was really bad...so this doesn't really hold my faith just yet.

Unless they put a good-looking actor, like Rob, to play Vlad, and with Plan B supporting Summit on this, who knows, this movie might be real interesting.... ;)

It`s not a difference. Romanians are leraning in school about other country myts, geography and history but even if you like vampires you should know at least that the myth is for Vlad Tepes who lived in 1431-1476. He imposed onesty and order, he was very cruel and used to murder his enemys by pulling them in impaled. Bram Stoker`s book "Dracula" is fiction but inpired in an indirect way from the legends of Transilcania, about the inmmortal Vlad who find a way to live through myths as a vampire.
