Last month, the new film Water for Elephants was released here in the US that showed the ugly side of the abuse and mistreatment of animals in circuses. In the plot of the film, an elephant is beaten bloody with a device that is meant to “train” animals to comply with human commands. As difficult as it was to watch those scenes, audience members were assured that the abuse featured in the film was not real and that no animals were harmed in the making of the film. Today, we get to see some very upsetting video footage that claims to show some of the same abuse featured in the film happening in real life to the elephant star of Water for Elephants. This video, released by Animal Defenders International, claims to show the mistreatment of Taithe elephant (called Rosie in the film) as she was being prepped for the film. Be warned, the video below may be upsetting to watch.
