'Twilight' series reigns on so many charts, so will 'New Moon' be the number one film of 2009?

could The Twilight Saga: New Moon be the number one film of 2009? Well, a look at the numbers might be a good start.

For starters, the film currently weighing in as the highest total gross heavy-hitter film for 2009 is Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, with a very impressive $402 million. Transformers was both released in theaters and to DVD/Blu-ray this year. When released to DVD/Blu-ray, as the above-referenced Variety article pointed out, it brought in sales of over 7.5 million copies. Still, it couldn't break Twilight's stance as the number one DVD/Blu-ray sales film for the year (yet, at least). Following is Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince whose midnight release sales were in the mega-millions and whose total gross is a little over $300 million.

So, basically, if The Twilight Saga: New Moon's one and a half months of availability in 2009 can bring in roughly 100 million viewers, it could certainly see victory on this chart as well; but will it?

Comment by Mel on October 29, 2009 at 9:33pm: lmfao no way. those numbers up there are only how much it made in america, not overall. harry potter made $928.9 million and transformers $832.7 mill. twilght total=$383,693,303 ..not a chance it looks like it.

There are a bunch more fans now, not just a bunch of tweens anymore. It is more wide spread than twilight was and even guy friendly. But guess we will see!

there is more fans now, not just the young and i have got my friends into it since twilight came out
me and best friend are gonna c over 50 times at the cinema-so i think it will be fine
and in australia all the cinemas have been sold out in advanced ticket sales

twilight made so much
when it was low budget and consdierably unknown by the media
it made ALOT of money
can u imagine how much it will make now with all the hype and money
it WILL be bigger than transformers
