Twilight VS Harry Potter. A Twifans Member opinion on the movies.

I had this conversion with my nephews and brother Wednesday night after we came home from watching Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Now most people would argue that Harry Potter is better than Twilight, hey I happen to like both series, even though I am not liking HP at the moment.

But I think Twilight is better as it follows more on the book than Harry Potter does in the movies that are produced.

Since Goblet of Fire, the Harry Potter movies have gone astray seriously. It is like you are watching the movie version of a Harry Potter fan fiction version of the books. It is nothing close to what the books are about. They have drop some very serious key scenes that are critical to the plot and added scenes that are not even in the books themselves.

If you watched the latest Harry Potter film and then go read the book itself, you have major plot gaffs about how Harry is not to leave the Dursley's home and yet there he is wandering about the underground and subways without a bodyguard or at least one of the Order. In the Order of The Phoenix, Harry was picked up by the members of that order, in Half-Blood Prince(the Book), Dumbledore picked him up at the Dursleys, and took him to the home of the new potion master. Not in the underground. Major plot change there.

Twilight has not gone seriously astray like that. The movies basically stay true to the books themselves and that's what draws the people in with Twilight. It has plot that you can basically pause a scene on the movie and go to the books and find that scene or as close to that scene as possible. Though yes, they did add the fight scene, everyone would be wondering how it would go off and how did the Cullens defeat James.

But I find that Twilight is better than Harry Potter truthfully speaking. Twilight has plot, romance, adventure and angst while Harry Potter has adventure and angst but no serious plot or romance.

Agree or disagree with me on this?

i do agree but.... Twilight was made more for the Teens and some adults, where Harry Potter aims more toward the kids.

I am in total agreement with you! I love both series ~ but am becoming more and more disappointed in the HP movies. I understand the time constraints in making the movies ~ but the are making some serious character flaws... In the HBP ~ the scene atop the tower... they leave Harry unfrozen and still he does NOTHING???
NEVER!! Harry HAD to be frozen or he would have tried to take them all on! It's so out of character!

I like both harry potter movies and defiantly twilight so i immediately agree with you. i haven't read the harry potter series yet so i cant say anything about bout the books but if you only say both movies series (new moon soon) you could obviously say HP has awesome special affects and that it is exciting and twilight was really romantic and fun. but all together, i find both amazingly successful movie and they are both great!

Well said Jess. I enjoyed all the HP books and the movies (Still to see HBP) but I still love Twilight and that is only because of Edward Cullen and the other vampires. As far as the writers go, there is no comparison. Rowling is first class. Meyers not so much.

@ Tiffany Swan: when we're talking about special effects: don't forget that Twilight was made with a very low budget.. what they did with it was marvelous. Catherine did a great job.
It makes me tired that people always compare Harry Potter with Twilight. Those are two complete different things. and both great.
tho i love Twilight more *wink*

I am only now reading Harry Potter and whilst I like both books a large amount, I find that I am enjoying Harry Potter more for several reasons:
-In Twilight, I found myself waiting for them to fall in love, I knew it was going to happen, I waited for a while, nothing much happened until halfway through the book. Whereas with Harry Potter, I found it hard not to put down the book because of constant action.
- Writing styles. I usually prefer first person and past tense. But the fact that Rowling writes in 3rd person has told me that 3rd person is just as good as 1st person. One thing I think 3rd person has on 1st is that there is no stress of knowing who it is telling the story, I found that a bit in Twilight. And Stephenie Meyer didn't plan, she just wrote and wrote and wrote. JK Rowling planned.
-Plot. Both have good plots, they just appeal to different audiences. This is a big issue in the debate between the two of them. Harry Potter appeals to a larger audience than Twilight. Harry Potter incorporates (from what I have read so far) mystery, action (and it soon will -I am only on the chamber of secrets) and romance. Twilight has romance. heartbreak (New Moon) and some action. Please let me know if I have left anything out.

Finally: Catherine the Vampire has nothing I disagree with. It has been said before, but I will repeat it because it is true, the only competition is when you look at every element of the text.

As for the films -they are good for the budgets they have, like Floor has said. When I have read the whole Harry Potter series I will be able to re-watch all the films and decide for myself whether or not they did I good job.
