To true Edward never thought of himself before Bella, where as Jacob was always thinking of himself ansd getting Bella rather than thinking about what he may be doing to Bella's feelings in fact he never thought about anyone before himself until he layed eyes on Renesme

True Edward put Bella before himself and Jacob put himself before Bella it wasn't until he layed eyes on Renesme that he put someone before himself

The ONLY thing I can agree with Jacob about is the fact that Bella would be,basically,be giving up her soul and damning herself for love. And that,in a way,she would be killing herself. However,all the danger he put her in-riding motorcycles,introducing her to the idea of cliffdiving,etc, put her life in danger anyway.As I said,I know he was not there when she decided to cliffdive.But he made it sound so intriguing to her(his exact words-"It's a rush") even though he knew what kind of emotional state she was in and that she would do ANYTHING to keep her mind occupied.Even if it was dangerous and lifethreatening. He basically did ANYTHING to get her to like him and spend time with him,without thinking of her safety.

Edward,however, is constantly concerned with her safety.He was evening willing to give her up and leave her if it meant keeping her safe. He would rather have lived without her and keep her alive than stay with her and put her in danger.Of course,eventually,he realized it was a mistake and he came back. The point is that Edward put HER before himself. Jacob puts HIMSELF before her

i completely agree with your analysis of both of these characters, i now can see why so many girls orginally wanted Edward and some still do, i mean why wouldn't you want a guy who would be willing to put you before himself which is such a rare thing these days.
