The Vampire Diaries: First Impression
I’ve only heard of Vampire Diaries in passing. Just like Blood & Chocolate, I haven’t read the book – yet that is. Once I get the chance to take a breath, I have a bit of a book list to tackle.First off, did you notice the leading promotion for not doing drugs? And in the end it was all about not being a slut because it doesn’t get you attention. Though both are good things people.
Interesting things so far:
Did the vampire dazzle the secretary? I’m getting a bit of a True Blood feeling here.
The vampire can be out in the light, but changes appearance when he gets hungry or angry, but his eyes don’t change color.
These vampires have super speed, great hearing, and can jump high.
Stefan has already met the love of his life.
No werewolves yet, but witches? Really? Haven’t seen those in awhile.
Stefan is living off of squirrels? Why not go for deer like the Cullens?
I thought Stefan would break more of the garage when Damon threw him against it.
As far as the actors: I’m not so sure about the lead actress, but, who knows, maybe I’ll grow to like her just like Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang from Smallville. She does seem a bit young, but then again she is playing a teenager.
I miss Ian Somerhalder as Boone from LOST. It’s hard to see him as the bad boy and not so impressed by his haircut. Paul Wesley, on the other hand, is much hotter, especially since we see him take his shirt of within the first 30 minutes of the show – not bad I might add.
Okay, so I have been enjoying the shows coming out of the CW. I never had the cable to see shows in high school while it was still the WB. I am a big fan of Smallville, so I am a bit disappointed that The Vampire Diaries took its Thursday night at 8 spot and is now on Fridays, but I'll live thanks to my VHS (oh yeah) recorder. I also enjoyed Privileged and am sad they got rid of it. As usual, this show had some great music from today like Here We Go Again by Mat Kearney, Thinking of You by Katy Perry, and Never Say Never by the Fray. Although I am a big Twilight fan, I'm down with the vampire/werewolf/witch thing. How's says there's not room for everyone? I think I'll give this show a chance.
Here’s a plot summary of the first episode from CW:
Four months after a tragic car accident killed their parents, 17-year-old Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and her 15-year-old brother, Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), are still adjusting to their new reality. Elena finds comfort with her best friend Bonnie (Katerina Graham), frenemy Caroline (Candice Accola), and former boyfriend Matt (Zach Roerig), but Jeremy is trying to figure out why Matt's sister, Vicki (Kayla Ewell), is suddenly rejecting him and hanging out with his rival, Tyler (Michael Trevino). As the school year begins, Elena and her friends are fascinated by a handsome and mysterious new student, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Stefan and Elena are immediately drawn to one another, but Elena doesn't realize that Stefan is hiding a dark, deadly secret – the fact that he's a vampire. At a nighttime bonfire party, Elena and Stefan are getting to know each other when chaos erupts after Vicki is attacked and left bleeding from a savage bite to the neck. Fearing that he knows who is responsible for the attack, Stefan finds that his older brother, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), has returned to town. Now these two vampire brothers – one good, one evil – are at war for Elena's soul and for the souls of her friends, family and all the residents of Mystic Falls, Virginia.

I actually liked it. Thought it was kind of funny how Stephan reminded me of Edward by the way he talked.. but it intrigued me. I plan on watching the next episode. I think it will pick up from there. I really am digging Damon.. he's HOT. =]

I have it tivo'd to watch this afternoon. However, I read the books(all currently released). I am hoping that the show does not follow the books too closely. It gets pretty weird. The first few books were okay, but towards the end of the currently released books, they get confusing and weird and I almost quit reading them because of it. LJ Smith should have quit while they she was ahead, but I think she decided to write more after know that the books had been optioned as a series.

Stefan is cute but I really think Damon is smokin lol...I love his eyes, they are so piercing and beautiful. There was this one scene in the episode that I noticed was very twilight-esque...when Stefan and Elena were talking about her relationship with her ex boyfriend and how there was no passion. When they started talking about passion, his face changed to the "vampire" look and she asked him if there was something wrong with his eyes. He looked down and mumbled no, that it must be something else (I forget exactly what he said) and turns away and leaves abruptly. Anyway, this scene reminded me alot of the scene in Twilight where Bella and Edward are in the hallway at school and Bella notices Edward's eyes are a different color and he kind of mumbles that it must be the fluorescence, then he kind of looks away leaves abruptly.

I liked the show. Its my inbetween Twilight / True Blood fix. Stefan was pretty cute, he can be my Edward lookalike.

The show was ok I mean we would have to see the next few episodes to really see if it's worth watching. It is a cross between twilight/true blood but a more toned version lol hey atleast we have another weekly fix of Vamps lol

Well, I already can tell it is not going to be like the books. Elena has a little sister, not a brother in the books. She was a pivotal point in some of the "blackmails" against her. Hopefully, that means the shows will outshine the books~!

I read Volume one "Awakening", TV didn't emphasize on the Homecoming Dance and changed Vicki's eriee encounter scene different from the book. Thought Stefan tried to act "too much" like Edward when saying his lines. Stefan looks more like the villian vampire than good, liked Damon's acting. Interesting concept of Stefan needing to wear a ring to save himself in the sunlight.
Show is "slow"...but will watch next episodes, just for the fun of it! Will Elena write in her journal forever? She'll need several journals to continue her writing skills!
So far, I am Sticking like glue to The Twilight Saga, no matter what Vampire shows come on!
Stephanie Meyer is #1 in my book!

I watched mainly to see how close it was to TWILIGHT, but found I actually enjoyed it. I wasn't fond of Elena, but liked the others. I will definitely watch the next episode, and hopefully Elena will grow on me.
