I'm opposed to The Vampire Diaries. That fandom's fans rarely ever consider the book series. Most of the time it's just the TV show they care about. Plus, the author of the books was completely screwed over because now she's legally not allowed to write more of the series. They've hire someone else to write the books which are only based on the TV canon and not the book series. That's not fair to the LJ Smith. I've read the books and I don't feel any connection between me and the characters. Same with the TV show. It's too jumpy. This person's a witch, that person's a vampire, a werewolf, etc., etc. I think before the end of the TV show most of the main cast will be a supernatural creature of some sort. I also don't really like the aspect of the moonstone and all the other objects the show has. I feel like the writers are trying to make the show as complicated as possible just to keep viewer's interest intact.
I like both but I agree with Melissa. They don't care about the books anymore. They only care about the show. They went beyond the book and added their own ideas. It's just wrong. At least try and stay with the book's idea. Which is not what they did.
