Taylor Lautner joins Julia Roberts and Ashton Kutcher in romantic comedy Valentine's Day

Taylor Lautner may be coming out of the dusky twilight to work in several different films of various genres. This would prevent him from being typecast as just a teen sensation and allow him to branch out into more challenging roles.

The NY Post says that director, Garry Marshall has no less than three projects on the table right now and he may want Lautner for at least one of them, maybe more.

His first film would be “Valentine’s Day” a romantic comedy with an ensemble cast of major stars. This formula is reminiscent of the large ensemble cast in “He’s Just Not That Into You” with many subplots going on simultaneously as the characters intertwine in each others lives somehow. Seems complicated, but it works. So far, it is rumored that Valentine’s Day will star Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel, Bradley

Cooper, Jennifer Garner and Ashton Kutcher. This could be a great film for Lautner as the pressure of carrying the film would not be all on his shoulders and the weight of the film’s success would be shared among the entire cast.
Again, it would separate him from his Jacob character in the Twilight film series and open doors for a more eclectic range of work. The Post was quoted as saying “Taylor is in talks to play Anne’s mail room assistant boyfriend since she’s the most age-appropriate on-screen lovah”. (sic)

The New York Times reported that because last year’s valentine’s day release “He’s Just Not That Into You” which was a groundbreaking multi-plotted, large cast, romantic comedy that grossed an estimated $94 million for New Line Cinema/Warner Brothers, the film industry is quick to follow the leader on a similar formula for proven success.
Usually, the entertainment business is known to take their time developing anything creative or groundbreaking that has not been proven to work, but this time they are jumping to get Valentine’s Day in production as it is a similar genre and could be released on Valentine’s Day possibly repeating the prior holiday release’s financial success.
Audiences will have to wait until next February to see how Lautner fares in a different role and in a new genre.
