Zac Efron vs. Robert Pattinson: Who’ll Be the Leading Leading Man?

Zac Efron and Robert Pattinson need no introduction. They have become household-names and their popularity ratings are through the roof, and not with just the teen scene. So the question is, who will be the leading man?

Efron Wins! “If he plays his cards right, he could easily be the next Leonardo DiCaprio,” says tween-marketing specialist Ashley Dos Santos.

In addition to possessing the ability to inspire killer soundbites (like the one above), Efron can memorably model swim trunks, honorably acquit himself in an art-house movie (Me and Orson Welles), and credibly, and non-sleezily, talk strip clubs with Jimmy Kimmel. In other words, the 22-year-old is a credit to his own peer group.

“When you look at him in interviews, he has a certain approachability,” Dos Santos says. “I think if he can prove his acting chops, Efron will definitely gain acceptance among twentysomethings.”

One advantage he’s got over Pattinson? The High School Musical grad has moved off the covers of the OMG!-ing Bops of the world, per Dos Santos, while Pattinson remains in their grip, thanks to the not-yet-done Twilight franchise.

Pattinson Wins! OK, so maybe some of Team Edward’s audience is still on the young side. But at least it was never on the Wildcat-crazed tween side.

“Zac has the same ‘problem’ as Miley Cyrusin aging up the audience,” youth-marketing consultant Allison Ellis said in an email. “[Pattinson] never had this issue because audiences never met him until Twilight.”

And while Remember Me didn’t break any box-office (or critical) records, Pattinson’s world-famous mug helped the romantic weepie ultimately gross more than triple its budget. (In a crowded weekend at the multiplex, the jury’s out on whether Charlie St. Cloud will top Remember Me‘s own modest domestic opening weekend.) In any case, Pattinson is money—or at least money enough to land Reese Witherspoon for his new leading lady.

Also, his new haircut(for the Witherspoon movie, Water for Elephants)? Not a bad answer to Efron’s torso.

I really think ppl under estimate him because his acting abilities thus far have not truly been pushed to its promise.. but come on Remember Me give us a taste of what Rob has to offer, plus he is MULTI TALENTED just like Zac Efron.. but in a more raw & dirty (sexy) way. While Zac Efron is dreamy.. from me thats were it ends. Rob Pattinson is the whole package..

I know Robert has a mixed age fan base because of twilight but Robert is an amazing actor he really is and i would go watch any film with Rob as the leading man over Zac anyday .Robert is a beautiful actor i am totally obessed with him and i have watched all his films he did before twilight and he is amazing he puts eveything he as into his roles and i truley believe he will be in the hollywood scene for years and years to come because he is brillant and a true credit to his art. And Remember me took my breath away and makes me cry everytime i watch it beacuse of his performace as Tyler, and like lovedrunk4RPattz said its just a taste of how amazing he is. When i see Robert i am just griped by him, Rob can act all types of roles he fits in with any time era like Bel-ami and Water for elepants and also to date like twilight and remember me.He is simply breath taking in every sense of the word!! at everthing he does and he is beautiful and i personally think he will be around for a very very very very long time as he is very level headed and does not let fame get to his head! And every choice he makes about is career is the right one, so hands down no questions asked Robert Pattinson is the leading man and always will be!! Love you Robert forever and always!! xxxxxxxxxx

Because Zac Efron is known for High School Musical and that is really the main thing. And that was only a disney movie until the 3rd one came out in theaters. but Rob, he was in Harry Potter which most people know. He was in Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. those 3 were in theaters and, broke records. a lot of records. i am sorry but this one has to go to Rob. sorry Zac. Rob beats you by a landslide.

Comment by enn on August 1, 2010 at 9:15am: I watched a little of hairspray and HSM in TV, but it wasn’t my taste so I switched over. looking at the synopsis of his films, he does seem to play the same or similar kind of character and he is working on now, a Nicholas Sparks adaptation (which is a boring stories...I really dont like the cliche of all Nicholas Sparks books/movies).
He have taken a chance with Me and Orson Welles, but I think the character isn’t really any different from what he has played before.

Rob’s work so far shows a lot of range and each role is always something different , from Daniel Gale, Art, Dali, Tyler, Edward, Duroy and Roboswki. He pushes himself by not playing safe, not playing the same character over and over again.

Maybe...maybe Zefron will get more much money and always get number at Box Office ( and we should compare zefron with Taylor Lautner cos they're both almost in similiar path doing "commercial" movies) BUT Rob paths in going to be some awards (Oscar maybe....I hope)

Zac's a "cute kid" and probably an OK actor, but Rob has that something special, the magnetism that only comes along very rarely. Also, IMHO, I'm getting tired of "leading men" who are short, think Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, even Johnny Depp who I love. Rob is 6'2" and I love that.
