What are they about?
The objective is simple: We WANT Bel Ami here in the US!!!
In case you’ve been living under a rock (if you’re here, we’re assuming you haven’t been), Bel Ami is a period piece based on the novel by Guy de Maupassant. It stars our beloved Robert Pattinson along side the amazing actresses Christina Ricci, Uma Thurman, and Kristen Scott Thomas.
The movie was filmed in the early months of 2010, but for nearly two years, there was virtually nothing (and we mean NOTHING) official that could be found about the film. There were a few release dates tossed around, but nothing that ever turned out to be true.
Fast forward to December 2011 – Studio Canal (via MSN UK) releases the first official trailer and women across the world go CRAZY. That’s a pretty tame and watered down word to describe the excitement felt throughout the fandom. If you follow anyone on Twitter, Facebook, or one of the numerous awesome fan sites dedicated to Rob, you know that was a GLORIOUS day. We just couldn’t get enough of DuRob (Rob + Georges Duroy – his character). We felt like our torturous wait for Bel Ami was finally coming to and end. Clearly we had no idea about the maddening confused ride we were about to board.
While many countries have received release dates, the US has almost completely been left in the dark and we’re not sure why. Sony (who, from the best of our knowledge holds the distribution rights to the film) has nothing about the movie listed on their site. Yet, Fandango AND Moviefone AND IMDB have the movie listed as being released in the US on March 2nd, 2012. This date had to come from somewhere, didn’t it? How can three separate major movie sites be listing a movie release date if they’re not sure? Isn’t that a tad misleading?
To clear up the confusion, many fans have begun to attempt to contact Sony with almost no success. There has been a reported case of one fan getting an email back with a “no” for March 2nd and a “yes” for either July or September. But there has also been a case of another fan getting a ‘”yes” from Fandango (props and extreme thanks if you’re either one of these people).
We’re frustrated and downright starting to get upset over the lack of answers. But most of all, we’re getting pretty disheartened. We just want an official word on what is going on with the US release date. We don’t think that is asking a lot. We’re so incredibly excited about this movie and are already jumping out of our skin with what we’ve already seen. We just know that Rob is going to blow everyone away with his performance and can’t wait for the world to see it.
Sony may not know it (yet), but we’re a fandom full of passionate people. We proudly support Rob in everything that he does (big and small) because not only does he bring so many of us all kinds of happiness, but because we believe in him and what he does. We’ll be there to support him in what will hopefully be a long and successful career. Bel Ami is certainly no exception.
What Can YOU Do to Help Reach Out to Sony?
As “fans” of this page and campaign, we hope that you can support us in sending this message to Sony:
Can we please have an official update on the status of Bel Ami’s release date in the United States? We would sincerely appreciate any information you can provide us.
