It's a sad song, but I think most all songs inspired or about vampires have a sadness to them. Becoming a vampire may seem cool to everyone, but the solitude would drive most people mad. I am not sure what "genre" would best fit Twilight, but to me this particular song shows the internal conflict of being a predator and knowing that no matter how much you may admire or love someone that you can never have that precious thing without condemning them to the same existence as yourself.
