Taylor Lautner began acting in 2001 at age nine after his martial arts instructor suggested that Taylor try out an audition for a Burger King commercial being shot in Los Angeles. His first appearance was in the TV movie Shadow Fury. He then landed guest roles in Summerland, The Bernie Mac Show, My Wife and Kids, and Danny Phantom. In 2005 Lautner hit the big screen for The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl (a film which enabled him to show case his skills in martial arts). Voice-overs are also popular in Taylor’s repertoire with shows such as Danny Phantom, What’s New, Scooby-Doo?, Silas and Brittany, and Which Way is Up?. After his role as Sharkboy, Lautner landed the part of Eliot, the son of the Baker’s rivals in Cheaper by the Dozen 2. His big time motion picture break came with the movie Twilight when he landed the role of Jacob Black, a Native American and werewolf. His next role is reprising as Jacob Black in New Moon.
Taylor Daniel Lautner was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is the son of Deborah and Dan Lautner. He is of French, Dutch, German, and Native American (specifically Odawa and Potawatomi) ancestry. At six Taylor started martial arts and he was soon invited to train with seven-time world karate champion Mike Chat. When he was eight, he was asked to represent his country in the twelve years and under division in the World Karate Association where he proved himself by becoming the Junior World Forms and Weapons champion, winning three gold medals. Flourishing in the martial arts circuit in 2003, at only eleven years old, he was ranked number one in the world for NASKA's Black Belt Open Forms, Musical Weapons, Traditional Weapons and Traditional Forms and by the age of twelve, he won Junior World Championships. Lautner tested out of high school during the 2008-2009 school year and now is taking college classes. In his spare time, Taylor loves playing football and baseball, and he is a fan of the Texas Longhorns and Michigan Wolverines. He is a part of the Hart Baseball Program in the Los Angeles area, where he plays center field and second base. Taylor's worst habit is that most of the time he is tapping his foot, and he doesn't even realize it until someone tells him to stop. Taylor likes Mexican and Chinese food. Before auditioning for the film Twilight, Taylor had never read the books which it is based upon. He also had to get used to pushing a wheelchair for the movie Twilight, so it would look like he had been doing it all his life like his character had. Since his character Jacob in Twilight is Quileute, Taylor met some real Quileute Indian tribal members and interviewed one of them. Taylor's dog, Roxy, is a Maltese.
(on his favorite quote from Twilight) “It's not in the first book, but the quote I love the most is Jacob's quote, "Does my half being naked bother you?" That quote just cracks me up. Because you know, that's when he's shirtless, not wearing a top - we'll have to wait to see what he looks like.”
