Will they or won't they film Breaking Dawn in Brazil?

There have been mad rumors flying all over the net on the will they/won't they debate on filming Breaking Dawn in Brazil, as nothing has been set in stone. See Summits statement at the bottom on the situation.

According to the AFP:

“The cast and crew of the hit “Twilight” vampire movie series may abandon plans to shoot scenes from the final movie in Rio after a deadly shoot out there last weekend between police and a gang who took hostages in an upmarket tourist hotel.

Riofilme, the city’s agency for promoting movie production, told AFP that “Twilight”‘s US production company Summit Entertainment was in talks with Rio de Janeiro state officials who were trying to convince them to stay.

The original plans were for scenes from the movie “Breaking Dawn,” the fourth and final installment in the vampire fantasy, to be played out in the Brazilian city which is famed in equal measure for its spectacular beaches and its rampant street crime.

But the real-life drama Saturday of drug gang members taking 35 people hostage in Rio’s Intercontinental Hotel as they tried to escape police has proved scarier to the production crew than the fictional vampires and werewolves they deal with.

After a blazing firefight that killed one person and wounded six others, the gang surrendered. There were 1,550 people in the hotel at the time. About 40 percent were foreigners, though none of them was hurt.”

See more on the AFP.

Twilight Lexicon contacted Summit for an official comment on the story. Here is Summit's statement, “The possibility of filming portions of THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN in Brazil has always been under consideration and we are continuing to scout locations within the country.”

Wow! that's some crazy shiot that happened at a posh hotel, from above sounds like this is an isolated incident, but summit won't put their actors or anyone employed within the twilight franchise at harms way - such a shame Brazil is a beautiful country with beautiful people, why crime ruined it? IMO Brazil would be awesome to film BD in tho'!

From what I have read, they still want to shoot in Brazil, Summit is just looking for other locations other than Rio.

Whoa. Loco south americans! Lol. That sounded like something from a Mafia movie. Must've scared the s*** out of Summit. Anyway, I was just flipping through Breaking Dawn just yesterday and I remember now that Alice and Jasper set off to to go South America. Maybe they want to film some Alice/Jasper scenes when they're searching for a half human/half vampire hybrid. Who knows what they're gonna do. But that does sound interesting. And I thought they're filming in Lousiana for the honeymoon scenes..?

Thanks, Aidenslevel, for passing this along. I had been hearing the Brazil rumors for awhile now. I have no idea what exactly they plan to shoot in Louisiana vs. Vancouver, but I never thought they'd try to make LA an exotic island destination! I hope they don't, I hope they find an exotic locale, but something that doesn't endanger anyone. If I worked for Summit, that story would scare the bejesus out of me and make me rethink that location!

That is scary...Maybe they can shoot in Hawaii, it's beautiful there...and there are alot of other islands they can shoot those scenes from...I'm sure they won't put any of the actors in harms way...
