Year Gap Between Breaking Dawn 1 & 2 Explained ~ HitFix

As usual Hit Fix provides some spot on analysis:

“After releasing both “Twilight” and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” in November of 2008 and 2009, Summit made the seemingly smart move of moving “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” to a June 30, 2010 release date. This was because of both fervent interest from the franchise’s fanbase and the expectation that opening in the summer would allow for a larger gross due to the fact many teenagers would be out of school and able to see the film numerous times during the work week. Instead, “Eclipse” has grossed less than the previous chapter, “New Moon,” with only $288.1 million domestic and a total of $644.8 million worldwide so far. “New Moon” ended up with $296 million domestic and $709 million worldwide and it’s hard to see “Eclipse” matching that total as its grosses have slowed considerably. Considering “Eclipse” received universally better reviews than the previous two chapters and was the most action packed (i.e., male friendly) of the series this has to be something of a disappointment for Summit. Granted, there is no need to shed any tears as the studio and series creator Stephenie Meyer are still swimming in profits as the picture only cost $65 million.”

i agree with you guys...and yeah eclipse was the best movie so far its unbelievable that it didn't make more than new moon....

I think that the new moon made more bc it was so close to twilight, we waited a while for Eclipse and some of us have moved on so to speak.......now with the last 2 so far away our collective interests may wan a bit. Would like to know how summit could possibly be disappointed at over 668 mil, greed was never a good thing......the people who used to frequent this web site including me are not on this site, things change people move grow and get busy, life gets in the fantasy.

3 things:

1. probably its just for the money. Summit it famously cheap and stingy and, of course would make us wait until they conveniently set a date for better grosses. It also means more merchandise, more hipe and of course, more milking the image of the Twifecta, especially Rob. Who knows, maybe it will backfire and the buzz will wan between BD 1&2.

2. I don't want to poison myself with the timetable so I will make believe the delay in the second one is because it needs so many more special effects; Renesmee will be very complex if she is CGI, and all the extra vampire abilities will need more time too. I will also delude myself believing that Summit is really into giving us the best this time around...

3. NM hasn't made more than Eclipse yet. Mojo says that New Moon made $296,623,634 domestic and $413,203,156 foreign = Worldwide: $709,826,790 in 19 weeks. Up till July 30th, Eclipse has made $288,848,358 domestic and $356,700,000 foreign = Worldwide: $645,548,358 in 4.9 weeks. Which means that Eclipse could easily make the 64 million difference in the coming weeks, even surpass New Moon.
