According to Entertainment Weekly,Breaking Dawn - Part 2 pulled in an estimated $141.2 million this weekend - just above what last year's The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 nabbed, $138.1 million, but just below The Twilight Saga: New Moon's $142.8 million.
Internationally, the film grossed $199.6 million over the opening weekend as well, putting its first week totals at $340.9 million.
This affirms those predictions which estimateThe Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 will gross at or near the $700 million mark.
It is uncertain at this time, though, whether Part 2 will reach the domestic Twilight Saga high set by The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($300 million).
In either case, it's still quite a strong opening for a fifth installment to a surprise success franchise!
Breaking Dawn - Part 2 of course dominated the weekend, beating Skyfall by nearly $100 million.
According to Box Office Mojo, Breaking Dawn - Part 2's opening weekend intake makes it the eighth highest opening of all time and fourth for the year (behind The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Hunger Games).
Also, with this, the Twilight Saga became the first ever franchise to have three movies earn $130 million plus in three days. Another record - albeit a small one - for the Twilight series!
