Twilight Saga & The Vampire Diaries...Any Thoughts?

Hey everyone! I stumbled upon a preview for The Vampire Diaries on IMDB.com. I couldn't help but notice similarities between it and Twilight (human girl and vampire guy fall for each other; other vampire has it out for said human girl, etc). I know the show is based on a book series as well. Has anyone else seen this preview or read the books? I'm not quite sure how I feel about it or if I plan to tune in. Honestly, I tend to shy away from vampire stories that aren't Twilight-related; I don't want my perception of vampires tarnished by something else, lol ;). Any thoughts? Comment by Alyssa on June 7, 2009 at 9:15pm: I have read the series and while it was good and I will be watching the show (what can I say, I'm a sucker for vampires), I have to say that I did not enjoy it as much as the Twilight series. After reading Twilight I've read just about every vampire series out there; Vampire Diaries, Vampire Academy, House of Night, Sookie Stackhouse, Evernight, Vampire Kisses. This series ranks 4th behind Twilight, Sookie Stackhouse, & Vampire Academy. The premise of the story is two brothers (the vampires) who love the same girl (the one who changed them into a vampire) who dies, or so they think. They then come to hate each other and go their separate ways. When Damien moves to the US and settles into a new city he stumbles upon a new girl who looks exactly like his old love except she is human. His brother comes to town and they begin to fight over her along with a few unexpected twists along the way. It's worth the time to read if you're interested!

but...
I dont like it. Hate the female Lead. She is stuck up & spoiled.
It is taking me forever to get through it.

Hopefully the show will be better.

Comment by Jamie on June 7, 2009 at 10:46pm: I just finished the last book, The Return: Nightfall. While they weren't Twilight (nothing is), I did enjoy the series. I found them to be easy reads. I had no idea there was going to be a series in the fall. I watched the trailers, and while I'm disappointed that they couldn't get the casting right-Elena is blond, Damon has black eyes, and stephan green-I think it looks like it will be a fun show. I'll definitely watch it. I'm just wondering where Bonnie is. Or was the girl with her at school Bonnie? Glad to have read that they will have a Meredith. Can you imagine if they didn't?? Whoa. I agree it's similar to Twilight, but not totally. And if you like/love vampires, it's a good way to get a fix while we're waiting for Nov. 20. :)
